Justin and Stew discuss the final installment of the Jurassic Park/World franchise. This film sees the return of Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ellie Sattler and Dr. Ian Malcolm (Sam Neil, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum respectively) attempting to save the world from... giant locusts? Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard also return to save Maisie Lockwood who has been kidnapped! Also there's some dinosaurs in this movie.

This week we’re talking about Greta Gerwig’s 2019 remake of the beloved classic Little Women. We discuss the realistic and endearing portrayal of family bonds, the unrealistic portrayal of Florence Pugh as a 13-year-old, and ask the most important question: what’s the deal with Hannah?
Also, why we hate applying for a passport. (Recorded May 13th, 2023.)
Another roundup of recent releases and older discoveries, including AIR, LOVE AGAIN, SISU, HOW TO BLOW UP A PIPELINE, EVIL DEAD RISE and SMOKING CAUSES COUGHING.
Catching you up on the latest in Blu-rays, Erik Childress and Peter Sobczynski look at offerings from John Woo, David Lynch, Bob Hope, Laurence Olivier and Dario Argento. That is just for starters. Peter gets to weigh in on some of his least favorite films from 2022 and one that pleasantly surprised him in 2023. They look back on a new edition from softcore master, Zalman King, as well as a barrage of new 4K releases that include a real gem from horror maestro, Wes Craven, working a bit outside his genre. But they most importantly include one of the great, still underappreciated, works from Walter Hill and a release over 20 years in the making that would have absolutely delighted our good friend, Sergio Mims.

Wherein Justice and Andy create a new conversation around the ideas of recycled and fresh intellectual property. We take a look at the (hopefully) final Jurassic World film and the Apple TV series See in an effort to demonstrate that there are still fresh ideas out there. Why are the legacy characters present in Dominion other than to enrich the production company? Meanwhile, in See, we are being introduced to new archetypes of characters in each season. From the cramped velociraptor chase scene in Malta to the wide vistas of northwest Pennslyvania, this episode seeks to suggest that a new way of exploring things can be more substantive than returning again and again to the same tired world.
"We're animals, Amy. And some animals like to party. For me, God is a beer on the beach. Maybe that's fucked up, but at least it's honest." - Levi, Enlightened
"Inside my empty bottle I was constructing a lighthouse while all others were making ships." - Charles Simic
"Today wasn't anything spectacular and that's what I loved about it." Me, January 2, 2023

The first Blu-ray show of 2023 with Erik Childress and Peter Sobczynski brings about a variety of age-old classics to films fresh out of theaters. In-between there are films with early work from Joan Crawford, Matt Damon, Brendan Fraser, Diane Lane and Laura Dern. TV episodes are turned into movies, the bullied let their tormentors be setup for murder and Sonny Chiba is an executioner. Brandi Carlile gets an assist in bringing Tanya Tucker back to the mainstream and then there is a trio of exemplary 4K releases including one from Criterion and Terry Gilliam, a modern classic from Bill Murray and Harold Ramis and an upgrade for one of the best science-fiction films from the 1950s.

Some movies don't work. They feel both ill-conceived and ill-executed. After a great start to the franchise and then even a promising opening of this particular trilogy within it, watching the (currently) final film, "Jurassic World: Dominion," feels like a chore. Ascribing motivation is tough, but we have plenty of thoughts about what went on here.
