RECAP EPISODE: It's Time To Talk Frankly About the Eagles' Greatest Hits
EP 72 - Jim Whitesell, Head Coach, University at Buffalo
Coach Jim Whitesell,
In this episode, you’ll hear from Coach Jim Whitesell. Coach Whitesell is currently the Head Coach at the University at Buffalo. Coach Whitesell just completed year three as the leader of the Bulls. And, Buffalo has been one of the best mid-major basketball programs over the last decade. Before becoming the Head Coach at Buffalo, Jim was the Associate Head Coach for Coach Nate Oats at Buffalo. Coach Whitesell is on the verge of being a college head coach for 30 years. In the Chicagoland area, Coach Whitesell was the Head Coach at Elmhurst University, Lewis University, and Loyola University Chicago. He was the head coach for 24 years at these terrific D3, D2, and D1 institutions. However, as you soon hear, it was Coach Jim’s eight years as an assistant coach after being a head coach that propelled him to his current success as the Head Coach of Buffalo. Coach Whitesell had the pleasure to assist Coach Oats, Coach Steve Lavin (St. John’s), and the late Coach Rick Majerus (St. Louis). And, wait to hear the ultimate respect that Jim describes working for Coach Majerus. It is pretty special. Coach Whitesell does an amazing job of presenting some tangible tips for young coaches. Coach Whitesell is a positive energy coach and you are going to feed off his energy. In addition, Coach Jim is also a meticulous note-taker and learner. His thoughts on visual learning are really good. Finally, Coach Whitesell has such great love and empathy for his players at Buffalo. And, the ways that he shows them his love is excellent and relatable for all coaches. That being said, wait to hear Coach Jim’s current mindset with his assistant coaches. Again, to me, a must-listen for all coaches, specifically head coaches.
