    How This Nurse Practitioner Pushes Through Adversity with Grace -Ep. 23

    Kenneth Osei-Gyan is a Lead Nurse Practitioner for the Department of Health in the City of Newark working as an Internist. He is dedicated and committed to his community, making sure all who come into contact with him are left feeling seen, heard, supported, and most of all, knowing that they matter. 

    His previous professional experience includes working in medical-surgical and post-anesthesia care units, providing adult medicine and care for patients with traumatic orthopedic injuries and debilitating diseases, and as a charge nurse overseeing three recovery room departments and 64 Registered Nurses. While Kenneth has significant experience in the medical setting, he has worked in academia serving as the Student Development Specialist for the Educational Opportunity Fund Program at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey. 

    Kenneth completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Montclair State University, a  second Bachelors of Science in Nursing at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and his Masters of Science in Nursing from Rutgers University.

    A proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, Kenneth has been a recipient of many awards including Mount Sinai Hospital’s Magnet Nursing Award.

    On this episode, Adrian Espinosa, MPH, MS, RN, PHN, FNP-BC discusses his current practice as a Nurse Practitioner working in San Jose, California and the struggles he has overcome in his nursing journey. He also notes cultural implications of working with, and treating the Latinx community.  Adrian shares how fortunate he is to work with some of our most vulnerable populations via community and county health systems. 

    Adrian is the immediate Past President of the Greater San Jose Chapter of NAHN, national board member for the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, and President of the Supernova Foundation, a non-profit he co-founded eleven years ago.  Adrian's mantra learned by his Abuelita is "Un Dia A La Vez" (One Day at a Time).
