48: The Intuitive Eating Myth busted with Evelyn Tribole
The “Myth Busters” Series
This week we spent an entire episode on the term “intuitive eating.” We know it is quite the buzzword in the anti diet world today and is frequently used (and misused) on social media, so in this episode we are busting some of the common myths we hear about intuitive eating such as: “Intuitive eating means eat whatever I want, whenever I want it,” “If I give myself unconditional permission to eat, I will never stop,” and “Habituation means to binge on the food until I’m sick of it.”
We are going to give you the official definition of intuitive eating from the book by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch, give you a brief summary of the original message of intuitive eating and principles associated, and discuss how fear based thinking drives these myths.
We are honored to have the amazing co-author herself, Evelyn Tribole, join us this week to bust these myths with us and remind us about how a relationship with food and a releasing of diet culture messaging and body fears is a key component to making peace with food! Evelyn also speaks to parents on how to avoid power struggles at the table and how to heal the family diet legacy by embracing the belief that “all bodies are worthy of dignity and respect, we don’t gossip about bodies and the same with food. We don’t denigrate foods and we don’t reify them” (Evelyn Tribole, Ep. 48). If there are any questions you have about how to become, and raise, intuitive eaters, this episode is for you!

47: The Sugar Myth busted with Hannah Robinson and Ali Eberhardt
The "Myth Busters" Series
Today we are going to be giving some love to an often exiled food group - sugar. Poor sugar...it is cursed at, drooled over, bemoaned, and craved. It never gets the neutral love that it so deserves! And the reason why is exactly the myth we are busting today, which is…….”eating sugar is unhealthy for you.”
In this episode we do a brief history lesson on how sugar has been viewed throughout time, address the myths about sugar addiction, and discuss how the diet mentality of labeling sugar as bad impacts us physically and psychologically. We also interview the super fun co-hosts of the Let Us Eat Cake podcast, Hannah Robinson, RD and Ali Eberhardt, RD about the differences in types of sugar, how our brains react to sugar, and how to find peace in our relationship with this culturally scorned but scrumptious food!
