Adedeji Odulesi | International Master of Ceremony - The Benefits of Understanding and Speaking Multiple Languages

Adedeji Odulesi | International Master of Ceremony - The Benefits of Understanding and Speaking Multiple Languages

In today’s episode of the Think BIG for Africa Podcast, my guest is a polyglot Adedeji Odulesi. Adedeji is fluent in three Nigerian and four European languages. This extraordinary language skill and composure enable Adedeji to become a sort after International Master of Ceremony. Also, Adedeji has a YouTube channel where he showcases other Africans with excellent language skills.

    Africa being a continent with over 3,000 languages, I was excited to speak with Adedeji on his views about the impact of the diversity of language and culture on Africa. Here are our conversation topics;

    1.        Build a career around your talents, skills, and what you love

    2.      How a polyglot farmer became a most sort-after Master of Ceremony

    3.      How does Africa’s diversity of languages and cultures affect its unity

    4.     The role of language in development in a fast-paced world

    5.      Advise for young Africans - See your cup ss HALF-FULL and take ownership of your present and future

    6.      Why we shouldn’t place our hope on politicians – most have never successfully built ANYTHING.

    7.      Africa Will Be The Center of The World in 20-30 Years

    8.     Why Africans must challenge our norms

The art of the MC — Julia Zemiro and Brian Nankervis talk about hosting and MCing

The art of the MC — Julia Zemiro and Brian Nankervis talk about hosting and MCing

For 15 seasons and 181 episodes, Julia Zemiro and Brian Nankervis have been the dual hosts of 'Rockwiz', bringing their wit, charm and performance energy to Australia's legendary music quiz show. In this episode Tony chats to them about what makes a good MC, and they share tips and yarns from several decades of hosting big events.

In the second half, Tony's 12 year old son Jack joins the conversation. He's a big fan of Julia and Brian (and Rockwiz), and fancies himself as a bit of an MC himself. He prepared some questions for his heroes, and it's a lovely and funny end to the episode.

There's some extra Jack questions that will be in the bonus Patreon feed, and on the Speakola newsletter

Episode 4: JAMming, MCing, Vuex & More with Divya Sasidharan

Episode 4: JAMming, MCing, Vuex & More with Divya Sasidharan
    Sponsored By:
Enjoy the Vue – Episode 4 In this episode of Enjoy the Vue we sit down with Divya Sasidharan. Divya will be the Master of Ceremonies at Vue.js in Amsterdam, and just weeks after she is hosting a workshop on “Vue State Management with Vuex” at VueConfUS in Austin. Divya is currently a Developer Advocate at Netlify. She believes that there is a better workflow for building and deploying sites that doesn’t require a server…just ask her about the JAMstack. We chat with her about emceeing, blogging, hosting a workshop, and JAMstack. [00:01:51] Divya talks about her involvement in the VueConf’s coming up. Vue.js in Amsterdam and VueConf US where she is hosting a workshop. She gives us a quick peek into this intro to Vuex workshop. At Vue.js she is the emcee. [00:05:32] Chris digs deeper into emceeing (vs giving talks or hosting workshops) and what it takes to do it. Divya goes into how it was a natural evolution for her. [00:15:55] Chris circles back to the Vuex Workshop that Divya is hosting. She explains how it grew out of previous talks she was doing. Divya likes the fact that there is much more interactivity when doing workshops, vs talks where it’s pretty much a one-way conversation. There are also time constraints when giving talks. A workshop provides so much more freedom. [00:24:02] Elizabeth was following Divya’s JAMuary posts about JAMstack. Divya created a series, which involved sharing thoughts and insights about JAMstack on a daily basis. [00:34:12] Divya explains what JAMstack is...Javascript, API, and Markup. It’s about building sites as statically as possible. She goes in depth into JAMstack. 017 - Master the room! How to create engagement with your audience - with Derek Bruce

017 - Master the room! How to create engagement with your audience - with Derek Bruce

In this episode, I talk to Derek Bruce. He is a Leadership Development Director, and has worked in HR, Learning & Development and is also an expert keynote speaker and event moderator and host.

Derek and I speak about the importance of engaging the audience - whether it is in a workshop, meeting or at a conference. When our audience feels engaged, they will listen to us and interact, they will feel enabled to act upon the content we try to bring across.

Besides engaging the audience, Derek and I touch on a million other topics: the skillset of managers to survive the “future of work”, the impact of preparation on our mindset and the workshop atmosphere, and: why you may want to ask your audience to take a selfie.

Don’t miss the part when Derek shares his lessons learned from facilitating a workshop where half the participants were physically present and the other half joined via video call. Tune in to learn how to assure that the virtual participants are as engaged as if they sat in the same room….
