Sarcasm derives from Greek words meaning “tearing of the flesh.”
Know your audience. Sarcasm can be funny when joking around amongst friends and family. But sarcasm, and consistent sarcasm at that, can be detrimental to a child’s 5 Spheres.
In this episode we talk about athletic coaches and teachers who use sarcasm or talk down to children consistently.
Sarcasm, especially to a child, is not constructive and comes across as belittling and humiliating. Some children do not understand sarcastic comments and what the goal of the comment is.
How is your child being impacted by a sarcastic adult in their life? What is the long term affect of being talked down to? This type of behavior affects each child’s sphere differently.
Research indicates pros and cons for constant sarcasm in a child’s life. We recommend using The 5 Spheres strategy to determine if this individual has a negative impact on your child.
