Cllr Krupa Sheth: Transforming the London Borough of Brent

In the latest episode of the Urban Forecast podcast, Krupa Sheth, the youngest councillor ever elected in Brent, takes us on a compelling journey from her unexpected entry into politics whilst still at University, to the transformation of the Borough of Brent during her time in Local Government. Reflecting on the constant concerns of the Brent community, including clean environments, education, and housing, Krupa discusses her instrumental part in crafting Brent's climate emergency policies and the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. She explores the delicate balance between urban development and community engagement, emphasizing the importance of transparent dialogue with developers, and with residents. The conversation concludes with insights into the impact of budget cuts on local services and the critical need for national support in investing in local councils. Join us for a thought-provoking episode, where Krupa Sheth's experiences highlights the complex interplay of local governance, urban development, and climate action in shaping the urban forecast.

Cost of Living Crisis Solutions: Road Work Budgets!

Cost of Living Crisis Solutions: Road Work Budgets!

In a local city near me the council is spending £2.9 Million to pedestrianise a couple of roads near the city centre. Is it me or does that seem ludicrous in the middle of a cost of living crisis?

In this episode I talk about how this shouldn't be happening and how the money can be used instead.

Licensing & Government Compliance Part 3 - Mayor Darcy Byrne from Inner West Council

Licensing & Government Compliance Part 3 - Mayor Darcy Byrne from Inner West Council

Part 3 and the final episode of the Brewery Licensing & Government Compliance segment.

In this episode I managed to line up a chat with Mayor Darcy Bryne from the Inner West Council. Darcy, a craft beer enthusiast, has been a big advocate for the craft beer scene that has sprung up in Sydney’s Inner West for the past 10 years. He and other contributors have played a very big role in lobbying for better regulations across all levels of government to try making it easier for new breweries to open and operate. He also helped launch the Inner West Brewers Association that includes original members such as Wayward Brewing, Grifter, Young Henrys, Willie The Boatman and more.

In our chat, I talk with Darcy about how he came to have a passion for the craft beer industry, dealing with local councils, the challenges still facing breweries opening up in regards to untangling red tape and what efforts have been made previously and currently for improving conditions for the craft beer industry.

Licensing & Government Compliance Part 1 - Ben Tesoriero from CPS Planning

Licensing & Government Compliance Part 1 - Ben Tesoriero from CPS Planning

We now have a look at a very important and often very confusing topic when it comes to opening and running a brewery and that is Brewery Licensing & Government Compliance.

Part 1 of our 3 episode segment is a sit down with Ben Teseorieo from CPS Planning. I was put onto Ben from Glenn Wignall from the Grifter who highly recommended Ben and his firm of experienced Towners Planners services.

They have a wealth of experience when it comes to assisting brewery owners with site selection, development applications and navigating the often-confusing steps in the planning and approval process of opening a brewery.

This is a must listen for any aspiring brewery owner wanting to learn how the planning and approval process works with local government.

Recreation Officer? Get in my life.

Recreation Officer? Get in my life.
Chances are there is someone at your local council who spends time creating programs and spaces to help you stay active and be healthier. So how do they do that? In Axel’s case, he’s a Recreation Officer and he deals with... well, best let him explain. But put simply, he reckon most of his job is about helping people from his community find fun ways to be as healthy as they can be.
