This week on The Current Report, we tackle advertising on live sports. As football season is upon us and streaming viewership grows, advertisers are equipped with better tools to advertise on live sports streaming platforms. Plus, recent crackdowns on password sharing are paying off for streaming giants and advertisers. In other news, Google's trial with the U.S. Department of Justice is underway, and Nielsen offers a new free ad-supported television (FAST) platform.

Sandy Utah Willow Creek Stake leaders on serving ‘in the world, but not of the world’

The night before His crucifixion, the Savior washed His apostles' feet, taught them and administered the sacrament. He also prayed for them, saying, as recorded in John 17:  “I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world…As thou hast sent me into the world, even so, have I also sent them into the world.” This episode of the Church News podcast features leaders of the Sandy Utah Willow Creek Stake talking about efforts to serve “in the world, but not of the world.” Stake President Joseph A. Staples, Stake Relief Society President Terri DeJohn and former Stake Young Women President Lisa Nielsen share how connecting to their neighbors through friendship, love, service and events has strengthened their neighborhoods and community, as well as their commitment to emulate the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

      Røvere på Christopher Nielsen-utstilling

      Røvere på Christopher Nielsen-utstilling

Elder S. Gifford Nielsen on the Black 14, feeding the hungry and healing communities, with guest host Sheri Dew

In 1969, 14 members of the University of Wyoming football team were unfairly dismissed for asking to participate in a peaceful racial protest in a game against Brigham Young University. A half-century later on Sept. 24, 2022, two members of the group, now known as the “Black 14”, ceremoniously lit the Y on the mountain above BYU’s Cougar Stadium. At their side was Elder S. Gifford Nielsen, a General Authority Seventy and former BYU quarterback. Elder Nielsen joins this episode of The Church News podcast to talk about how the Church has partnered with the Black 14 to heal that community rift while feeding the hungry, his newest assignment as president of the Church’s Africa West Area, and how examples of Christ-like leadership continue to shape his life today. He is joined by fellow BYU alumni Sister Sheri Dew, executive vice president of Deseret Management Corp. and a former member of the Relief Society general presidency, as guest host.

A Swinging Pendulum of Digital Ad Fraud | Uphoff on Industry

A Swinging Pendulum of Digital Ad Fraud | Uphoff on Industry

      The Big Themes:

      • The stats, yet with so little scrutiny: Machine, also referred to as bot-related ad revenue, was $81 billion in 2022 with projections to increase to 100 billion in 2023.
      • Machine or bot accounts inflate financials: If Twitter or Facebook decided to take down all of the fake accounts, they would have to restate their earnings.
      • Dealing with a completely different mindset: Companies and executives realize they will be judged by their ability to harness technology to transform their businesses.
      • Thought of the day: We are now hitting an inflection point based on the unbelievable power of cloud infrastructure, applications and tools and the agility that it gives these companies. What is technology enabling us to do to dazzle the customers and make more money?

The Big Quote: "I think the part that analysts are probably missing that links directly to the market is, I think you need to go upstream as an analyst and understand how companies are deploying modern technology today, as a part of your analysis of their financial performance."
