You in Five Years Week 1 - PDF
If you closed your eyes and imagined yourself in five years, what would you see? Well, if we are given the gift of living five more years, the decisions we're making today are making the people we are becoming in 5 years. Like the interest in our accounts, our choices compound, too. In this message, Scott Savage kicks off our first series of 2024 - You in Five Years. He explores who we're becoming and how the gospel allows us to change in a world where people don't normally change.

Countdown To Christmas: Are You Spiritually Awake? (Luke 12)

Countdown To Christmas: Are You Spiritually Awake? (Luke 12)

Every day leading up to Christmas we will be reading, studying, and reflecting on a chapter of the Gospel of Luke. There are twenty-four days leading up to Christmas and twenty-four Chapters in Luke. We are going to enter the celebration of the birth of Jesus with a full context of his life and ministry. My hope and prayer for each of us is that we fully experience a closeness to Jesus like never before.

Luke 12 continues what we have seen in the past two chapters at least more intently is Jesus teaching about discipleship and also we will see in this chapter and the next few are the opposition to that discipleship and to Jesus. Jesus offers warnings and encouragements in Luke 12. There is a core teaching of greed and anxiety and the root of both of those is materialism. The last teaching is incredibly vital as well…are you spiritually awake?

Countdown To Christmas: Jesus Was Uncompromising (Luke 11)

Countdown To Christmas: Jesus Was Uncompromising (Luke 11)

Every day leading up to Christmas we will be reading, studying, and reflecting on a chapter of the Gospel of Luke. There are twenty-four days leading up to Christmas and twenty-four Chapters in Luke. We are going to enter the celebration of the birth of Jesus with a full context of his life and ministry. My hope and prayer for each of us is that we fully experience a closeness to Jesus like never before.

Prayer never has been and never will be a formula for how to get rich, famous, and powerful and have all of your wildest dreams come true! Luke 11 covers Jesus teaching the disciples how to pray (the Lord’s Prayer) It also documents Jesus telling people what they don’t want to hear. In our generation and our culture, we're not used to hearing some of the things Jesus said. We have a stereotypical image of Jesus as a "nice guy" who spoke of peace, love, and understanding. But today's passage challenges those assumptions.

Countdown To Christmas: When You Don't Feel Close To God (Luke 10)

Countdown To Christmas: When You Don't Feel Close To God (Luke 10)

Every day leading up to Christmas we will be reading, studying, and reflecting on a chapter of the Gospel of Luke. There are twenty-four days leading up to Christmas and twenty-four Chapters in Luke. We are going to enter the celebration of the birth of Jesus with a full context of his life and ministry. My hope and prayer for each of us is that we fully experience a closeness to Jesus like never before.

Luke 10 covers two massive topics.

    1. Jesus sends out missionaries to towns he would be traveling to and it shows them and us how to engage in culture in terms of doing mission work.

    2. The popular story of Mary and Martha. It addresses not only if salvation is something we can earn but how we can assess where we are in our relationship with Jesus today. If you feel like you are doing a lot of work for God but don’t feel close to Him, you are not going to want to miss today’s episode.

Countdown To Christmas: Tenacious Faith (Luke 3)

My hope and prayer for each of us is that we fully experience a closeness to Jesus like never before.

A majority of Luke 3 is dedicated to arguably one of the most compelling characters in the Gospels perhaps one of the most confusing too, John The Baptist. Who was he? What was his purpose? We look at that as well as looking at one of the most famous Bible "contradictions" that critics use to show the flaws of the Bible: the biological genealogy of Jesus.

Luke 2 is perhaps the most read and most famous chapter in the Bible, there’s a lot here that we get into but for me, one of the biggest areas of focus is the kingdom that exists on earth and the kingdom Jesus came to establish.

Giving Thanks When You Don't Want To

Giving Thanks When You Don't Want To

It is all but guaranteed that someone at some point is not going to be happy with you. Someone will talk about you behind your back saying things that are untrue or unfair. I’m sure those memories are flooding back to you now or maybe you’re in the middle of that.

What do you do in those circumstances? What do you do when life is not fair? What do you turn to? Who do you turn to vent to?

There’s a model for this in today’s verses. David in the Bible experiences injustice and unfairness and we’ll see what he does with that.

What's With The Foot Washing? (Part 3)

What's With The Foot Washing? (Part 3)

We wrap up our study in John 13. It’s not something that has been a deep study but there is enough here that will be split into three episodes. I encourage you if you haven’t to go back and listen to the first two parts to do that. We are diving into a passage in the book of John that documents Jesus washing the feet of the disciples at The Last Supper. We will read the same passage in these next few episodes but we will have a different reflection in each one. Today we are looking at really the whole point and significance as a whole of what Jesus expects of us. The serious business of forgiveness and servanthood.

    Does God Change His Mind?

    Does God Change His Mind?

Today’s verses are the response to a question from a friend of mine. She sent me a text that said this,

     “Biblical question for you”

     I said, “Go for it.”

She asks, “In Exodus 32, God declares he is going to murder all the Israelites down the mountain that are worshipping idols. Moses then pleaded with him & reminded him about his promises with Abraham, Issac and Jacob. Had God forgotten those promises? What made God change his mind?”

“Give me time to study it?” I replied.

“Absolutely.” She replied, “Enjoy the challenge.”

    Let’s dive in.

    Tired of Feeling Guilty?

    Tired of Feeling Guilty?

Do you ever get tired of sinning? Like you try your best but you get caught in this vulnerability and fall back in the trap of chasing your own happiness at whatever the cost right there at that moment. You may even recognize that you are wrong but you beat yourself up for continuing in your sin. You are weary and HATE yourself for it. Sometimes I get mad that I even HAVE to ask for forgiveness in the first place. I think you’ll find some encouragement in today’s verses.

    Did God Demand A Sacrifice?

    Did God Demand A Sacrifice?

Have you ever heard the phrase "God didn't demand a sacrifice, we did!" It’s a core tenant of the progressive Christian church. It’s in books, blogs, and podcasts all over the place. If you haven’t heard it yet, I’m sure you will. I wanted to study this further because it could be a nice heartwarming statement right? But there was something in me that felt like it didn’t pass the sniff test. The problem is that it's terribly unbiblical and would have been rejected by Jesus and all the apostles. It’s a concept that attempts to undermine the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus.

If you would like to dive deeper into this, or other verses in the Bible, if you have a verse you would like to submit to have included in a future episode if have questions about the Bible that you would like answered in a bonus episode, or simply want to connect with me... text VERSED to 88474 or click here
