Kirk Franklin honors Maverick City and Diddy Gets the Lifetime Achievement Award

In this episode of Becoming with Angelina Watkins, she highlights black music cultures biggest night of the year, the BET Awards.

It was a star-studded night of fashion, performances and speeches we will be talking about for months. BET’s 2022 award show was very entertaining for some and mediocre for others. Nevertheless, no matter the opinion of those watching from home, the celebrities were definitely in the house and crowd was going wild.

In this episode Angelina highlights parts of the show that she thought was awesome and has something to say about the long awaited Lifetime Achievement Award given to Diddy. Lizzo did not disappoint, Latto is all grown up, and Chloe is fabulous all by herself.

But it was the gesture from Kirk Franklin passing the baton to the next generation that prompted the Thought Prompt in this episode of not being stingy with your knowledge and gifts.

Angelina was so excited that Diddy, one of her favorite celebrities, was finally getting his just deserves, the Lifetime Achievement Award. Kirk Franklin said in his speech to give people their flowers while they are still alive and that is exactly what BET did for Diddy. It has been long overdue, but was it worth the wait? Many showed up to honor Diddy from the likes of Jodeci, Mary J. Blige, Shyne, Lil Kim, Busta Rhymes, and others, but. . . . . .was it enough? Angelina gives her thoughts in the masterclass about honoring people with excellency.

Alexandria Faison - Showing Up and Saying Yes to Jesus
Alexandria Faison is the worship pastor at the Vineyard Church of Davenport, Iowa.  She was born into a musical family of faith, singing solos in the choir at her Baptist church at 8 years old and eventually leading worship at 16 years old when they started attending the Vineyard.  Alex felt God’s leadership call on her life while attending the University of Northern Iowa where she had a full-ride scholarship for music education, and she soon returned to her home church where she joined the staff as worship director in 2015.  Alex has worked with Vineyard Worship for several years and was a featured voice on Vineyard Soul: Generous God. She will also appear as a vocalist on the much anticipated release Breathe In, Sing Out, releasing early 2022. Alex is passionate about leading people into the presence of God through worship.

In this episode of The Ferment, Alex shares about her gospel roots, growing up in the black Baptist church and what it was like for her family to join a predominantly white congregation when they started attending the Vineyard. She also talks about becoming a worship pastor as a teenager and how she processed some of the reactions people had, the environment she’s in that allows her to be brave and share her experiences as a young black woman, and how she has cultivated relationships in different seasons of life. Alex is an old and gentle soul and this episode is marked by her wisdom and joy.

Maverick City Music’s Naomi Raine: Leading Worship from Security & Purity

Maverick City Music’s Naomi Raine: Leading Worship from Security & Purity

Just because you are anointed, incredibly gifted, have deep revelations, & God is using you does not mean you are a healthy leader or person.

The pursuit of wholeness is one of the highest callings as a son & daughter, simply because of what it yields in our lives & in turn, what it affirms and sows into others.

This is a lifelong purist, but progress and transformation are possible.

Naomi Raine, a worship leader and deep well of wisdom who's a part of the Maverick City Music family, is living proof of what happens when you commit yourself to becoming whole.

Her story of intentionally choosing her internal dialogue and anchoring into a community of accountability will encourage you that freedom and wholeness are possible.
