In this episode, Marcus introduces longtime friend and newly hired UF Assistant Professor of Wildlife Ecology and Management Dr. Carolina Baruzzi. Bak

    Bak
Bak Zoumanigui Born in Senegal, West Africa and raised near Paris, France, my family moved to Austin, Texas when I was 16. It was not an easy transition. School was tough and I struggled to fit and make friends. I spoke differently, dressed differently, and was stuck spending most of my time studying so I would not get behind my studies. Even though I had my family, I wanted to belong and experience the great things Austin had to offer.

I had a passion for dancing. Where do you go to dance when you are 18? Bars and dance clubs, of course. So I started going out and the people I’d meet there became my friends. They were DJs, bartenders, performers, musicians, bar managers, and other party goers.

Over the years, I became fascinated with the Austin nightlife. I used to stay late and help the DJ pack while we chat about music. I used to sit at an empty bar to listen to a bartender’s story.

There is more to nightlife and going out than just events; nightlife is also about an experience and we all have different experiences. The FeedBak is here to capture those experiences.

    • Featured band (22:28) (Insights)

    Synopsis:

This week Todd is holding down the fort to bring you all those Brewtal goods while Arie is out of town on a film gig! Todd has some exciting plans for the weekend while also making even more exciting plans for later in ht eyear. These plans, and his beer, have him redlining his RPMs with the fantastic IPA he was gifted from out of town friends. Pushing the Brewtal engine even harder are metal headlines such as Shadows Fall reuniting for a reunion show later this year, Between the Buried and Me expanding on the Colors universe with the announcment of Colors II, and one of our new favorite bands, and Brewtal alumni, Snake Father dropping their FILTHY debut album 'Pathways To Corruption.' Just when you thought you could let off the gas a little bit, Todd brings you some Insights into a new metalcore outfit that has that big Texas attitude, with just a hint of Self Doubt. Nothing that a nice, cold craft beer can't fix though!

    Featured Band:

This week's episode features Self Doubt from Insights.

    Bio:

Insights is a new metalcore band from Austin, Texas. The band is described as having earth-shattering vocals, monstrous breakdowns and melodic riffs while encompassing that big Texas attitude. Insights is full of power, from striking the perfect balance of songs that make you bang your head to beautifully crafted melodic and heavy riffs and captivating vocals.

    What Insights Are Drinking:

As far as beer goes, we drink Coors Light or Lonestar. Nothing really crafty but we will drink an Electric Jellyfish IPA every once in awhile!

    Episode 9 Breakdown:

    Synopsis:

Your boys are goin' roundhouse kick across the globe for Episode 9! We're talking Denver, Texas, Quebec and Malta? You're damn right. Some surprise beers lead the way to some somber, controversial news. But we blast beat the rhythm back into gear to provide a collection of tunes perfect for bleeding your eardrums dry. Last but not least, the featured band is bringing the heat to warm your cold soul. Turn it up, burn it down!

    Featured Band:

This week's episode features Burn It Down from Haine.

Haine started off in late 2017 by Claudio (bass,) and the then original guitarist, who recruited Chris (vocals) and Konrad (drums). All members have quite a longstanding role in the Maltese local metal scene with other acts such as Abysmal Torment, ClubMurder, Repugnance and Fallen Icon and it was time for a Maltese band to venture into deathcore territory, which was quite lacking at that point. The “project” soon cemented itself as an up and coming band in the local metal scene and after the first the band had a line up-change in mid-2019 with James and Jack joining as permanent guitarists. The band immediately started working on the first debut self-titled EP, which has been recently released in January 2021. The aim of the band has always been to forgo all perceived notions and pre-existing scene stereotypes to create their own brand of extreme music and most importantly, to play some crushing breakdowns! Haine’s music is a reflection of such a great opportunity to take on diverse musical influences and merge them into a new sound. This has resulted in deeply layered sound combining heavy grooves and innovative breakdowns punctuated by melodic overtones. Despite Haine having deep-roots within the Deathcore approach to music writing, the aim has always been to come up with a new and fresh take on an ever-evolving style of music.

    What Haine is drinking:

Malta is the proud brew house for the Cisk Lager”. Golden in colour, it is a bottom-fermented lager, with an alcohol content of 4.2%, with a bold and refreshing taste on the palate. It is well balanced, not too bitter but not dilute and can hold its own against many of the more well-known global brands. This is the pride and joy of all Maltese beer-lovers. The company recently delved into brewing craft beers also, such as the Blue Label Amber Ale, Double Red Strong Ale and unfortunately the discontinued Farsons India Pale Ale (IPA). As a band, we of course local Cisk Lager either during rehearsals, recording, live gigs, everywhere really. Claudio is the craft beer connoisseur and just loves his hoppy-beers such as The Crew (Hop Junkie), Wayward IPA, Black IPA Thawack and Hobgoblin IPA among an infinite array of other hoppy beers!

Beers fueling this week's episode include Lone Star Beer (Todd's pick) and Unibroue's A Tout Le Monde (Arie's pick.)

    • Lone Star is a crisp, American-style lager. The National Beer of Texas comes in at 4.5% ABV. Lone Star Beer is located in Fort Worth, TX.
    • A Tout Le Monde is a dry-hopped saison ale brewed at the request of Megadeth's Dave Mustain coming in at 4.5% ABV. The lowest of any Unibroue beers to date! Unibroue is located in Chambly, Quebec, Canada.

The storied history of Lonestar includes the incredible crossover hits “Amazed” and “Smile” from the late 19-90s and early 2000s.  Since lead singer Richie McDonald returned to the group in 20-11, they’ve certainly had a lot to smile about.  The foursome released “Life As We Know It” about a year ago, and they’ve just done a music video for the single “Just The Rain” off that album.  We were able to go behind-the-scenes with the group to check out the concept for this new release.
