How to Support Your Son Who Is Addicted to Gaming with Dr Agam Dhawan

Unlock a deeper understanding of male mental health, gaming addiction, and the transformative role fathers can play in their sons' lives. Dr. Agam Dhawan, a seasoned psychiatrist specializing in the field, helps us navigate through the complexities of video game addiction, its impact on young men, and the broader implications on their mental health. We challenge societal stigmas, advocating for the importance of open dialogues about mental health, the power of fostering individual identities, and the need for fathers and mentors to step in and guide our sons through these challenges.

We delve into the unique journey each father and son pair embarks on, highlighting the importance of experiential learning and connection. Debunking the myths around traditional therapy, we emphasize the need for a more tailored, experiential approach. Fathers and mentors, you have the power to help your sons navigate their gaming habits, and in the process, foster stronger relationships and a healthier mindset. We share insightful strategies on how to replace addictive behaviours with positive habits, challenge our sons to strive for rewards, and the role negotiation plays in their lives.

Lastly, we shed light on the bright side of video gaming - it's not just an entertainment outlet but can serve as a powerful tool for social connection and communication. We share personal experiences where gaming has bridged gaps, nurtured relationships, and even brought families together. Diagnosed with ADHD as an adult with Octavian Constantinescu.

In this episode, we discuss Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) with my guest Octavian Constantinescu, who shares his life experiences and how an adult ADHD diagnosis helped him find clarity and focus. To listeners feeling frustrated at work or not meeting their expectations, Octavian advises investing in their mental health. While external factors may be beyond their control, focusing on one's own actions and well-being is imperative. Taking charge of mental health can empower individuals to navigate challenges effectively and lead a more fulfilling life.

Octavian references an adult ADHD assessment tool from the Canadian ADHD Resource Alliance website (https://www.caddra.ca) which can be accessed at Resources/ADHD Questionnaires/Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale Symptom Checklist.

Octavian also recommends a book ADHD 2.0 by Edward M. Hallowell and John J. Ratey.

    36. Redefining Manhood: A Deep Dive into Emotional Intelligence, Action-Taking, and Toxic Masculinity with Timothy of The Man Effect

    36. Redefining Manhood: A Deep Dive into Emotional Intelligence, Action-Taking, and Toxic Masculinity with Timothy of The Man Effect

Ever wonder what it really means to be a man? Our enlightening conversation with Timothy, founder of The Man Effect, challenges preconceived notions about manhood and peels back the layers of masculinity. He gets candid about his motivations to explore the essence of manhood through a unique photography project and reveals powerful stories emphasizing the role of emotional intelligence in defining manhood. This is not your typical chat about being a man; no, we're not discussing how to attract women, but rather, emotional intelligence and how it shapes the modern man.

Our chat goes beyond the surface as we tackle pressing issues about free will, the impact of our choices, and various coping mechanisms we employ. We delve into how action-taking and embracing failure can be pivotal in our personal growth. We also discuss the often controversial concept of toxic masculinity and the expectations society places on men. Then, we navigate the complex sexual market, shedding light on how a single decision can alter our lives significantly.

In closing, we emphasize the power of connection among men and the importance of collaboration. This conversation with Timothy is not just insightful but also thought-provoking, challenging traditional definitions and expectations of manhood. We assure you, by the end of this conversation, you'll be considering your own journey of self-improvement and the legacy you wish to leave behind. There's a lot to unpack here, so get comfortable, and let's take this enlightening journey together.

From Male Infertility to Living your Dreams a Deep Discussion with Sam Neffendorf

From Male Infertility to living our Dreams a Deep Discussion with Sam Neffendorf

I had a brilliant chat with Sam Neffendorf on his journey of fertility. From infertility on a man’s perspective to living the life of his dreams supporting others in the healing journeys and feeling aligned in his life.

    4.       when the decision came to have children, it didn't work.

    5.       Had himself tested from there was low mobility of his sperm.

    6.       Was given the diagnosis of anti-sperm antibodies, and told IVF was the only option.

    7.       The feelings of hopelessness and feeling very low.

    8.       Had acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine.

    9.       Had body work.

    10.   Three months later things better but still sub fertile.

    11.   Continued working on myself and several months later we were pregnant.

    17.   Sam created a new way to find who we are.

    a.       Seeing failure as steps to move forward in life.

How Gut Health Affects All Areas of Our Lives - with Rachel Scheer

How Gut Health Affects All Areas of Our Lives - with Rachel Scheer

If eating right and working out are all it takes to live a healthy lifestyle, then why do so many people continue to suffer and not feel their best? With there being so may opinions about health and fitness out there on social media, it can be difficult to discern what to pay attention to. While the information regarding the “right” diet might seem overwhelming, it is actually a lot more simple than we think. It all comes down to one key component of our health: the gut. Today’s guest is here to tell us all about why it is so crucial to learn about how our gut impacts every area of our lives including hormones, and even our mental health.

Rachel Scheer is a Functional Medicine Nutritionist who received her degree from Baylor University in Nutrition Science and Dietetics and became certified in functional medicine through the Kalish Institute. She began her journey as a nutritionist in bodybuilding and athletic performance, however, a couple of years into her practice she began to suffer from severe gastrointestinal dysfunction and was given the diagnosis of IBS. After countless doctor visits, thousands of dollars, and the suggestion to remove her large intestine, Rachel knew there had to be a better way. By focusing on her gut health as the root cause of her health issues, she was able to heal herself and is incredibly passionate about educating and helping others realize the huge role our gut plays in our overall health. Rachel founded her virtual functional medicine nutrition practice to help others heal and live a life of abundance.

In this episode, Rachel shares her “why” that drives her forward every day. Instead of letting her past define her and continue the dysfunction she was raised in, she used it as fuel to propel her on her mission of making the world a better place by educating others on what it takes to truly feel their best. We live in a society that does not put nearly enough emphasis on what it takes to be truly healthy and feel great. As Rachel says, we have a health industry that doesn’t pay attention to food, and a food industry that doesn’t pay attention to health. Mental issues are at an all-time high, and we are a very medicated and unhealthy society. Tune in to hear Rachel’s passion and explanation of why we need to take a root cause approach and take a look into what is going in our gut instead of trying to put bandaids on all our symptoms.

    Key highlights:

    • Why Rachel chose to focus on the gut
    • What it means to take a “root cause” approach
    • Rachel’s story of dealing with anxiety, hair loss, major bloating, and being given the diagnosis of IBS and a bunch of medication that didn’t help
    • The problem with Western medicine not addressing the root cause and just treating symptoms
    • Microbes in our gut control everything: mental health, hormones, skin, etc.
    • Why is gut health important?
    • What is dysbiosis?
    • How bacteria in our body affects our hormones
    • What about food sensitivities?
    • What is the most optimal diet?
    • What Rachel's diet looks like on a daily basis
    • Rachel’s thoughts on fasting
    • What Rachel believes has lead to her success
    • Abundance vs. wealth
