    135. When You're In A Rut

    135. When You're In A Rut

In this week's episode When You're In A Rut, I wanted to get really real with all of you. As I have found myself in a rut since Christmas, I thought right now might actually be the best time to record an episode on: how to help ourselves get through being in a rut. I have 10 tips that I share with you today.

    1. Run to Rest, Not Avoid: The importance of intentional rest rather than using it as a means to avoid tasks.
    2. Don't Compare: Don't compare oneself to others, as people often don't show their struggles.
    3. Don't Judge the Rut: Accept your current state without self-judgment.
    4. Balance Patterns with Novelty: Highlights the significance of introducing novelty into daily routines.
    5. Talk to Someone: The value of vulnerable and honest with others.
    6. Zoom Out: Encourage you to view the bigger picture beyond the immediate challenges.
    7. Get Present: Advise against dwelling on the past or worrying about the future.
    8. Save Big Questions for Later: Suggest postponing major decisions or projects until in a better mental state.
    9. Set Minimum Goals: Recommend setting achievable daily goals to maintain a sense of accomplishment.
    10. Be Patient and Compassionate: Urge patience and self-compassion, emphasizing that ruts are temporary.

When you find yourself in a rut, please be kind to yourself and maybe try implementing one of my strategies for helping yourself through being in a rut.

    133. And That Includes You

    133. And That Includes You

I recently taught Relief Society on a conference talk titled "We Are His Children" by Elder Christophe G. Giraud-Carrier. I invite you to think of how you see each member in your family. How you might see and perceive each other. All of the dynamics involved. I extend this concept to our relationship with our Heavenly Parents and the rest of humanity. Explaining how the same dynamics can apply on a broader scale.

Drawing from Elder Carrier's talk, I share examples of individuals who were seen differently by others than how our Heavenly Parents saw them. I also emphasize the importance of recognizing that our Heavenly Parents see us differently than how we see ourselves or how others see us.

Through this discussion, I want to encourage all listeners to reflect on how you see and perceive others in your lives. As well as how your see yourselves. By recognizing the unique perspective of our Heavenly Parents, I believe it can help shift our own perceptions and enhance our relationships with others.

    131. Your Own Dicken Christmas Carol

    131. Your Own Dicken Christmas Carol

In this episode, we explore the concept of the three versions of ourselves - past, present, and future. The inspiration for today's episode came from watching the movie "Spirited" after Thanksgiving. This movie has a modern take on Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol. The movie follows a similar storyline, where Ryan Reynold's character is visited by ghosts who try to redeem and change their ways.

To honor and appreciate our past selves. Be grateful for your past selves and acknowledge that you wouldn't be who you are without them.

We then move onto our present selves and future selves.

Overall, this episode explores the importance of honoring and appreciating each version of ourselves - past, present, and future - and I want encourage listeners to practice gratitude for their past selves and find joy in the present and hope for the future.

    127. Thought Ladders

    127. Thought Ladders

In this episode, we explore the concept of "thought ladders" and how they can help us shift from negative thoughts to more positive ones. Remembering that our thoughts create our feelings, which in turn drive our actions and create our results. So, if we have a negative thought like "my life is a mess," it can lead to discouragement, self-judgment, and a feeling of being stuck.

However, simply trying to replace this thought with a positive one like "I love my life" may not be effective if the negative thought is deeply ingrained in our minds. Our brain is like a well-worn highway, and it takes time and effort to deconstruct that highway and create new pathways. That's where thought ladders come in.

Thought ladders are a series of gradual, baby thoughts towards a new thought that we want to believe. Instead of trying to make a drastic leap from negative to positive, we take small steps that are easier for our brain to accept. For example, if we start with the thought "my life is a mess," a ladder thought could be "I have a life" and then to "some people love their lives," "some parts of my life have been good in the past. Maybe I can again." To, "I love my life sometimes." These thoughts open up a little more hope and possibility, and as we continue to believe and practice these ladder thoughts, the old negative thought naturally dissolves away.

Thought ladders work because they allow our brain to move in the direction we want to go. But at a pace that is more manageable. It's difficult for our brain to make sudden shifts from one extreme to another. So taking small steps, helps us gradually shift our perspective. Additionally, these ladder thoughts help us feel emotions that are more useful and productive.

Overall, thought ladders provide a practical and effective approach for changing our thought patterns. And also creating a more positive mindset. Small steps and gradually shifting our perspective we can move from negative thoughts to more empowering ones. Which ultimately improving our feelings, actions, and results in life.
