Ella Sobhani is a high school senior from San Diego, California, and the founder of an impressive organization called Aquascope, focused on the SDGs, youth empowerment, and fostering an appreciation for science. The organization has had an international impact, and Ella speaks to our host, Erik Novak, about founding and managing it, as well as managing her own time and commitments for school,  what the future holds for Aquascope, and what she learned along the way.

ComMUNiqué celebrates its 10th episode through a conversation between Erik Novak and Ayomide Ajakaiye, its scheduler and planner. They review the tasks and challenges with producing the first 10 episodes, and the valuable knowledge gained. Also, Ayomide describes her outlook on life as an 8th grader hoping to gain experience in diverse fields at a young age, and together they contemplate the duality of chance and purpose.

The Global Summit in July highlighted how international the Model UN community truly is, with participants registered from over 100 countries. To maximize the enriching potential of interacting with such a diverse set of individuals is no simple task, but one which three community leaders for the upcoming Global Summit 2.0 have faced head-on. These are Zoey Fisher (an 18-year old from Hollywood, Florida), Arsema Aklog (a 15-year old from San Diego, California), and Leila Ali Diab (a 17-year old from Cairo, Egypt). These young and energetic global leaders describe the power of engaging with youth the world over, the effect this has had on participants, and their plans to continue optimizing these experiences so members can come out with truly meaningful memories and a better understanding of how the diversity in the world is a force for good.

Join this exciting episode in which our host, Erik Novak, interviews successful entrepreneur and changemaker Sergio Fernández de Córdova. Sergio played a key role in establishing many initiatives around the Sustainable Development Goals framework for the UN, and has since also co-created the SDG Media Zone, a platform that leverages the wide-scale impact of digital media to advance and create awareness around the SDGs. Sergio’s experience leading the PVBLIC Foundation as its Chairman places him at the intersection between media and public-private partnerships, and enables him to opine on the SDG vision expertly and deeply. He is also passionate about youth engagement and explains what the role of the SDGs is for tomorrow’s generation. Sergio’s expertise and relevance shine through despite his humility and approachability, truly the mark of a leader.

MUN Impact’s growth and consolidation in 2020 is due, in no small part, to the phenomenal success of MUN@Home, an online asynchronous platform that teaches students about the UN Sustainable Development Goals while also helping foster connections and change-making networks the world over. Central to the growth of this important branch of MUN Impact is Jaideep Singh, its Secretary-General, who is a passionate public speaker, gifted moderator, and first-year chemical engineering student in Singapore. In this Part 2 of 2, he speaks about how MUN has shaped him as an individual, and how his chosen major and career path might intersect with his passion for this movement. The ways in which MUN affects the MUNer may be unique to each one, but the degree to which that influence shapes who they are is often tremendous, and with Jaideep, it is no different.

In July 2020, MUN Impact made history through its Global Summit, uniting students from over 100 countries in discussing the UN Sustainable Development Goals framework. Now, a remarkable precedent is being set again by the 4 intrepid leaders of the Global Summit 2.0. These are the 2 co-secretaries-general (Hugh McDowell (a 17-year old from Belfast, UK) and Aanya Srivastava (a 15-year old living in Doha, Qatar), head of secretariat (Farihah Ahmed (a 16-year old from Dhaka, Bangladesh) and deputy head of secretariat (Ilyes Zeraiki (a 15-year old living in the United Arab Emirates). Focusing on applying the SDGs, and not just learning about them, this second edition of the summit will feature social entrepreneurship incubators, investment pitches, and other unique activities to evolve the Global Summit brand beyond theory and discussion and into tangible effects in the wider world. It will be truly historic, and in this episode, our host, Erik Novak, engages with these 4 leaders to learn more about what is ahead.

Andrew Newman is the MUN Director at the John Burroughs School in St. Louis, Missouri. Today, he talks about his experiences with the "Century for the SDG's" campaign, where he and his co-Director of the John Burroughs MUN program biked for one hundred miles (about 160 km) to raise awareness for the SDGs and money for MUN Impact. The novelty of the campaign led to traction among powerful corporate partners, including Microsoft. Mr. Newman's charming personality and well-lived life experiences fill the episode with lively conversation and candor about what an educator's role in MUN has the potential of being.
