EP 165 - Pandorum - Resident Evil in a Spaceship

The DOtD spacers wake up after 900 years and the first thing we decided to do was to review Christian Alvert’s “Pandorum”. We discuss the film’s titular affliction, its direct influence from Paul W.S. Anderson, and Dan is a downer about the ending. Spoilers in the hyperpods.

    2009 (Part 2)

    2009 (Part 2)

It's time for one of those huge episodes. Well, it's a four parter anyways. 2009 was a decent year for horror movies, well as long as your don't mind the French extreme, torture porn, the found footage explosion, j horror and a glut of remakes. The highs are really high & the lows are absolute trash. But, what do I think was the very greatest horror movie that came out during 2009? Well, here we have the top 10. The worst 10. A slew of also rans. Some awesome mates. Some special guests. Several pints of beer and a 6+ hour running time split over 4 episodes. This is 2009, A Year In Horror.

It's a pretty long journey this one, part 4 of 4 in fact. I am going to give you the time codes below so if you don't want spoilers then, please, avert your eyes.

Below are the timecodes for all the different segments and my guest links. Feel free to let me know where you think I got it wrong or right and of course stay safe out there & I'll see you next month.

    • 0.34 - Also Rans (Part 2)
    • 11.31 - Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars (w/ Dave Ingram)
    • 47.02 - Triangle
    • 55.54 - {REC}2 (w/ Niki Jones)

    S07E10: Pandorum

    S07E10: Pandorum
Author and critic Zack Handlen made the mistake of offering to return for Pandorum, 2009's "what if we stuck a bunch of grimy Jell-O to some warehouse walls and filmed a live-action 'Space Madness' meets Event Horizon" sci-fi. The movie starts out well -- good atmospherics; good partner chemistry between Quaid and Ben Foster -- but as Zack notes, most of the interesting stuff happened before the movie started. And after we find out the enemy isn't a giant snacky space arachnid, well, it's a tough sit. (How tough? We measured its length in, variously, feet of blanket knitted, Lego kits assembled, and online games of Risk played.) Surrounded by the detritus of the other, better properties Pandorum tried to rip off, we talked about confusing ship layouts, Virtuosity, which member of Roxette wrote Nadia's dialogue, Quaid's search for emotional truth, and why hypersleep pods in the future come with tooth-whitening strips. Oh, also what the hell "pandorum" actually is. It's the QIF season finale, so tell Scotty the PA to douse your cleavage in melted licorice and join us! Episode Eight: Silent Stars, Breathless Screams (Event Horizon, Pandorum)

Episode Eight: Silent Stars, Breathless Screams (Event Horizon, Pandorum)

This episode, Jeff and Dylan and, their very first special guest, Pam from Cannot Be Tamed and Point and Drink Adventure, take a trip into the outer wilds and find out what's lurking in the vacuum of space with a pair of space spookems, with Pam bringing Paul W.S. Anderson's Event Horizon and Jeff bringing Christian Alvart's Pandorum.

Will Pam will ever reveal where she learned so much about bone saws?

Will they all see eye to eye or will it be complete Pamdorum?

    Episode 08: Pandorum

    Episode 08: Pandorum

Welcome to Screen Tea Podcast! Join Lisha and Juliet as they laugh/cry/yell their way through their dissection of a...just...it's not a good movie, guys. It made, like $20. Listen to Juliet's amusement ratchet up to 11 as Lisha rages about BULLSHIT ENZYMES and WINDOWS ON SHIPS, GODDAMMIT. Also, they talk about Ben Foster, who is a shining star (jellyfish? They're apparently the same fucking thing) in this at-times-enjoyable mess. Come pull up a pod and settle in for a good old fashioned massacre.

BY THE WAY. JULIET DRANK LEMON GINGER TEA. IT'S IMPORTANT, AND IT WASN'T TALKED ABOUT BECAUSE LISHA GETS DISTRACTED BY ADJECTIVES, WE GUESS.
