#28 Boro's 1996/97 season - 3pts deducted, two cup finals and one relegation - Deserted Island Matches with Tom Flight

Host Carl Jones is joined by Tom Flight, author of 'Yer Joking Aren't Ya? The Story of Middlesbrough FC's 1996/97 Season' and huge Boro fan to find out which matches he'd take with him to a desert island.

With the caveat that he can only take games from 1996/97, it's a bittersweet trip back down memory lane for even the most balanced Boro fan as the Teessiders record one of the most remarkable seasons in English top flight history.

We break down the summer transfer flurry of superstars, the thrilling start to the season, the infamous postponed game with Blackburn in December that would reverberate through the remainder of their season and the multiple trips to Wembley in two domestic cup campaigns that would ultimately end in tears.

In between chatting Boro, we find out which cult defender Tom would choose to attempt to rescue him from the island, which matches not involving Middlesbrough remain lodged in his memory and who the best Brazilian attacker in the Premier League era is in his opinion - see if you can guess...

#24 Extra Time with Neil Cox

#24 Extra Time with Neil Cox

Host Carl Jones is joined by former Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Bolton and Watford defender Neil Cox to deep dive into a career with more than 600 professional appearances.

From being integrated into the first team squad aged just 13 at his hometown club Scunthorpe United to a unique transfer fee to Villa Park and the top flight in 1991, Neil's career path is a fascinating one.

Part of the Riverside Revolution, as Middlesbrough signed off at Ayresome Park by winning the First Division title, he was a key member of the Boro side that reached both cup finals and suffered relegation thanks to a points deduction in 1996/97. We discuss that and how his bust-up with Fabrizio Ravanelli led to him meeting Pele.

We also chat about what it's like to play in a final day relegation decider, his vastly different relationships with Graham Taylor and Gianluca Vialli at Watford, and his own move into the dugout as Assistant at AFC Wimbledon - what were those first meetings with MK Dons like?

#10 Deserted Island Matches with Rob Fletcher

#10 Deserted Island Matches with Rob Fletcher

Host Carl Jones is joined by Middlesbrough fan and author of the fantastic new book 1992: The Birth of Modern FootballRob Fletcher.

We discuss Rob's brilliant new book, breaking down some of the key events that happened in 1992. As well as the launch of the Premier League in the domestic game, there were changes afoot in the format of the European Cup, huge transfer sums being exchanged abroad and even adaptations to the rules of the game that would contribute to 1992 being a truly seismic year for football around the world.

In between this, Rob chooses a selection of memorable matches from Middlesbrough's back catalogue and beyond (1996/97 features heavily), selects a few games he'd rather forget and explains why he'd need Roy Keane to join him on the island in a blonde wig. You'll have to listen for context on THAT one...

Rob also helps select the Premier League's greatest ever Angolan and ponders whether a year like 1992 could once again be just around the corner for the beautiful game.

#4 Extra Time with Brian Deane

#4 Extra Time with Brian Deane

In the first episode of a new feature, host Carl Jones is joined by former Sheffield United, Leeds United, Middlesbrough, Leicester, Benfica and England international Brian Deane.

We discuss scoring the first goal of the Premier League era, the move to Leeds United, the feeling of being dropped for a Wembley cup final and the motivation behind the move to Portugal and Benfica.

We also hear about his very differing opinions on two former Premier League managers he worked with, what it felt like to pull on an England shirt and the words of wisdom he received as a young player during a period when he doubted himself.

We also find out who you voted for as the Premier League era's greatest Algerian from last week's show - see if you can guess...
