We dive in with the cast of Happy Birthday McKenna to find out the backstage happenings, the onstage process, auditioning, rehearsing, how Covid changed everything and what happens when the power goes completely out on show night. Ep. 11 – The Patricia Reser Center for the Arts

    Meet Chris Ayzoukian, Executive Director

The arts were always in the family that Chris Ayzoukian grew up in, so it was almost a given that he’d get hooked early. He pursued an education as a pianist and composer, but a backstage visit to the L.A. Philharmonic tuned him in to a whole new path in the arts. Today, Chris is the Executive Director of The Patricia Reser Center for the Arts, and he’s sharing his story and what’s happening this season at The Reser…

The Winter's Tale - Shakespeare Presented As Intended: Randy Lopez, CEO of Ophelia's Jump, discusses OJP's current Midsummer's Shakespeare Festival offering.

Randy Lopez, CEO of Ophelia's Jump, Executive Director of the Claremont Chamber of Commerce and one of the  most recognized folks in Claremont took a few moments to discuss OJP's new Shakespeare Summer Festival offering.  The show opens July 14, 2022  at the Sontag Theater in the heart of Claremont's Pomona College's stunning campus, and runs through July 24, 2022.

Randy previews the Ophelia's Jump production of Shakespeare's "A Winter's Tale," and how it is being presented just as The Bard intended - outside, in an amphitheater, accessible to people to enjoy up close and involved.  He relates a bit about the history of the show, the first-rate actors and direction, amazing set design and the Green Show that comes before the main production (a tradition established in Elizabethan times).  His key point is to simply enjoy the show, be so close you almost feel a part of it, and experience live theater on a level that is found almost nowhere else.

Beatriz Casagran - Founder, Artistic Director, and the real point person to contact at Ophelia's Jump - and Randy welcome and encourage everyone that has enjoyed the show in the past and those who are looking for a new experience to come out and enjoy a unique and memorable evening...and support local live theater in the bargain.   And - as always - if you happen to speak to Randy, Beatriz or anyone from OJP, please tell them how much you liked his interview on Claremont Speaks.

Don't be fooled by the title. We're still talking about Shakespeare. This time Hannah and Clare talk about the elements of tragedy and comedy, why the Lancasters had to look good in the histories, and what kind of play The Tempest is anyway.

Episode 76 - Should You Quit Improv? (Everything's Made Up)

    Hey friends,

Our good friends Drew and Matty invited us out for a quadruple date as part of Arcade Comedy Theater's first "Date Night", and as our one of our rare post-pandemic shows it got us thinking about our improv "careers". Our favorite jokes, local comedians that we're particularly fond of, and what getting into improv has done for our lives (it's not a cult, we promise)

Making Puppets out of a Pandemic with Sandra Krueger

Making Puppets out of a Pandemic with Sandra Krueger

Sandra is the Director of Drama for the College of the Albemarle in North Carolina. But that’s not what she was doing in March 2020 when the world fell apart.

Back then, Sandra was the Associate Director for Music off Main, a studio that specialized in early childhood music education. But when Covid shut down the ability to safely sing in-person, the studio space they rented was no longer a financially viable option. Suddenly Sandra’s work in music education, and her personal career in opera, were ripped away.

In the fall she took on a new role as Director of Drama for a community college in rural North Carolina. Within days she faced a dilemma: How do you safely put on a theatrical production in the middle of a pandemic that even shut down Broadway?

    Her answer?

    Puppets.

You are in for a real treat this episode. Sandra’s story is completely bonkers, as is the way our paths intersected.
