    Romans 11-13 | Who are God's Chosen People? and Should I Obey the Government?

    Romans 11-13 | Who are God's Chosen People? and Should I Obey the Government?

    What if you could decode the language of the Bible to deepen your understanding of God's relationship with humankind and apply these teachings to your everyday life? Join us on an enlightening journey through the book of Romans as we unearth the significance of Romans 11, 12, and 13. We explore the intricate connections between God, the Jews, and Israel and reveal how Jesus is the linchpin in fulfilling God's promise to Abraham. Every believer, Jew or Gentile, is part of this divine lineage. But beware, rejection of Jesus, regardless of heritage, could lead to disconnection from God.

    As we navigate Romans 12, we focus on Paul's teachings about harnessing spiritual gifts and functioning as a unified body. We also shed light on the importance of our relationship with the government in Romans 13. It's a walk-through scripture that promises to enrich your perspective, reaffirm your faith, and guide you toward a harmonious relationship with God through Jesus. If our podcast resonates with you, drop a rating and a review. It's not just an episode; it's a journey of faith. So, gear up and join us as we explore the wisdom of God's word.

    In Romans 11, Paul discusses the intertwined destinies of Jews and Gentiles in God's plan of salvation. He speaks of Israel's partial hardening but emphasizes that God has not entirely rejected His people. Using the analogy of an olive tree, Paul explains how Gentiles have been grafted in by faith while some Jewish branches were removed due to unbelief. He warns against Gentile pride, reminding them of their dependence on God's grace. Paul also foresees a future restoration for Israel, emphasizing the depth of God's wisdom and knowledge, which surpasses human understanding.

    Within Romans 12, Paul delves into practical Christian living. He urges believers to present themselves as living sacrifices to God and emphasizes the transformation of the mind. Paul highlights the diversity of spiritual gifts within the Christian community and encourages their use for the collective good. He stresses the importance of authentic love among believers, emphasizing humility, harmony, and service. Paul instructs them to bless those persecuting them, live in unity, and overcome evil with goodness.

    Romans 13 addresses the Christian's relationship with governing authorities. Paul emphasizes the need for submission to these authorities, established by God for order and justice. He stresses the importance of obeying the law and living honorably as an expression of one's faith. Paul encourages believers to love one another, stating that fulfilling the law is encapsulated in the commandment to love your neighbor. He highlights the urgency of righteous living in anticipation of Christ's return, urging believers to cast

    Children of Abraham, children of promise

    Children of Abraham, children of promise

    While most people studying the Bible recognize that God made covenants with Abraham, they misunderstand or overlook how Abraham’s relationship with God came about. To begin with, God simply made seven promises to Abraham before any covenants were enacted.

    Genesis 12:1-4 Now Yahweh said to Abram, "Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father's house, To the land which I will show you;

    1. And I will make you a great nation,
    2. And I will bless you,
    3. And make your name great;
    4. And so you shall be a blessing;
    5. And I will bless those who bless you,
    6. And the one who curses you I will curse.
    7. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed."

    So Abram went forth as Yahweh had spoken to him; and Lot went with him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

    At this point, no covenant was in place; God simply promised that all of these things would come about. Here the Bible tells us that Abraham simply believed in these promises of the one true God. This is the exhibition of faith that Abraham is primarily remembered for. Understanding this principle is key to how the apostle Paul would use this simple faithfulness of Abraham later on in his letters to illustrate faith in Messiah.

    Galatians 3:16, 29 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, "And to seeds," as referring to many, but rather to one, "And to your seed," that is, Messiah ... for you are all one in Messiah Yeshua. And if you belong to Messiah, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise.

    The physical covenants and genealogies were for physical blessings for Abraham's fleshly descendants through Jacob. They were necessary and proper until the fulfillment of the promises and covenants in Messiah. From Yeshua’s time on, genealogies would no longer be necessary, since they had served their purpose of identifying Abraham's ultimate "seed," Messiah. Physical covenants related to blessings of the land would also no longer be necessary, as the children of Abraham would be defined by their simple faith in God’s Messiah. And this would not be to gain or prosper in a specific, physical land but to live in an eternal, universal Kingdom covering the entire earth.

    Those who exhibit this faith in God by believing in his Messiah, just like Abraham's elementary faith, will be counted within the idiomatic expression of believers spanning many ages, known collectively as "children of Abraham." These are the ones whom, like Yeshua taught, will "come from east and west, and recline at the table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven," (Matthew 8:11).

    Romans Chapter 11 Part 3

    Romans Chapter 11 Part 3
    We are going to study what oftentimes is a very confusing passage. And you should know why it's confusing why people do not understand it or interpreted properly. And that is because Paul gives some illustrations and these illustrations, one of which is based upon the festivals of the Lord, those festivals that we read about primarily in the Book of Leviticus and chapter 23. Olive tree planting in Palestine

    Olive tree planting in Palestine

    For this episode I joined the olive tree planting in Al Khadr, organized by the Keep Hope Alive campaign that is run by the JAI. (Joint Advocacy Initiative of the East Jerusalem YMCA and the YWCA of Palestine)

    I interviewed several people on the field, some of the organizers and participants of the planting day. We talked about the threats that Palestinian landowners experience from expanding settlements, violent settlers and the army who are after the Palestinian land, trying to take it by force or in legal procedures. If land is not planted and exploited then it is easier for the Israeli settlers and the State to confiscate it through legal ways. That's why most Palestinians are planting olive trees. The trees do not need as much care as agriculture crops or grape vines, so even if they don't have regular access to their land due to the Israeli restrictions, walls and checkpoints, the olive trees have a larger chance to survive.

    Mary and the Tree of Life

    Mary and the Tree of Life

    One of the most beautiful symbols that the heavenly messenger sheds light on for the Tree of Life dream in 1 Nephi 11 is the vision of Mary, the earthly mother of Jesus.

     In fact, it is the very first vision symbol that the messenger brings to the attention of Nephi. Why is that? And why do we regularly give it a brief, cursory glance in our gospel discussions?

    In this podcast episode we take a broader look at the Tree of Life and what it has represented in both the Bible, ancient religions, and the Book of Mormon.

    Signs of His coming - be ready! - Audio

    Signs of His coming - be ready! - Audio
    This is Joe Papineau's first teaching at Calvary Prineville. He starts by giving his testimony and how the Lord has worked in his life, and then moves to teach the end of Mark 13 - the Olivet Discourse - which he is also teaching in Paulina. Jesus teaches there are definite signs of His coming, although no one knows the exact hour. People don't agree on End Times interpretations be he's OK with this. When it happens, we'll know. There are two separate aspects of Jesus' return, separated by some amount of time. The first, Jesus returns for His Church in a "normal" world. The second, He returns with His Church as Conqueror to judge the world, which by now is gripped in the Great Tribulation. We don’t know when, so we need to be ready, alert and eager. Allow the Lord to use us.

    Discussion of the Prophet Zenos’s Allegory of the Olive Tree and how it is a clear witness of Jesus Christ and His love for us. On the contrary, Sherem who is anti-Christ, is deceived into denying Christ and experience death as a result of it. In addition to the covered chapters, this lesson also draws from (i) Moses 1:39 and (ii) a speech by Truman G. Madsen called "The Olive Press."
