Opening & ending music: Southern Love by Tencher Music

In this episode, Rev. Amber Mitts joins her wife, Rebecca, as Justin was unable to record this week. Amber goes in depth about how disability and accessibility is treated, preached, and lived in a rural church context. She discusses what she has done in her church to promote accessibility and advocate for the disability community, which could be helpful for other pastors (or lay leaders) who are unsure where to start. She also goes into what is happening on a broader scale within the Methodist church. We missed Justin this week, but I hope you enjoyed Amber's expertise and passion as much as I did! (Of course I enjoy it, she's my wife.)

Opening & ending music: Southern Love by Tencher Music

In this episode, potentially our last one of 2021, Rebecca and Justin get nostalgic about the holidays. We discuss our childhood traditions, our current ones, and the overzealous "Christmas cheer" that often leaves those who are in pain behind. The holiday season can certainly be a time of warmth, but for many (including Justin and Rebecca) there is a shadow wrapped up in it as well. We hope you all have a good holiday season, and know that we will sit with you if this isn't a time of cheer.

In today's episode, our guest, the Rev. Jonathan Campbell, joins Justin in deep and fascinating discussion about the Christian faith. They dive head first into justice work, righteousness, and what the church needs to be doing to do more then surface level ministries. Jesus' healing was not about a physical healing, Rev. Campbell says; it was about reuniting a marginalized person back into the community. Only when Christians can do the same, will be truly be healers like Jesus.

Spoilers for the first six episodes of "The Magnus Archives."

In our third episode of our horror media series, Justin and Rebecca look at the horror podcast, "The Magnus Archives," produced by the Rusty Quill. We discuss the first six episodes and how they tapped into different fears for both of us. From there, we go broader to discuss how TMA appeals to us by not using problematic horror tropes (some of which we discussed last week) that we have seen in other horror media. We end with telling each other some of our own fears that would really freak us out if they were put on the show. Stay safe out there folks, and try stay away from dark alleys that have mysterious creatures in them.

    Palsys With Palsies Episode Swap

    Palsys With Palsies Episode Swap

This week, Matt and Adam are joined by friends, Justin Hancock and Rebecca Mitts. We are doing something we haven't done in a while, a podcast episode swap! Justin and Rebecca are the hosts of a podcast called Palsys With Palsies where they share profound ideas about important topics in an approachable and accessible way. Today, they share with us Episode 11 of their podcast called, "The Gaze & the Dance".

"In this episode Justin talks about his experience with "the gaze," known in the disability community as being stared at by and interacting able bodied people who don't know how to inhabit the space with a person with a disability. He shares one the best experiences and some of his lousiest experiences with "the gaze." There is a social dance that happens whenever you meet someone different from yourself; so if you step on toes, don't keep stepping on their toes. Be curious, but not an a*****e."- summary from Palsys With Palsies podcast.
