The Ones Who Live - Episode 2

The Ones Who Live - Episode 2

Happy Wine Wednesday! Candi is back this week to discuss episode 2 of "The Ones Who Live" entitled "Gone." We talk about Michonne's journey to find Rick and appreciate that despite encounters with human dangers like Negan and the Whisperers in the main series, we find her still open to new people. We also discuss her decision to withhold information about RJ from Rick.

Of course, we had to celebrate the amazing performance by Matthew Jeffers as Nat.  We praise Jeffers' performance and talk about his amazing chemistry with Dana Guirira, which is likely due to the two having prior acting history together.  Speaking of  chemistry, we loved all of the kissing and reconnecting between Richonne in this episode.  And we unpack our frustration with the character who threatened our favorite couple this week - Jadis, the wild card.

Thanks so much for listening! We will be back next week to discuss episode 3.  Friendly reminder - we drink, we know things, we use adult language, and we have a great time.

Happy Wine Wednesday! Candi and I kick off our coverage of The Ones Who Live this week with a discussion of the premiere episode. We enjoyed it and we are so happy that the writers didn’t make us wait several episodes to see our favorite couple on screen together again.

Friendly reminder: we drink, we know things, we use adult language, and we have a great time!

We’ll be back next week to discuss episode 2. In the meantime, don’t miss our episode dedicated to Richonne. You can find it here.

    Ships Ahoy: The Richonne Episode

    Ships Ahoy: The Richonne Episode

Happy Wine Wednesday! In anticipation of the premiere of "The Ones Who Live" AKA the Richonne spinoff, Candi is back this week to discuss everything we love about this ship.  And on a programming note, we will be doing episode-by-episode coverage of "The Ones Who Live".

For this very special Richonne episode, we start off by talking about the characters individually and what we like so much about them.  From there, we get into all things Richonne.  We share the moment when we first started to see the romantic potential for the duo, the buildup to the pair becoming official, and where the writers left them at the end of The Walking Dead.  Of course we talk about the Grimes family as a whole and some of our favorite moments with them and we each share our favorite Richonne episode.

Friendly reminder - we drink, we know things, we use adult language, and we have a really great time.  Thanks so much for listening!

Cool Story Guys S01E40: Jumbo-Sized Season Finale Jamboree

Cool Story Guys S01E40: Jumbo-Sized Season Finale Jamboree

We celebrate the end of our first season with a big discussion of the last two chapters and an imaginary casting session for the inevitable big-budget TV series or film adaptation. Other topics include areas where we wish we could get a do-over, some alternate book names that didn't quite make the cut, and how our fantasy story slowly morphed into a collectivist screed about how billionaires shouldn't exist.

The Walking Dead Pilot - Days Gone Bye

The Walking Dead Pilot - Days Gone Bye

Friendly reminder - we drink and we use adult language!

Don't want to hear us shoot the shit? Skip ahead to the 18:14 mark for the start of our discussion on The Walking Dead.

Happy Wine Wednesday! We are back with something new this week - The Pilot Project.  The Pilot Project is a special series of episodes in the same vein of our Does It Hold Up series.  In the Pilot Project, we will watch and discuss the pilot episodes of a variety of shows from the wildly popular to the cult classics.  We are kicking off the series this week with the critically acclaimed pilot episode of The Walking Dead entitled - "Days Gone Bye."

This episode was lots of fun to record because Kristine is a newbie to the franchise and Jocelyn is 9 seasons in on The Walking Dead's zombie shenanigans.  Before we get into Days Gone Bye, we shoot the shit a bit. Kristine asks Jocelyn about her recent attempts to date in the times of COVID.  We also pay our respects to brilliance of Michael K. Williams.

From there we head to Georgia and join Rick Grimes on his journey into the zombie apocalypse.  We share our overall thoughts on the episode and explore whether the pilot lives up to its reputation as being a master class in horror television.  We talk about the brilliant use of silence in the pilot and the genius of Greg Nicotero's work on creating the zombies.  Kristine enjoyed the pilot, but she isn't quite ready to become a horror fan and she had a lot of questions about Rick's decision making.  We share what we liked about the pilot overall, as well as the sh*t we did not like.  Duane and Carl are undoubtedly precious, but the performances from the child actors behind these characters left a little to be desired.

Next, we get into the pilot and explore the decisions made by the characters.  Would you have taken in Rick Grimes?  If you were Rick Grimes would you have taken so long to put on clothes around Morgan and Duane?  How about Rick's choice to put on his work uniform instead of regular clothes? We had lots of thoughts on all of these questions.  We also talk about Lori moving on after assuming Rick died and making the choice to do so with Shane.

We're talking about the zombie apocalypse so of course we had to get into our own personal escape plans.  Kristine will be staying with friends while Jocelyn heads out to the family farm.  We also talk zombie apocalypse weapons and Jocelyn urges Kristine to rethink her initial choice of weapon.  We then discuss the challenges of dealing with loved ones while trying to survive and whether we would be able to make the hard choice to "put down" our reanimated loved ones.

We then shift to our thirst segment, which was a little light this week given the lack of actual live characters in the episode.  We do a quick round of marry, f*ck, kill and then discuss the complications of sex during the zombie apocalypse.

The episode closes out with a spoiler segment in which Jocelyn gives Kristine a complete rundown on what happens with the characters we were introduced to in Days Gone Bye.  We give lots of notice of the spoiler segment in case you want to avoid them.

    Until next time!

The Walking Dead, 10 Seasons In The Books And 1 To Go (Finally Talking About My Feel-Good Show!!!) Part 1

The Walking Dead, 10 Seasons In The Books And 1 To Go (Finally Talking About My Feel-Good Show!!!) Part 1

It might be a day late but definitely not a dollar short in the latest episode of Nick Nack Goes To The Movies!  One of the shows/movies I have been meaning to talk about for ages finally gets its due here, I am of course talking about the AMC zombie drama, The Walking Dead.  10 seasons of gore, depression, action, and some nice heartfelt moments once in a while too, I guess.  But there was to much to pack in here with almost 200 episodes so this is just part one covering Andrew Lincoln's trip through the streets of Atlanta, a cozy farm, a not as cozy prison, random roads, and eventually, a full on suburb with huge walls.  All while trying to avoid being eaten by zombies and in rare cases, people.  Seasons 1 to 5 are on full display talking my favorite parts that I can really sink my teeth into, and yes, the parts that leave me a bit brain-dead.  The tangents are aplenty on this road, and even though we don't get to talk about the new season 10 finale with more masterful acting by Jeffery Dean Morgan as Negan in "Here's Negan".  But we will get to that in part 2.  And I can talk about Jon Bernthal, Michael Rooker, Norman Reedus, and Michael Cudlitz long enough to fill up this episode.

So come chat about your favorite zombie movies, or let's talk about your favorite, or not-so favorite characters, episodes, or seasons of The Walking Dead.  Hit me up on social media at either @NickNackMovies or @NickNack_IC on Instagram, Twitter, and Tik Tok.  The hottest or most hilarious takes in the Nick Nack Mail Bag will be shared on next week's episode!  And keep an ear out for all the time I can fit in Once Upon A Time talk in this weeks episode, that ABC show will have to be an episode one of these days too.
