Losing Faith In The Knicks Because Of Injuries; Evan Roberts' New Book; Knicks Lose; Tyler Megill Working On New Pitch; Bob Costas Laughs A Lot; Congestion Pricing Complaints (Hour 1)

Gio is officially checking out of the Knicks right now. They have so many injuries and keep losing. Gio said he can never be happy as a NY sports fan. Boomer said they just have to hang on until the playoffs when they should have their injured players back. Gio said all this injury crap started last year with Edwin Diaz and Aaron Judge. Then Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander. Then Aaron Rodgers and Daniel Jones for our football teams. And now the injuries are killing the Knicks. Evan Roberts has a book called, ‘My Mets Bible’, and we discussed it. Jerry is here for his first update and starts with the sounds from last night’s Knicks loss. Charles Barkley joined Instagram even though he said he would never go on social media. Tylor Megill is working on a ‘spork-ball’. Jerry has audio of Bob Costas from his old show, Later, with Richard Lewis as a guest. Costas was over the top laughing at things that weren’t even funny. In the final segment of the hour, a new hero emerges at the congestion pricing public hearing.

    Jake Burger

    Jake Burger

If Keep Swinging had a movie poster, Jake Burger would be featured  at the center of it. The Miami Marlins third baseman was drafted 11th overall in 2017 by the Chicago White Sox and signed for $3.1 million. What happened next is something no one could have predicted or even be able to prepare for. Burger suffered multiple ankle injuries shortly after making his professional baseball debut that led to 1,163 days without playing organized baseball. On this episode of Keep Swinging with Matt Stucko, Burger details his journey back to the ball field, mental health, the highs and lows and so much more that will leave you feeling inspired and motivated.

    Josiah Gray

    Josiah Gray

2023 MLB All-Star Josiah Gray only had one college scholarship offer when he was in high school and it was from a Division II program. The starting pitcher dominated with the Le Moyne Dolphins and ended up being drafted in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft. The righthander skyrocketed to the big leagues, where he's been impressive early in his career as a member of the Washington Nationals. Like Gray said the night he got drafted, he is showing the impossible is possible as he hops on Keep Swinging to share his story with Matt Stucko.

POLL: IF THEY'RE BOTH TOO OLD, BIDEN WINS IN A LANDSLIDE - 10.31.23

POLL: IF THEY'RE BOTH TOO OLD, BIDEN WINS IN A LANDSLIDE - 10.31.23

SERIES 2 EPISODE 64: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN

A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: The Biden Campaign slogan should literally be “MY OLD MAN CAN BEAT UP YOUR OLD MAN.”

It is the most remarkable, unexpected, startling, counter-intuitive polling data I have ever seen: The future of democracy. The future of the prosecution of Trump. The future of the nation. The future of planetary climate. It may depend on convincing voters NOT that Joe Biden is somehow NOT TOO old but on convincing voters that he and Trump are BOTH TOO OLD. New polling shows 43 percent of Americans BELIEVE they’re BOTH too old and they plan to vote as follows:

    Biden 61% Trump 13%

In Pennsylvania it’s Biden 66% Trump 11%! If they’re BOTH too old – Biden wins in a landslide. Just growing the percentage IN Pennsylvania who believe they’re both too old by FIVE percent would flip 110-thousand Trump votes TO BIDEN. And helpfully Trump is not only acting old, he’s acting demented. In the last 48 hours he hasn’t known WHERE he was, nor what YEAR it was, and even The New York Times is writing about it.

Meanwhile, in a Washington courtroom, we had what one observer called a "proxy battle" for what might happen when Trump truly violates the newly-reinstated gag order. A J6 defendant freed while awaiting sentencing began to send violent, racist, homophobic, antisemitic texts to an FBI agent involved in his case, AND threatened to doxx him. The Judge had no problem cancelling his release and sending him directly to jail to await sentencing (the problem arose when he tried to resist the handcuffs and nearly took down four security officers).

B-BLOCK (28:44) IN SPORTS: What if they gave a World Series and nobody watched? Texas survived the by-now traditional early departure of Max Scherzer to pull ahead of Arizona (on the road of course) in last night's 3rd Game. But the bad TV ratings and lack of national interest among baseball fans was far worse than even I had expected. In fact, they were record-setting worse. Plus the first star of the Texas franchise, Frank Howard, died yesterday. (31:50) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Boris Johnson goes into TV news, possibly for the free hairstyling. Tim Scott says it's Iowa or bust. And why are the Philadelphia Eagles advertisements appearing next to videos of lunatic Stew Peters spewing hate and giving voice to calls for violence against organizations like Catholic Charities? And why isn't the team or the NFL doing anything about it?

C-BLOCK (37:50) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: October was the birthday month of one of my favorite humans of all-time. I met him only once but it was so memorable, so warm, so funny that a decade later when he died, I was stunned when I heard the news and broke into tears.

    Matt Strahm

    Matt Strahm

Matt Strahm is one of baseball's most enjoyable players to watch on and off the field. He also happens to be just one of the twenty or so players at the MLB level to be drafted in the 20th round of later making his journey to the big leagues even more impressive. In addition to beating the odds once he got into professional baseball, he was also born in raised in part of the United States where snow is on the ground for a majority of the year. Enjoy this episode featuring major league pitcher Matt Strahm and Keep Swinging's host Matt Stucko.

TRUMP'S NEW DEFENSE: JOHN EASTMAN DID IT! - 8.3.23

TRUMP'S NEW DEFENSE: JOHN EASTMAN DID IT! - 8.3.23

SEASON 2 EPISODE 4: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN

A-Block (1:43) SPECIAL COMMENT: The "it was just free speech, you're criminalizing the 1st Amendment" defense has been replaced. Trump's lawyers, Fox News puppets, and even opponents are all rolling out a new one:

    John Eastman did it!

