Ep. 005 [Part 2of2]: PHILIPPINE CINEMA DURING MARTIAL LAW, conversation with Prof. Skilty Labastilla
September 21, 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law in the Philippines. But while this dark period in our history was characterized by massive and systemic oppression, it was also during this time that some of the greatest filipino films - made by some of the best local filmmakers - were born, and made a niche in international film festivals.
Screen Cap hosts Cenon Obispo Palomares & Avie Felix, and guest film scholar, Prof. Skily Labastilla, look back at the films made during the 1970's and early 1980s, why 1976 is considered the second golden age of Philippine Cinema, and the political undertones of many of those films.
