Cobi Levy and Will Makris, Prince Street Hospitality

Cobi Levy and Will Makris, Prince Street Hospitality

When COVID hit, Lola Taverna in New York’s SoHo neighborhood had only been open for a few months. The world had stopped, and Cobi Levy and Will Makris, the duo behind Prince Street Hospitality, had to pivot. They turned Lola Taverna into a communal gathering spot, offering takeout food with chairs to rent (the money went to first responders). Utilizing the park next door, they served up to 250 people a day. It helped them survive those uncertain pandemic days, and when restaurants were finally able to reopen, Lola Taverna was on everyone’s mind, with a waitlist on the weekends that numbered up to 4,000. Today, their portfolio includes seven restaurants in New York and Miami, with Alba on the boards in Los Angeles, the pair’s first foray to the West Coast.

A Visit to Margaritaville with Chef Natalie Cohee

A Visit to Margaritaville with Chef Natalie Cohee

When Jimmy Buffett penned the song Margaritaville, it was a fun tribute to a laid-back lifestyle and a tequila-based cocktail. Little did he know, 44 years later, there would be an entire chain of Margaritaville resorts, 24 of them, in fact, in 21 cities and seven countries. The newest one opened earlier this summer in midtown Manhattan, “an island oasis amid the bustle of the world’s busiest city.” Overseeing all five restaurants at the space is Chef Natalie Cohee and she joins guest host V Spehar to share what life’s like at the urban resort. Did we mention there’s a rooftop pool? And a statue of the Statue of Liberty drinking a margarita?

Join us for this virtual visit to Margaritaville. Thank you to Free People for supporting this episode. Check out the Cherry Bombe x Free People Summer Supper Club on YouTube

Radio Cherry Bombe is recorded at Newsstand Studios at Rockefeller Center in New York City. A transcript of this interview will be available later this week on https://cherrybombe.com/radio-cherry-bombe

199 | Sam Eckstein and Jordan Feldman of Springbone on Simple Cooking, Working with a Best Friend, Conflict Between Taste and Wellness + more

I sure love a good wellnessy cafe where I can order everything from avocado toast to chia pudding to a Reishi mushroom tea but what I love even more is a good story. Today's guests Jordan and Sam are long best friends and co-founders of Springbone a cafe I discovered just a couple weeks after moving to NYC and soon became a regular at. Springbone specializes in simple, natural food that blends taste and health with ease in every recipe. While I came in for the coconut milk soft-served I stayed because the founders Jordan and Sam were the nicest.  Being super new to the city, the two native New Yorkers flooded me with suggestions of places I'd like all over the city. We shared an interest in simple cooking that didn't sacrifice taste for health and I was curious on how they went from working in finance and real estate to starting their dream business . All my questions and more were answered on this week's episode. We had a tangental conversation as usual where we covered working with your best friend and tips on how to keep both the friendship and business strong as well as their advice for  being an entrepreneur in a field you aren’t an expert in. We discussed what health and wellness means to them, their thoughts on family, relationships, and spirituality. I loved talking to them and I'm so psyched to hang out with them more and hopefully you at our podcast meet-up at Springbone this week, RSVP here

179 | Chef Chris Zabita from Society Cafe in New York on Farmers Markets, Creative Cooking, Picky Guests, Experimenting with Food + more!

My boyfriend and I spoke in person with executive chef Chris Zabita at his NYC market to table restaurant Society Cafe a couple weeks ago. We talked about everything from picky eaters to cooking for yourself as a chef to the competitive nature of the restaurant industry.  Since moving to New York I’ve been recording most of my interviews in-person and I’m loving it because it allows way more intimacy than Skype can, hopefully you can feel that and it's a welcome change to the show. I’ve also been exploring the plethora of restaurants in the city Cafe Society being one of them. This interview was a blast to record and I hope you enjoy eavesdropping on this candid conversation.  Chef Chris gave us a look into what it is like to be a chef, how he feels about popular foodie trends, how he feels about picky eaters modifying his dishes, and much more.
