Clutch - La NBA is back !

Clutch - La NBA is back !

    Interview with Mobley

    Interview with Mobley
Along with Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Mobley over Zoom video!

Austin-based artist Mobley grew up all over the world, from the Spanish Mediterranean to the California coast. Perhaps it’s because of this itinerant childhood that he finds it so hard to sit still. Mobley does it all: he's a songwriter, producer, visual artist, filmmaker, and a charismatic frontman with a reputation for kinetic live shows. He’s composed dozens of pieces for stage and television (HBO, FOX, NBC, ESPN), and played hundreds of US and international tour dates (with the likes of Phantogram, JUNGLE, Cold War Kids, and James Blake, and at festivals including Lollapalooza, ACL, Voodoo, and Hangout).

Mobley wrote most of his forthcoming record, "Young & Dying in the Occident Supreme," while in Thailand, finding inspiration as an outsider looking in on his own country from a different vantage. "Young & Dying" is a sonic critique of white supremacy, a theme Mobley felt even more urgently while not in the United States. The record glides between musical idioms with all the ease you'd expect from someone who grew up a perennial new kid, with Mobley at turns cribbing Ennio Morricone, keening over a psychedelic gallop, or indulging in a futuristic art rock strut.

"Young & Dying in the Occident Supreme" via Last Gang Records is out now.

Human Intelligence. Simplifying Complex Problems with Cheryl Mobley of Recalibrate.

"That mindset that says 'One right answer'? You have to pull back and re-examine your assumptions: there is MORE than one right answer."

(#94). Think your problems are too big to solve? Think again! Recalibrate CEO Cheryl Mobley impressed us so much with her presentation at a past ENGAGE conference that we had to sit down with her one-to-one to talk Human Intelligence, career future-proofing and about how the phone in your pocket could help unleash your creative problem-solving skills.

    • How do we fight the urge to jump in quickly to face a problem, when we SHOULD be stepping back and taking the time to SOLVE it creatively?

    The Brain on improv

    The Brain on improv
Here at work is the master of improvisation on the piano - Keith Jarrett. The video below from Charles Limb looks at what is actually going on inside the brain during such a performance. The thesis is "can we really study this level of creativity scientifically". i.e. can we work out how it happens and code a machine to do it? I think not.... Enjoy

Musician and researcher Charles Limb wondered how the brain works during musical improvisation -- so he put jazz musicians and rappers in an fMRI to find out. What he and his team found has deep implications for our understanding of creativity of all kinds.

Classic 60′s Jazz Part One: Joe Henderson, Lee Morgan and Hank Mobley

Classic 60′s Jazz Part One: Joe Henderson, Lee Morgan and Hank Mobley
By Jose Reyes The 60 ‘s was full of pioneering music in all facets of sound but this change took place in the middle of the decade. The most popular of all was the modern Rock n’ Roll sound. But there was a revelation also in the Jazz scene. Although it was more traditional than Rock n’ Roll it was rather new. You can say it was a sort of extension of Hard Bop because most of the musicians were from the Hard Bop era and were very young at the time it officially started. The Hard Bop era ran from 1955 to 1965. After 1965 the term Avante Garde officially started, supposedly. Although I appreciate all the different Jazz eras, I personally love the Hard Bop the most but I love the Avante Garde era just as much. So I seem to be stuck between both. And anyone else would be also, since some songs from the late 50′s are very similar to ones from the late 60′s. I feel that it was just a slow transitional change and both eras overlapped. Nevertheless, the quality never changed, it was and still is the best music ever. I truly feel I could say this because of my wide range of taste. I appreciate all types of music and had the opportunity to hear them but I feel and in my opinion, that there are no more talented musicians than Jazz musicians. I always appreciated Jazz but never studied it. Now that I have begun to and believe me, I’m in the early stages, now I am appreciating it even more. These Cats are the best. Maybe because of how old fashion I am at heart and because I value tradition to its fullest, I need to fight to keep it alive. This outstanding form of music is only listened to in a very limited manner because the radio stations around the world simply do not play it. The internet has helped quite a bit but still its not enough to give it justice. I am trying to help in my own little way by promoting CD albums by way of Blogtalkradio.com. This way people can hear its beauty and purchase the music. I have to say, I’m not the best host ever, so bear with me. Just concentrate on the music, give it a chance and you will realize exactly why I devote so much time to promote it. But then again, I’m having a ball listening to it.....Continue Here
