#206 - Dr. Indigo Willing: War Orphan, Sociologist, Skateboarder, Change Maker.

Dr. Indigo Willing is a Vietnamese war orphan, sociologist, skateboarder, and co-author of the book; Skateboarding, Power and Change. This week, Dr. Indigo joins me for an in-person conversation about her intriguing life so far. We discuss her early years growing up in the northern suburbs of Sydney with her adoptive family, experiences of racism, why she was drawn to academia, the reality of “survivor guilt", her passion for community development, being awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) and then resigning from the award, why skateboarding organically becomes an inclusive space, the future of skatepark design, skate-able cities, the fellowship she is embarking on with Sydney University, and much much more.
Darren Kaehne sits in as this week's guest co-host.
Dr. Indigo's journey is one of purpose,  advocacy, kindness, empathy and equity.
Pure skateboarder, powerful change agent, blessed human...
Enjoy getting to know Dr. Indigo Willing.

Soft skills are hard with Gavin Blakey

Soft skills are hard with Gavin Blakey
Gavin Blakey talks to us about the 3 pillars (or the 3 legged stool as he calls it!) every engineer should know.
He discusses that when you have true gender diversity in engineering, suddenly those soft skills aren’t so hard. And he is an engineer who has experienced and witnessed such equality on engineering projects.
But how can more women be enticed into engineering? Gavin discusses this with us.

Get ready for World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development on 4 March
All February Engineering Heroes will be releasing episodes with 17 engineers as they discuss what each United Nations Sustainable Development Goal means.
