    11. A Caregiver's Heart

    11. A Caregiver's Heart
This week's episode has been two years in the making. Mary Anne purposely waited to share this story publicly because it should come from the caregiver herself. Challis Prilliman had to be ready to see the good that came out of such a horrible event. Her experience changed her life as well as her family's lives forever.

Many have never heard the story of Challis and her husband Al. It's a caregiver’s nightmare but it's also a genuine love story. In the depth of sadness, grief, and a virus named Covid, many found themselves in Challis’s shoes. For those caring for their loved ones with dementia, she continues to be a champion for their cause.

    105. Dunking For Dementia!

    105. Dunking For Dementia!

Sue's special guest (for the third time!) is Mary Anne Oglesby-Sutherly of the Veranda Ministries in Gallatin, TN. On June 4th, 2022, from 9am to 12 noon, the fundraiser "Dunking For Dementia" will raise the awareness of the local respite care program, while celebrities and local community leaders get "dunked" for the cause.

"Dunking for Dementia’ has become a favorite event for our respite program. It’s always fun when our local businesses join in supporting the community. This event is a wonderful opportunity for people to get outside, enjoy some fresh air and a little spirited competition—all in the name of helping support our respite program,” Mary Anne Oglesby-Sutherly, executive director of Veranda Ministries, said.

And Sue Duffield is one of the contestants to get dunked! If you'd like to donate towards the cause (even after the event), get on https://www.theverandaministries.org/dunking-2022.html

    8. Fun Chat with Rob Novell

    8. Fun Chat with Rob Novell

What a fun episode with Mary Anne Oglesby-Sutherly, musician/producer Rob Novell and Sue Duffield! This casual chat between musician friends will have you laughing, especially when the discussion morphs into their soon-to-be competitive world of the dunk tank! But on a serious note, the late Charles Novell, Rob's dad, suffered with Parkinsons Disease. Hearing the emotion of his son's take on it all, gives such hope for all who are caregivers.

On Saturday, June 4th, 2022, from 9am - 12 noon, The Veranda Ministries will host "Dunking for Dementia" as a fundraiser for the ministry in Gallatin, TN. For more information, see www.verandaministries.org

    7. Pam Speta

    7. Pam Speta

Pam Speta is a certified Positive Approach® to Care Trainer and is also a Certified Nursing Assistant. She cared for her husband, Rich, who had dementia, at home. She learned first-hand the remarkable and profound effect that PAC education had on handling the behavior changes she saw in her husband.

Forget Me Not Village was born out of the idea of changing the way we treat Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, dementia, and brain injury patients. When Rich, Pam’s husband was diagnosed with MCI at 60, neither of them knew what an impact that would have on their future lives. As a result of this journey, Forget Me Not Family Care Home was born, then came the Village.

The concept is simple. Create an environment where families dealing with the disease can help each other in a safe and secure facility. Add an adult daycare in the form of a dementia village and you have created something that has never been done before.

An extraordinary episode with Mary Anne and Pam - for ALL caregivers.
