    12. Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker

    12. Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker

In today's episode, the Duel of the Ranks crew break down Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. While some uphold it as the best movie ever created for Star Wars lore, others believe it should never have been made as the story is rushed, the characters lack purpose, and the movie as a whole just feels unnecessary. Listen in as we break down the final film in the Skywalker saga!

    11. Episode VIII: The Last Jedi

    11. Episode VIII: The Last Jedi

It’s here; one of the hottest takes of all. We’re ranking the most polarizing film of the saga: The Last Jedi. Is it best viewed as a stand alone movie, or is it a sequel that could’ve started something great? More importantly, will Brody and Amanda remain friends? Tune in as we evaluate the Holdo maneuver, puppet Yoda, and Rian Johnson lighting Star Wars on fire!

    7. Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

    7. Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

In today's episode, we’re ranking perhaps the most epic of them all: Revenge of the Sith. It’s safe to say the DotR gang loves this prequel. Though for Charley, it’s more of a love-hate relationship. Don’t worry, he will answer for that! We get into Padme’s pregnancy timeline, Palpatine’s lightsaber, Mace Windu’s terrible attitude, and share a few solid rewrites of our own. Buckle up, and make sure you have the high ground.

    8. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

    8. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

In today’s episode we discuss the film that squeezed its way to the top of our cumulative ranks: Rogue One. How the heck did this one score the number one slot? Was it the fact that it’s a war film? Was it Darth Vader’s slaughter in the corridor? Or was it brand new characters self-sacrificing for the greater cause? We’ll get into all of it with Charley and Amanda’s absolute praise for the film and Brody’s grievances with the characters. “Bor Gullet!”

    6. Episode II: Attack of the Clones

    6. Episode II: Attack of the Clones

Attack of the ranks! We’re back and discussing the most romantic, lightsaber-packed episode in all of the saga: Attack of the Clones. Surprisingly, we all talked-up this film, having many fond memories while watching it. We even bumped up our scores during the conversation! Is Jango Fett the best character? Should his ship now be called Firespray instead of Slave I? Is Padme’s ship the coolest looking one in the galaxy? Tune in to this week’s fun episode obsessing over lore.

    4. Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi

    4. Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi

On today’s episode of Duel of the Ranks, we conclude the original trilogy with our analysis of Return of the Jedi. It’s Charley’s favorite film of the saga, and Brody’s favorite of the original trilogy. With all of the warm and fuzzy feelings at the end, what’s not to love? Though, isn’t it just frosting on the cake of the previous two films? Are Ewoks really ideal warriors? Was Boba Fett overrated? Tune in to our opinions on the metal bikini episode!

    3. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

    3. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

The DotR team strikes back! It’s a big day; we’re ranking what is arguably the best Star Wars film...ever: The Empire Strikes Back. Why do many love this film? If you don’t, have no fear, Brody doesn't seem to like it as much either. Or does he? In today’s episode, we all gang up on Brody and his heretical claims against Irvin Kirshner’s work of art. It’s the first time we see force-levitation, force ghosts, the Emperor, Tantauns, and much more. Love it or hate it, it’s a beautiful bridge between A New Hope and Return of the Jedi.

    2. Episode IV: A New Hope

    2. Episode IV: A New Hope

On today’s episode of Duel of the Ranks, we discuss the one that started it all: A New Hope. Imagine seeing for the first time the words “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away….” and then a big, loud, gold crawl to catch you up with a never before seen galactic civil war. How do you honestly rank this episode and pay it the respect it deserves? We’ll evaluate this film and all Star Wars media content with these five categories in mind: Story, Characters, Cinematography, Music, and Immersive Universe.

    1. I've Got a Good Feeling About This

    1. I've Got a Good Feeling About This

We’re launching our first episode, and boy is it a doozy. The Duel of the Ranks (DotR) gang consists of Brody, Amanda, Charley, and Christian; all with an interesting perspective on the classic space opera we all so dearly love (and sometimes hate).

We have Brody, our fearless squadron leader if you will, who ranks The Force Awakens as the best episode and Solo: A Star Wars Story as the worst.  Not an easy position to defend, but he does it courageously. Next up, Amanda who is a rebel spitfire ready to tear down any common notions we hold firmly in this galaxy. She ranks The Last Jedi at the top with Solo also at the bottom (we’ll get to the bottom of this eventually). And then we have Charlie, more of a wise sage reminiscing of a simpler (pre-prequel) age, before the dark times. He ranks Return of the Jedi as the best episode with Revenge of the Sith as the worst. And finally Christian, a keeper of the peace (sometimes) who ranks Empire Strikes Back at the top and The Rise of Skywalker at the bottom.

What do they think of the other films in between? Will their opinions change? Who lays the best cases for their picks? Stay tuned while we hit just the tip of the iceberg in our launch episode!

Ep 18: May the Spires Bleep You

Ep 18: May the Spires Bleep You

    Bright Suns, nerds!

Hosts Alyce and Laura have to correct* literally everything they said in Episode 17, but then it’s onward and up the Spire to what’s in the news and what we’re reading! First up, some final thoughts on the D23 coverage of The Rise of Skywalker, what Coca-cola and sporks have in common, and what we learned from Entertainment Weekly’s coverage of The Mandalorian.

Galaxy's Edge: A Crash of Fate is making Alyce feel a little squirmy, but that might be because she’s old balls now. Honestly, it’s probably time that we tell her stop driving at night and put her in a home.

Anyway, no spoiler warnings this week for A Crash of Fate or Galaxy’s Edge: Black Spire. Given that neither of us had finished Black Spire at the time of recording, we won’t ruin anything for you. But if you haven’t read it, you should. And if you’re going to go to Galaxy’s Edge, you REALLY should read this book first.

Finally, this week’s listener question is brought to us by our friend Timothy (@toastedzen): How did Obi-Wan’s relationship with Anakin affect whether Obi-Wan believes Anakin/Vader is redeemable or not? This served as a sort of jumping off point that led to a What-If discussion about the notorious master and padawan.

Josh Hartnett? Shaun White? Are you listening? Alyce is desperate.
