What's up mi gente, long time no see!  I had to take a lil break because there wasn't much music coming out, so I combined these last 2 months here to give you another megamix of the Top 10 Latin Trap, Cumbia and Regional Mexican.  We have 2 huge releases that I picked a few songs from, the new Bad Bunny and Fuerza Regida albums.  WOW, these both have hit after hit and I had to narrow it down to my absolute favorites, let me know if you agree or are loving other tracks on the albums.  Grupo Frontera keeps putting out hit after hit with a new collab with Arcangel and they drop another single by themselves, they don't need any features given how hot they are.  Lastly, we got living legends Los Tucanes de Tijuana and Los Tigres Del Norte going head to head, along with new heat from Chino Pacas and Junior H.  Glad to be back and get ready for my year end best of 2023 mixes coming soon, BAILA YA!!!

On this episode of The Stage, host Ken Burke speaks with Ramon Rivera, Mount Vernon School District Mariachi Director, Mariachi Artist, and 2023 Washington State Music Educator of the year. Ramon Rivera began teaching Mariachi in the late 90s and brings a wealth of knowledge on the subject and on educating to this conversation.

As he leads and educates students through music, he has built the most extensive Mariachi Program on the west side of the state of Washington in the Mount Vernon High School Mariachi & Folklorico program with over 200 students enrolled. 

Talking points for today's discussion:

• How he initially became interested in music education 
• The unique benefits that mariachi music and Folklorico brings to students
• Letting students pursue their passions and any activity they want
• How he has seen mariachi music education positively impact cultural awareness and appreciation
• Ways in which parents and communities can support the growth of music education
• Success stories about students whose lives have been positively impacted by their involvement in mariachi music education

What's up mi gente, I hope you all are enjoying the beauty of Fall, this will definitely be your soundtrack for the night!  This week we got Latin Trap heat from LIT killah, TIAGO PZK, Sech and Eladio Carron, along with a head banger from Ptazeta.  As far as cumbias, 2 hits from Grupo Frontera get the remix treatment from Muzik Junkies and DJDX to light up your dancefloor.  We also got brand new cumbia from Los Aptos, Grupo Varonil and electro cumbia legend, Raymix!  If I'm being honest though, I would have to say my favorite part of the mix this week, are the Corridos Tumbados representing the Regional Mexican genre this week.  Every single record is straight FIRE!!!  Chino Pacas, Ivan Orozco, Oscar Maydon, Junior H and Gabito Ballesteros over deliver and leave their mark on the Regional Mexican genre once again, LET'S GO!!!

What's up mi gente!  This week we get a Top 5 of Latin Trap and Cumbia and a special bonus Top 8 of Regional Mexican.  Karol G drops a new album outta nowhere and I feature 2 of her hottest records from there.  Maluma is back with a Latin Trap banger and Young Miko kills it again and drops bars on bars.  Grupo Frontera also dropped their much anticipated new album and I feature their new cumbia hit with Carin Leon.  Banda MS, Los Angeles Azules both team up with Maria Becerra and Yahritza to bridge the gap from the legends to the next generation of stars.  Lastly, I freshen up the Regional Mexican mix by showcasing 4 genres this week; Banda, Mariachi, Norteño and Corridos Tumbados.  I'm glad I did, because I can't stop listening to Sherlyn Sánchez light up my speakers with her amazing vocals that make me love classic Mariachi music more than ever.  Junior H, Oscar Maydon, Calle 24, Chino Pacas & Fuerza Regida are all blazing up the charts with new head banging corridos that round out the mix, or at least I head bang to them, lol. So fire up that grill for one last BBQ this summer and LET'S GOOO!!!

Roman is also an editor and writer at the Imperial Valley Press newspaper.
Both join me on todays show as my first ever double guest! Both Willie and Roman were in high school band with me and we get into some fun old stories about what it was like back in those days. Music is an amazing thing and I hope maybe this episode inspires a listener to pick up any instrument and have some fun learning it. You never know, it could very well be your next passion!
