My Visual Impairment Led to Low Self-Esteem, Which Led to Substance Use | Charlie Collins

My Visual Impairment Led to Low Self-Esteem, Which Led to Substance Use | Charlie Collins
Charlie's self-esteem began to unravel when he was diagnosed with a rare eye disorder in third grade. He would never fly in a jet fighter as he had imagined. He'd never race a car and see the checkered flag wave. He couldn't go to college because he wasn't smart enough. At least, that's what his teachers said. Only an unusually cruel God would destroy a little boy's dreams by making him defective. It was the only plausible explanation, and it was a crushing blow. Why should he care about himself if God doesn't care about him? And so Charlie's descent into a world of negative self-talk and, eventually, addiction began. A self-destructive spiral that would see him avoid death twice as he marched to the brink of suicide.

    "A Different Perspective"

    "A Different Perspective"

F2F Academy student, Clair, talks to School Administrator, Darius, and teacher, Bryan, about her experience as a visually impaired student. She discusses some of the obstacles she's had to face, the importance of maintaining a positive attitude, and much more!

The Blind Blogger - Maxwell Ivey

The Blind Blogger - Maxwell Ivey

Maxwell tells us about his experience of growing up in the carnival and how he has dealt with his blindness.

    *****
Max is a blind gentleman who grew up in a family of carnival owners. All he ever wanted to do was to continue in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps and be part of the family business.

As you can tell by reading this, that isn’t where he ended up. He did help in the business over the years, but couldn’t sustain it after the early death of his father. He then turned to help people sell their amusement equipment.

He started blogging to promote that site and met a lot of wonderful people in the blogosphere. They told him that he had an amazing story and many commented on how he inspired them. They finally convinced him that he had a bigger purpose in store for himself.

He started this second blog, and in it, he shares more of his personal journey, struggles, and triumphs.  His Interviews and Articles page lists these places.

He does his best to help others and does so mostly by encouraging them to take steps towards their ultimate goal or to continue on the path they have started.

He is now offering coaching to help people who are stuck and frustrated with not being able to find their passion or follow their dreams once they have determined what they want in their lives.

    interview with fiona demark

Fiona Demark is an inspirational speaker and resilience coach who moves participants from not achieving the results they are capable of, to inspiring positive change in both their professional and personal lives. She provides practical strategies that make a lifelong impact upon participants.

Over the past 25 years, she has had the pleasure of assisting people to gain focus and step into their own power. Her real world examples of overcoming adversity and building resilience place her in perfect stead to share tools with others to build personal resources and inspiration to reach goals.

What makes Fiona unique and stand out from every other executive trainer and keynote speaker: she is legally blind. Having a disability since birth has taught her that life can be a challenge, but ‘when life gives you lemons, make lemonade’. By meeting challenges head on and constantly stepping outside her comfort zone, she has built resilience and learned how to keep moving forward through adversity.

There's a spiritual side to Fiona's work as well, in that she offers holistic counseling and reiki. She tackles energy blockages that can hold people back from enjoying everyday life. Her goal is to uncover limitations and work on issues from a multi-directional approach.
