PM: Unlikely Samantha Murphy Will Be Found Alive

PM: Unlikely Samantha Murphy Will Be Found Alive

The Quicky evening news update for Friday February 3rd 2024.

    1. Police say they are investigating if missing Victorian woman Samantha Murphy’s body has potentially been moved as they reveal it is unlikely that the 51 year old will be found alive.

Ms Murphy left her Ballarat East home for a jog on the morning of February 4 and hasn’t been seen since, the detectives investigating the case saying they are keeping an open mind about her disappearance but that the most likely scenario is that it involved one or more parties, ruling out a medical episode and with nothing to indicate that she left the area on her own accord, leaving them to believe she has possibly been killed and that her body has since been relocated..

The lead detective wouldn’t say how many suspects they are currently following up but clarified that her Husband Mick was not one of them at this stage.

    2. A currently serving police officer has been taken into custody after presenting himself to investigators looking into the disappearance of former channel 10 reporter Jessie Baird and his Qantas flight attendant partner Luke Davies.

The 28 year old handed himself in at the Bondi police station shortly after 10:30 this morning after calls from police saying they were looking for a third person who may have information to help them unravel what has happened to the pair, neighbours reporting loud arguments in Baird’s apartment Monday night before blood stained items belonging to both Baird and Davies were found in skip at Cronulla. That discovery led police to Mr Baird’s blood stained apartment in Paddington 30 km away.

Detective Superintendent Daniel Doherty said the man, who will be charged with two counts of murder, is the ex partner of Jessie Baird but that no motive has been established at this point, but that they have found a projectile that had been discharged that matched a police firearm and a white van, that is believed to have been used to transport the bodies of the two men after being hired on Monday night, has also been located although the bodies are yet to be found.

    3. Deputy opposition leader Sussan Ley has called for the Prime Minister to hand over his ticket to the Taylor Swift Eras Tour, saying he’s not a real Swiftie and should give it up for a true super fan.

Speaking to Seven’s Sunrise program Ley says what the PM does on his nights off is of course up to him, and if he wants to see Taylor Swift that’s cool but listening to those who couldn't get tickets ,she sent a message to Anthony Albanese to hand them over to a real Swiftie.

Mr Albanese says he’s looking forward to the gig and says he's already been given a bunch of friendship bracelets to prepare for the night.

    4. For the first time, the winners of the London Marathon, whether they are able bodied or not, will get equal prize money.

The wheelchair category in London was already one of the highest paid purses for a marathon in the world but from this year, there will be an increase of US $54,000 to the overall prize pool with the wheelchair winners taking home $55,000, second $30,000 and third $22,000.

the London marathon will be held on Sunday April 21 with three Aussies in the wheelchair category, including previous winner and defending champion Madison de Rozario

Please Look After These Bears: Pooh, Paddington, and More Bears of London

    Bears. Cute. Cuddly.

But when we looked at them through the long lens of London history, it got complicated pretty quickly.

Join us as we take the ursine plunge, and think about….

    • the bears that roamed Britain 7000 years ago
    • the Tower menagerie,
    • blood sports such a bearbaiting, especially popular during the Elizabethan period,
    • the invention of the stuffed bear and its significance in the Great War,
    • Pooh and Paddington, two special bears with London ties, and share unexpected commonalities

Plus, to kick off our exploration of underground and rail stations this year, we’re going to Paddington!

Our SHOW NOTES round out your listening experience, with photos, drawings, clips, links, sources, and more.

We also got the game awards last week, over 20 new games announced, most of which had no release dates, Baldur's Gate 3 was the big winner, no surprises. We also saw the announcement of several movies, and the release of several trailers for big upcoming sequels. Paul's Bio
Paul Longley is a comedy writer, actor and filmmaker who has worked professionally in the industry for over 10 years.

After studying "Comedy: Writing and Performance” at University (which Paul likes to think means he is “officially funny”), Paul has had notable roles in Film and TV such as: Call The Midwife, Lovesick, The Theory Of Everything, Hollyoaks, Lovesick & Allied.

During “the dreaded lockdown of 2020” Paul began a collaborative partnership with his brother, James, to create and film their own brand of sketches and comedy characters under the name “Oakmead Productions”.

Their sketches soon developed into a collection of comedy shorts and web series that have since gone on to screen across the world, win multiple awards and gain international acclaim and popularity for their originality, style and voice - as well as turning heads for their ability to create high quality content while always operating within their “zero budget approach”.

Among the highlights of his work, one would certainly be being invited to see “At Home with… Nick Mullins”, a mockumentary short about a non-league football referee, screen at none other than the House of Commons.

All of Paul and James’ shorts and sketches are available to watch for free on their website: www.oakmeadproductions.co.uk

#217: Rebel Wilson, Britney marries, Lizzo

#217: Rebel Wilson, Britney marries, Lizzo

Ooh it’s been a big week. Britney got hitched (a dream wedding with a dream reception guestlist), while Lizzo’s new single features a word we weren’t expecting to hear in 2022.

The outing of Rebel Wilson by a gossip columnist has dominated discussion; and made for some hot shoe shuffles and stumbles in the apology department. Meanwhile the dress Kim Kardashian wore to the Met Gala has been returned to the museum, but Marilyn’s iconic sheer frock is looking a little different.

And do you eat the salad when you get your parma? We investigate. We’re banging on about The Gilded Age too, and the Paddington movies.

    Paddington (2014)

Jason Furie loathes movies that feature half-assed CGI bipedal animals interacting in a live-action environment. Adam Roth is surprisingly ok with it. We dared our listeners to have us watch and review 2014's Paddington by using the hashtag #paddington4lyfe and we lost. In more ways than one according to Jason. Well, we watched it, and now we're reviewing it.
