    Happy Birthday, Frank Lovejoy

    Happy Birthday, Frank Lovejoy

Actor Frank Lovejoy was born March 28, 1912. In his all-too short career before his death at age 50, Lovejoy appeared on the big and small screens in memorable roles. One of my favorites is his turn as Detective Nicolai, an old friend of Humphrey Bogart's who begins to suspect Bogie of murder in Nicholas Ray's In a Lonely Place.

Old time radio fans may know him best as Chicago reporter Randy Stone in the outstanding dramatic mystery series Night Beat, a role he played from 1950 to 1952. But Lovejoy made a number of appearances on radio. He played villains on The Shadow and was heard regularly on Gang Busters. After several shows where he was in the supporting cast, Lovejoy made over a dozen visits as leading man to "radio's outstanding theater of thrills."

Here are a few of his appearances on Suspense, including several where he co-starred with his wife, actress Joan Banks.

"The Wreck of the Old 97" - A folk song provides the backdrop for a Suspense-ful retelling of the infamous train wreck. Frank Lovejoy plays two characters in this tale. (March 17, 1952)

"The Shooting of Billy the Kid" - Just days after he appeared in the premiere episode of Gunsmoke, the infamous gunfighter Billy Bonney is the subject of this story. (April 28, 1952)

"The Frightened City" - Frank Lovejoy co-stars with his wife Joan Banks in this story of a man who returns home from war to find his hometown under siege from an insidious evil force. (November 10, 1952)

"The Storm" - Another episode featuring real-life husband and wife Frank Lovejoy and Joan Banks, this episode casts them as a feuding couple trapped in a resort with a hurricane on the horizon. (March 2, 1953)

"Public Defender" - In this courtroom drama, a man charged with robbery is defended by the husband of his alleged victim. (April 20, 1953)

"On a Country Road" - Frank Lovejoy and Joan Banks are back in this version of one of the very best shows Suspense ever produced. A husband and wife are stranded on a dark road even as police hunt an escaped murderer nearby. (January 4, 1954)

After Hours Ep 60 - Everything Commission Painting with Aaron Lovejoy

After Hours Ep 60 - Everything Commission Painting with Aaron Lovejoy

Hey Model Workers, if this episode sounds like it was recorded last week, it's because it totally was! We had an issue that made it where we where unable to get this uploaded. This was originally referenced as episode 59, even though it is actually episode 60. This week we are joined by the hilariously awesome Aaron Lovejoy of Miniature Monthly and Guild Painting Service as we talk about everything commission painting.

Models Workshop After Hours is where the crew and friends of the site sit back and chill while painting their miniatures and models. Topics range from miniature/modeling companies, paint brushes, paints, airbrushes, kitbashing, conversions, tools of the trade, conventions, kickstarters, reviews, advice, with a whole bunch of dirty humor and language. This is not a game play podcast, we rarely talk about that. This is about the art behind the games we play!

Episode 208 - Night Moves (Night Beat)

Episode 208 - Night Moves (Night Beat)

Reporter Randy Stone makes a nightly trek through the streets of the Windy City in search of stories for his column. This week, we’ll join him as he covers the Night Beat. Frank Lovejoy stars as Stone, not a professional detective but a man who nevertheless ends up entangled with cops and crooks as he works to meet his deadlines. We’ll hear “The Night Watchman” (originally aired on NBC on May 15, 1950) and “The Doctor’s Secret” (originally aired on NBC on August 21, 1950).

Episode 163 - My Kind of Town (Night Beat)

Episode 163 - My Kind of Town (Night Beat)

Follow reporter Randy Stone on his nightly sojourn through the streets of Chicago in Night Beat. Stone, voiced by Frank Lovejoy, covers the city after dark for his paper, and he makes his trek in search of stories for his columns. What he usually finds are desperate people and dangerous situations in one of radio’s best dramas. We’ll hear Randy Stone on the trail of a scoop in “Am I My Brother’s Keeper” (originally aired on NBC on March 13, 1950) and “City at Your Fingertips” (originally aired on NBC on July 31, 1950).

Episode 151 - Amazing Stories (Amazing Mr. Malone)

Episode 151 - Amazing Stories (Amazing Mr. Malone)

Craig Rice blended hard-boiled mystery and screwball comedy in the exploits of John J. Malone. The hard-drinking, rumpled criminal defense attorney played private eye to solve his cases in mysteries that were in a league of their own. The zanier elements of his character were toned down when he came to radio in The Amazing Mr. Malone, but listeners could still enjoy the adventures of a character quick with a quip and sharp-eyed enough to spot any clue. We’ll hear Frank Lovejoy as Malone in “Cleanliness is Next to Godliness,” originally aired on ABC on August 28, 1948.

