OFI 1961: Growing Thousands Of Pounds Of Vegetables For Charity | FFA SAE Edition | Lauren Schroeder | Calamus-Wheatland High School FFA

Lauren Schroeder is an amazing humanitarian, farmer and FFA student.  During Covid, when she was in the 8th Grade, she started volunteering in her community and made an observation.  She noticed that in the meals available to people there was no fresh produce.  The timing of this observation coincided with her beginning her FFA career and needing to develop a supervised agricultural experience.

Lauren decided to plant a garden and donate 100% of the production to those in need.  A very benevolent SAE was born.  Starting her 9th grade year, she planted 1/2 acre with a variety of vegetables, ultimately donating them to multiple different organizations around her community.  During the summer between her sophomore and junior year she increased her production to 1 acre and donated over 7,000 lbs of vegetables.  She has two summers left while she is in high school FFA and wants to increase production this year to 1.5 acres and finally 2 acres with a total of 20,000 lbs of vegetables.  It is an unbelievable story and goal, but she has proven that she can do it, and there is no doubt that she will!

The Becoming Podcast | Season 5; Episode 1 | Mara Glatzel on honour your humanity, radical self-responsibility and letting the soft animal of your body love what it loves

Wow!  I can't believe we're on season 5 of this podcast!  That is 4 years and 36 joyful episodes I've had the pleasure of sharing with you!

On today's episode, I welcome The Becoming Podcast's first repeat guest, my friend Mara Glatzel.  (You can listen to our first episode together here). If you don't already know Mara, she is an intuitive coach, writer, and podcast host. She is a needy human who helps other needy humans stop abandoning themselves and start reclaiming their humanity through embracing their needs and honoring their natural energy cycles.

Here's some of what Mara and I talked about in this episode:

    >  The publication of Mara's book – and a sneak preview into how she's attuning to her own energy + seasonal cycles as her February 28th launch date approaches.  Mara beautifully models how tending to your needs and celebrating your successes is an evolving endeavour that even the "masters" among us will always be ever-mastering.

    > Grappling with the tension being "professional" and also being a human and caring for humans with oh-so-very human needs, and how it's a political statement to show up just as we are.

    > How seeing others' humanity begins with seeing, validating and tending to our own humanity.

    > Radical self-responsibility:  the fact that you are the person most intimately familiar with your needs, and are therefore the only person who can really advocate for those needs to be met, by yourself or by those around you.

     > And a little treat for you at the end!

I hope you enjoy listening to this episode!   I'm so delighted to shout Mara's work from the rooftops because I think it's the foundation to any life transformation made well.

    I Need You, Lord

    I Need You, Lord

Sometimes I feel like God does not like His children to be needy. I've discovered that God loves when I call out to Him, "I need You." Too often I add words to that phrase which are about telling God what to do: "I need You to..." This podcast will help you to realize your need for God and to keep Him as your number one resource. Campfire Chat

Dr. Jonny shares what he learned from his family while sitting around the campfire this weekend. He was delighted and inspired by his children sharing their perspective on caring for the poor and needy. The Bible is clear that the poor belong to us as followers of Christ, and we don’t need government hand-outs to meet the needs of those around us. Generosity is a core heavenly culture and we can tap into His unending resources.

The Tragedy Of Trying Too Hard - MTP259

The Tragedy Of Trying Too Hard - MTP259

A couple of episodes ago we talked about how we can be our own worst enemy. But upon reflection, we left out one of the most devastating--and common--ways we do that. I'm talking, of course, about trying too hard. Do men, especially so-called 'nice guys', do this more than women? If so, why is that? Can it really be as simple as because men do EVERYTHING to impress chicks? But what are the ways that women tend to try too hard? Why do people think this works to attract people, when the weird psychological effect is the exact opposite? Instead of pushing people away, how can we PULL them in magnetically instead? And what's the difference between needy approval seeking as opposed to simply being too damn perky, upbeat, enthusiastic or optimistic? Why do people persist in trying too hard, even when they already realize they're 'pushing it uphill' and their efforts are doomed to failure? And what's up with men's tendency to try logicking women into liking us? Women often say they 'want a man to pursue them', but how is that different than chasing in desperation? Of course, no discussion such as this would be complete without straight talk on when to actually give up. 12: Who is My Neighbor?

    12: Who is My Neighbor?

After being cooped up in our homes and away from others for such a long period of time, many of us may be looking for ways to get back out there and help those in need. Who are these "others?" Are they our neighbors? How can we help them most right now? Are their needs more than they were prior to COVID?

In this episode we talk with the Executive Director of the Mooresville Christian Mission, Amy LaCount, to ask these very questions. She shares some important insights for us as we begin seeking ways to truly help and show love to our neighbors in need.

    Show Notes

Amy LaCount has a strong professional background working to alleviate poverty both in local communities as well as in developing countries around the world. She has a deep passion for helping those in need, which stems from growing up in Kentucky where she saw poverty first-hand.

Amy holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Education and a Masters of Science in Safety, Security and Emergency Management from Eastern Kentucky University.

Amy lives with her husband Shane (Deputy Chief of the Mooresville Fire Department) and children Avery and JP. She and her family enjoy spending time outdoors, especially in the mountains of North Carolina. “I love all of God’s children and genuinely enjoy meeting people right where they are,” she explained. “My life and work experiences have taught me that we are not to ‘fix’, but to learn and empower each other.”

    Ep 995 – Deuteronomy 26:12-19

    Ep 995 – Deuteronomy 26:12-19

Love for God. Love for others. Both of these things were to be considered non-negotiables for the people of God. And as Moses prepared the nation of Israel for their imminent entry into the land of Canaan, he wanted them to understand just how important it was that they care for the needy among them. To claim a love for God while ignoring those less fortunate in their community, whom God had made, was nothing less than hypocrisy. Deuteronomy 26:12-19 contains a powerful reminder regarding God’s law concerning the offering for the Levites, the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow. These individuals had been designated by God to be the recipients of a special offering that was to be collected every third year and distributed on an as-need basis. The neglect of these four groups would be viewed as a personal affront to God. They were near and dear to Him and He had provided for them by blessing the rest of the community with more than they needed.
