Different travel deals with clubs. How much should DJs make? Song selection>

What kind of deals are possible when you book an out of town gig? I go over the different contracts that I have signed in the past with nightclubs. I cover the different things that they pay for and what you can ask for. I touch on mixing in key and how I believe that song selection is the most important skill to develop as a DJ. Finally, I discuss how even though it would be great for a DJ to make a piece of the revenue of the nightclub, it doesn't make sense.

This weeks feature mix is a great driving mix. At first I thought the mix was a little mellow and wasn't showcasing enough technical prowess. Even though B. Mills has the skills, he makes the music the focal point of the mix. I decided to put this mix up for two reasons. 1. B.Mills hit me up and said "Hey, if you don't have a mix for this week, toss this up!" 2. It's a great example of track selection and how it can carry a mix. Dj Greg Groovez - Opening set for me at Slate New York

At the end January I played in New York. A club called "Slate" that really changed my mind about New York night life. The club is a big space with high ceilings and the vibe can be best described as "FUN." The resident DJ, Greg Groovez opened for me that night and he inspired me. Traveling for the past several years I haven't heard many opening sets that had such good programming. This may be the best song selection for an opening set I have ever had the pleasure of playing after. Keep in mind, it's impossible to recreate the feeling of the nightclub when you listen to this. The crowd, the mood, the energy, it's all missing when you just listen to the mix. You'll have to fill it in with your imagination. This is a live mix, there are volume drops and mic work. I went on right after the mix ends at around 12:45am.

Nightlife changes, World Battles, how I recover from a crash!

I got a little fired up for pieces of this podcast because I am on #TeamDJ and you’ll see what I mean. The nightlife scene has been changing and we all are witnessing smaller clubs and lounges and bars take over the space. I talk about how this will impact DJs and how to set yourself up for the next market cycle. While playing a gig, my computer crashed, what I could have done better and how I could have avoided it. Finally, I discuss World DJ Finals and other battle stuff.
