A Good Neighbor - The Gospels

A Good Neighbor - The Gospels

Join Julia Jeffress Sadler as she takes us on an incredible adventure in Episode 171. When asked how to gain eternal life, Jesus reminded a man of the law's command to love God and one's neighbor. To clarify who one's neighbor is, Jesus shared a story of a man left injured by robbers. While a priest and a Levite ignored him, a Samaritan helped, showing true neighborly kindness. Jesus told the man to act like the Samaritan, teaching that being a neighbor means showing love and compassion to anyone in need.

How to Love a Friend (And Yourself)

How to Love a Friend (And Yourself)

Have you ever been dragged into something reluctantly, only to come out completely blown away?

Well, that's exactly what happened to me (Annette) when Jared convinced me to attend this mysterious “retreat” up in Canada, which he attended last year. I was skeptical, to say the least, but let me tell you, it was a game-changer!

In our latest episode, we spill the beans (well, sort of!) on this life-altering experience and unpack the importance of self-discovery. We reflect on how the retreat forced us to give ourselves the time we deserve and understand our deepest desires and values.

We also dive into what it really means to love your neighbor as yourself and the nuances of genuine compassion and empathy, sharing some eye-opening realizations along the way.

Do you ever think about what it's like to be on the receiving end of your own kindness?

Join us as we navigate the twists and turns of self-reflection, friendship, and trust, and uncover the profound meaning behind those simple but impactful words from Mark 12:31.

Reviving Christian Heroes: Molly Wilmington's Dietrich Bonhoeffer Book for Children

Reviving Christian Heroes: Molly Wilmington's Dietrich Bonhoeffer Book for Children

In this episode, Patricia interviews children's book author Molly Wilmington about her new book, "Dietrich Bonhoeffer - the Teacher who Became a Spy." The book tells the inspiring true story of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a spy whose life reflected the two greatest commandments: love God and love your neighbor. With sacrifice and courage, Bonhoeffer exemplified the love of Jesus, the good shepherd, by helping Jews during WWII.

It's a story of courage in the face of opposition and courage to stand for our Christian beliefs - a message much needed for our children today.

    Living in His Freedom

    Living in His Freedom

    John 8:31-36

31To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." 33They answered him, "We are Abraham's descendants[b] and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?" 34Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

    Galatians 5:13-26

13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other so that you are not to do whatever[c] you want.18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery;20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law.24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.26 Let us not become conceited, provoking, and envying each other.

How to Love Through Conflict with Others by Inviting God and Sitting Together with Becky Keife

How different would your next family gathering, work day, or neighborhood picnic be if everyone chose to celebrate or weep with each other before trying to convince, correct, or lobby for their agendas?

Jesus never said that getting along would be easy, especially loving one another. But He did call us to do it.

Becky Keife, from (in)Courage, joins me in this episode to discuss the book, Come Sit With me, How to Delight in Differences, Love through Disagreements, and Live with Discomfort.

The book features Becky's story, as well as 26 other women from all walks of life who discuss friendship across religious and political differences, putting people over positions and forgiving before or without apology.

Relationships are hard, and we hope that today we can give you some tools to help navigate through some of those tensions and leave you with grace-filled learning moments.

New Testament, Matthew 5 & Luke 6, Blessed Are Ye, Come Follow Me

New Testament, Matthew 5 & Luke 6, Blessed Are Ye, Come Follow Me

Join us this week as we discuss parts of the Sermon on The Mount.  We discuss the difference between letting you light shine and sounding a trumpet about your good deeds.  We discuss what means for salt to lose it savor and how we can apply that to our lives.  Be sure to check it out.

    From Come Follow Me:

By this point in His ministry, it was clear that Jesus’s teachings would be unlike what the people of His time were used to hearing. The poor will receive the kingdom of God? The meek will inherit the earth? Blessed are the persecuted? The scribes and Pharisees were not teaching such things. And yet those who truly understood God’s law recognized truth in the Savior’s words. “An eye for an eye” and “hate thine enemy” were lesser laws (Matthew 5:38, 43). But Jesus Christ had come to teach a higher law (see 3 Nephi 15:2–10), designed to help us one day become “perfect, even as [our] Father which is in heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:48).