    Flixwise Favorites: The Hitch-Hiker

    Flixwise Favorites: The Hitch-Hiker

Lady P, Martin Kessler, and Marya E. Gates continue the "A Year With Women" series with a special "Noirvember" episode. In today's Flixwise Favorites entry, the panel peers into the shadows that line the deserted highways in Ida Lupino's THE HITCH-HIKER. The film takes the viewer on a harrowing ride through the Baja California desert, as a pair of unassuming middle aged men are kidnapped by a wanted murderer and forced to help him flee the authorities.

THE HITCH-HIKER is loaded with noir tropes: desolate landscapes, expressionist lighting, a creeping sense of dread, etc. However, there are lots of ways that the film breaks with custom and starts veering into other genres. The panelists talk about the ways that Lupino plays with noir conventions, as well as her depiction of post-WWII masculinity, and the way she uses Mexico to symbolize both exoticism and foreboding.

Then, they also have a lengthy discussion about how THE HITCH-HIKER compares to Lupino's other great, but less-widely-seen noir, THE BIGAMIST.

Episode 97 - Night Time is the Right Time (Night Beat)

Episode 97 - Night Time is the Right Time (Night Beat)

Sixty-five years ago this week, radio listeners met Randy Stone, the intrepid Chicago reporter of Night Beat. Every night, Randy (played by Frank Lovejoy) wanders the streets of the Windy City in search of stories for his column, and he finds dangerous and desperate people and gets involved in their trials and tribulations. We'll hear "Zero," the show's premiere episode (originally aired on NBC on February 6, 1950); and "Tong War" (originally aired on NBC on April 17, 1950).

Kwik-E-Pod 036: War of The Simpsons is here with returning guest, Seng Chen. The conversation starts immediately with Homestar Runner, Elysium, names and faces, fishing, house parties (minus Kid & Play), the domestication of Seng and Chris, eating all the food, and the moral of the story.

Episode 49 - Perfectly Frank (Night Beat & Blue Beetle)

Episode 49 - Perfectly Frank (Night Beat & Blue Beetle)

Frank Lovejoy was one of the busiest actors during the Golden Age of Radio, and we're saluting him this week with an hour of his performances as crimefighters on the air.  First, he's back as Chicago reporter Randy Stone in "The Hunter Becomes the Hunted" from Night Beat, originally aired on NBC on September 11, 1950.  Then, he dons the mask and costume of The Blue Beetle in the 1940 syndicated episode "Murder for Profit."

Asara Lovejoy - One Command Cash Creation

Asara Lovejoy - One Command Cash Creation

One Command Cash Creation with Asara Lovejoy is our treat for you today.  This acclaimed Speaker, Internet Marketer and Executive Success Coach, ITunes podcast show ‘Activate your Rich Mind for Wild Success’ and best-selling author of ‘One Command’, and not surprisingly Asara is also a multi-million dollar business owner.

Now we are always hearing that we live in a world of abundance and that money is mere energy and we can easily attract it into our lives…. However that is not everyone’s experience of money.  For some, whatever course they take, book they read, mindset they try and shift – still money is elusive.

Like us at Wired For Success TV, Asara firmly believes that every human being is ‘hard wired’ to be wealthy and it is their birthright to enjoy a life of Abundance and Joy.   She says, “You are hard-wired for success right within your brain, biology and DNA and in 6-easy steps and One Command we show you how to access that power.”

Asara passionately believes that by accessing your ‘Rich Brain,’ men, women and children can move beyond the Law of Attraction, made popular by the global phenomenon The Secret, and shift into the ‘Law of Creation’.

In this entertaining and transformational interview,  Asara shares with us how attracting wealth is very simple and that anyone who is willing, can gain access to their theta mind and forever change the course of their life and financial future.  In fact she takes us through a simple exercise during this interview that left us both feeling quite spaced out and Beryl with a hot flush!

Her 5 week course: ‘Commanding Cash and the Emotions of Money’ is your step by step guide to bringing wealth into your life and here Asara fills us in on what you can expect from her teachings.

“Don’t ask for what you want, don’t wait for what you want Command it!” is her pet phrase

    Affirmations - Do They Work?

    Affirmations - Do They Work?
We will discuss how the One Command can help you easily and effortlessly change your life for the better. Topic: An affirmation is a statement of truth you make firm by repetition.  Does this really work?  Does saying I am tall, slender and beautiful make a short, stout and homely person change?  I know that is over the top, however does just repeating something over and over make it true?  My short answer is: "It depends." This week, with a special guest, we are going to discuss the idea around affirmations and why they do or don't work.Â

    Seek First The Kingdom

    Seek First The Kingdom
Jose Silva researched the alpha and theta states of the mind and layed the groundwork for what we know as The One Command. His research was a breakthrough in technology. His favorit formula was "Seek ye first the kingdom of heaven and function within God's righteousness, then all else will be added unto you." Today we discuss asking for only good and Godly outcomes when in the lowered brain waves of Alpha and Theta. Why is it that we cannot ask for a punishment for what you perceive others have done to you. Join us for our show about The One Command which helps us realize our greatest and highest good.
