The True Cost of Attending NYFW w/ Elise Gasbarrino

The True Cost of Attending NYFW w/ Elise Gasbarrino

"I think we have this really romantic view of what working in fashion is like... so like, are you really cut out for this? Do you really want this?"  - Elise Gasbarrino

Fun fact: You don't have to be a millionaire, a member of the press, or someone "important" to experience all that NYFW has to offer. @elisegasbarrino, @style_canada's Editor-in-Chief, confirms it.

We asked you earlier this week via Instagram if you were curious about what it truly costs to attend NYFW—being that it's "fashion month"—and you replied with a resounding yes. So, host @anastasiabarbuzzi invited her dear friend and former colleague, (you guessed it, Elise!), onto the show.

Having just returned from NYFW herself, Elise takes you BTS and gives you her best tips & tricks for everything to do with the industry's biggest, baddest, most dreamed about event. From getting in to shows to budgeting for brunch, she's got you covered. This ain't her first rodeo.

Plus, Anastasia and Elise chat working at the likes of Oscar de la Renta and Burberry, working together at STYLE, starting out for future hopefuls, and so much more.

Lara Eurdolian: Beauty industry before influencers

Lara came to NYC to attend FIT. She was an OG beauty blogger and influencer before that was a thing and talks about how that industry has changed. She lived in NYC for the past 18 years. Unlike the quote, she didn’t feel like a New Yorker in 5 minutes but more like 5 years. She has seen how the fashion and beauty industry has changed over the years. She compares NYFW to other fashion weeks in other cities and how NYFW has changed over the past 10 years. She explains the epitome of a New Yorker through amazing New Yorkers like Patricia Field who styled Sex and the City and the Devil wears Prada to name a few. Lara shares tips on how to move to New York from the neighborhoods to subletting and find your place in the city.

    Phillip Lim

    Phillip Lim
Sewing Threads of Courage... A new decade brings ambitious plans and inspires creative evolution. For fashion designer Phillip Lim, this couldn't be more true. As his beloved brand, 3.1 Phillip Lim enters its 15th year, Lim is not resting on his laurels. This week at New York Fashion Week, 3.1 Phillip Lim will forgo their runway show in favor of a "house party" at their New York City retail location, using the shift as a springboard to reclaim spontaneity and focus on sustainability. He has always been concerned with the potential footprint of his company and wants to operate a business that is equally focused on the customers he serves as the world they live in. Lim speaks much about the need for spontaneity in his brand and creative process, and his independent spirit consistently portrays this. SCAD is proud to call Lim a friend and honored him with the Etoile Award in 2019. In this episode, Paula Wallace and Phillip Lim examine Lim's career though his upbringing and family life, and how that's affected his creative process through his life.

#76: Serena, NYFW, The Yoko Effect

Well, what a week. Zan and Myf digest the event at the Women’s Final of the US Open, the many think-pieces following it, and then that cartoon. New York Fashion Week has Myf glued to her screen for an iconic collection, and in the wake of Mac Miller’s death we look at the backlash against his ex partner Ariana Grande. Why are women demonized in toxic relationships? Oh and we have BIG news for our Bang Fam in Melbourne.