Of course they are phrasing it differently. They are blaming it on Trump relying on "the advice of counsel." It's an ingenious strategy - you were too stupid to know your lawyer was an idiot. But it really only damages Obstruction charges, and it would require Trump to testify. Still, it does indicate Trump will keep throwing different things at the wall to see what might stick.

Plus, the media line for spaces at today's arraignment of Trump in DC began to form before sunset last night. Trump is almost certain to be there, even though cameras won't be. Trump's January 6th Insurrection turns out to have helped destroy America's credit rating. The debate over the identity of Unidentified Co-Conspirator 6 continues to raise with Maggie Haberman and the Times insisting it's Boris Epshteyn - but there's an important flaw in the description that they have ignored.

And you don't want to be Unidentified Co-Conspirator 1. The Rudy Giuliani tape transcripts are out from the rape and sexual abuse lawsuit against him and they actually ARE filled with slurs against Jews and gays and constant gross misogyny. I will give a dramatic reading.

B-Block (22:15) IN SPORTS: 37 days ago he was throwing a perfect game. Today, he's in in-patient alcohol rehab. And is Max Scherzer lying about the Mets? Or are the Mets lying to their fan base? Or did the Mets lie to Scherzer? (26:40) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Moms For Liberty - still fighting mental health. Warner Bros apologizes after they suddenly realize that "Barbenheimer" and "Ken's Atomic Bomb Hairstyle" might be a little offensive - in Japan. In August. And Uncle Fester steps in it: Joe Rogan smears Ray Epps, who was not a provocateur on 1/6 but IS extremely litigious.

C-Block (33:00) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Theo, in Queens, needs a forever family! (34:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Off by a day, but 44 years and a day ago, as a 20-year old rookie sportscaster and editor on a 1,000-station national radio network, I was literally walking into the booth for my first sportscast of the night when the news suddenly broke: the captain of the New York Yankees had died in a plane crash. That day will always be with me.

    Middle Fingers and Father Time

    Middle Fingers and Father Time

As the trade deadline crashes down, Pottymouth kries for Kiké returning to the LAD, and Patti plots to wrangle Max away from The Kids’ fantasy team now that he’s a Ranger. The Mets fire sale may help Mark VIentos get regular playing time. Juan’s injured middle finger keeps going up and down, just like Pottymouth’s. Ha Seong Kim has sneaky WAR. We strongly suggest a broadcast future for Joey Votto when he’s ready for a career change. International baseball is coming to us! In November, Citi Field will welcome LIDOM’s Aguilas Cibaeñas vs. Tigres de Licey for three games, and Miami will host the Serie del Caribe in February.  Plenty of time to request leave. Rob Manfred is never leaving – teams voted to extend his contract as commissioner until 2029. Bad for As, good for killing the blackout.  We are grateful for the lovely gifts sent to us by friends of the show, and those of you who donated to Proud to Be in Baseball in honor of our 300th episode. Congrats to Anna on your prize package!

I THINK TRUMP BELIEVES DE OLIVEIRA IS ABOUT TO FLIP - 7.31.23

I THINK TRUMP BELIEVES DE OLIVEIRA IS ABOUT TO FLIP - 7.31.23

EPISODE 257: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN

A-Block (1:43) SPECIAL COMMENT: It's just guess but I think Trump is TERRIFIED that his “Property Manager” Carlos De Oliveira is about to flip. Trump freaked out again last night about Jack Smith and the documents and Hilary emails and Biden documents and the Special Counsel covering the Biden documents review – and without provocation from any known developments – and the LAST time he did that I told you “SOMETHING is going on at the Grand Jury but I’ll be damned if I know what” and hours later there was a superseding indictment on the documents so with that context let me say it again: SOMETHING is going on at the Grand Jury because Trump may not have MANY human traits but he is really good on exhibiting cause and effect. And this freakout may have something to do with either or both of two developments. At 10:30 this morning, at the James Lawrence King Federal Justice Building in Miami, Courtroom 5, before Magistrate Judge Edwin G. Torres, we will see present himself for his first appearance who else but Trump’s newest co-defendant, his Mar-a-Lago “Property Manager” Carlos De Oliveira: the guy who gave us THE money quote, so far, of the destruction of evidence and obstruction case, “The boss wants the server deleted.”

And if the Trump freak out doesn’t owe to THAT indictment hearing, and the prospect that not everybody is as dumb as Walt Nauta, and that a YEAR ago Trump wasn’t sure De Oliveira wasn’t the kind of guy who’d flip, then it’s the fact that CLEARLY Trump’s Mar-a-Lago I-T Guy Yuscil Taveras already flipped.

B-Block (18:51) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: The Trump stochastic terrorist who hunted Barack Obama moves to be released from jail, and we have a SCOTUS problem: Sam Alito isn't just corrupt, he's gone crazy (22:38) IN SPORTS: Max Scherzer, Jordan Hicks, others traded as baseball's deal deadline looms. But what the GM of the New York Mets said AFTER he traded Scherzer kind of paints himself and his owner into a corner in which they have to sign Shohei Ohtani (29:26) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Ron DeSantis's pro-slavery campaign costs Orlando $4.6 million. NJ Congressman Christopher Smith wants to scuttle the World HIV/AIDS program over a conspiracy theory. And Musk reinstates Kanye West.

C-Block (35:15) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: The adorable Petros in Devore CA (36:15) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: I made a flub on D-Day which reminded me of the day the president of MSNBC staked everything on covering the 60th Anniversary OF D-Day - and major news broke which he tried to avoid running in order to protect his dream!
