In the northeastern portion of the United States, specifically South Jersey and Philadelphia, there is a legendary creature known as the “Jersey Devil”. Many variations exist, but common descriptions tell of a leathery bat-like winged creature, kangaroo-like, with horns and small arms, clawed hands, and cloven hooves. It’s high-pitched, “blood-curdling” scream stops you in your tracks. What is the story of this evasive monster?

One stormy night in 1735, Mother Leeds gave birth to the devil's baby, who flew up the chimney into New Jersey's Pine Barren forest- where he has lived and terrorized ever since! This week we have some fun with the legend of the Jersey devil. Was he a poor unfortunate baby, doomed by his mother's absent-minded curse? Was he the son of the Prince of Darkness? Was he an elaborate prank invented by locals to keep tourists out of a pristine forest? Was Benjamin Franklin a douche? We'll answer at least one of these questions, and many others, as we share our thoughts on this infamous local legend. Elise treats us to a boo-tiful gourmet pop tart (see what I did there?) and we both share our strong opinions on a Hollywood blockbuster that neither of us have seen. Join us in our countdown to the most magical night of the year, and get in the Halloween spirit!

Our Curious Cocktail this week is the Jersey Devil:

• Ingredients:
  • 1 part Cranberry Juice
  • 2 parts Apple Cider
  • 1 part Lairds Applejack (from NJ!)
  • Garnish with an apple slice
• Mix the liquids together, chill, and serve with an apple slice. This also makes a great punch
