Mia Hamm: Goals, Games, and Gratitude

Mia Hamm: Goals, Games, and Gratitude

A great week on The Nikki & Brie Show continues as USWNT soccer legend Mia Hamm joins them for an exceptional conversation that covers her career on the field, her perspective on being a mother, her work to raise awareness for bone marrow transplants and the special connection she has to the bone marrow transplant community.

For years Nikki & Brie have been putting it out in the universe that they wanted to get Mia Hamm on the podcast. Growing up in Arizona and playing soccer, they both looked up to the USWNT that won multiple World Cups and Olympic Gold medals, and created a path of empowerment and achievement in life.

Mia talks about the responsibility and opportunity that the team embraced, knowing that young eyes across the country were watching their every move, raising twin girls, filming a legendary Gatorade commercial with Michael Jordan and what his support meant, exhausting practices that tested her mental fortitude, and how she was introduced to the game of soccer, and the WWE superstar that used to throw her into a pool as a kid that went on to also have a Hall of Fame career.

Mia also highlights the importance of her big brother Garrett, whom she admired greatly, who passed away in 1997 from complications following a bone marrow transplant (BMT) his family hoped could help cure aplastic anemia, a rare bone marrow disease he was battling at the time, which is why bone marrow transplant support and gave her a new mission in life to help other families, teaming up with Incyte to make sure they get the tools and information they need with a procedure that can have serious complications like Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD).

Mia closes out the episode with a special Inspiration & Affirmation that focuses on being present in a world that’s full of distractions.

Nourishment For The Body and Soul: Getting to the MARROW of Life

Nourishment For The Body and Soul: Getting to the MARROW of Life

The marrow–be it of a bone or of a book–is the deepest, healthiest, most sought-after thing that we can nourish ourselves with.

It is the hidden flake of gold, the buried piece of diamond for which we all dig–than which every lustrous rock and special stone is far less valuable.

In this episode, we draw our inspiration from the great French Renaissance writer, François Rabelais.

In his immortal book, “Gargantua”, Rabelais compares a dog (crowned by Plato as the animal kingdom’s most “philosophical” creature) who is in hungry pursuit of bone marrow, and a human’s attempt to get at the marrow of wisdom.

The aim, in both cases, is to get to the marrow of life–for the nourishment not only of the body, but of the soul as well.

    65. Be Diligent To Enter That Rest: Hebrews 4; John Moore; Sunday Sermon

    65. Be Diligent To Enter That Rest: Hebrews 4; John Moore; Sunday Sermon

We see a challenge issued in Hebrews not to act like the children of Israel with disobedience and unbelief. To all in the exodus from Egypt, God invites them to all be priests and to enlarge their camp to overcome the world. They did not believe Him and ask if Moses could be the one to talked to God face to face.

In Hebrews God invites us again to enter His rest without unbelief and disobedience. The door is Jesus who is the Word of God who is alive and powerful. Jesus divides our soul and spirit, our joints and marrow, and our thoughts and intents. He makes us to be like Him. Holy Spirit help our unbelief.

Life Sciences: Stem cells make the heart grow stronger

Life Sciences: Stem cells make the heart grow stronger
Research on stem cells is controversial. They promise to provide novel therapies for many degenerative diseases but, so far, the primary source of stem cells is embryonic tissue. Clinical researcher Professor Wolfgang-Michael Franz hopes to use stem cells to repair heart tissue damaged by myocardial infarction. His colleague Professor Hans-Jochem Kolb aims to enhance the effectiveness of bone-marrow transplantation, an established treatment for leukemia, which involves the transfer of hematopoietic stem cells.
