PART 3: DJ ROME goes to the movies and provides his take on A THOUSAND AND ONE starring TEYANA TAYLOR, and SPINNING GOLD-The story of CASABLANCA RECORDS and its charismatic figurehead NEIL BOGART. Lastly, posthumous tributes are paid to Oscar-winning music composer RYUICHI SAKAMOTO ("The Last Emperor" soundtrack) and animator LEO SULLIVAN who not only was a major artistic contributor toward historic animated shows such as "Heckle & Jeckle", "The Flintsones" and "Richy Rich", he was also the animator behind the animated locomotive that opened the weekly legendary music program "SOUL TRAIN".

Dame Angela Eagle has been the Labour MP for Wallasey in the Wirral since 1992. When her sister Maria was elected as Labour MP for Liverpool Garston five years later they became the first twins to sit together in Parliament in modern times, and later they became the first twins to be Ministers of State in the same government. Angela held a variety of posts under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, including wide-ranging responsibilities as the first Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury. She has also been a long-serving member of the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee. But most importantly, she is a lifelong cricket lover. She shares her memories of playing and watching cricket, and her wider reflections on the interplay of sport, gender and politics as the guest of Peter Oborne and Richard Heller in their latest cricket-themed podcast.

Dominic Cummings’ seven hour session in front of a parliamentary committee, pouring bile on the heads of both Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Health Secretary Matt Hancock, has given them plenty to talk about.

The Three Old Hacks, aka  writer and broadcaster Mihir Bose, Economics Editor of the Sunday Times David Smith and political commentator Nigel Dudley have worked with both politicians in their long careers as journalists, and for them the Cummings testimony has the distinct ring of truth.

Meanwhile Nigel’s dog Alfie is getting jealous of all the attention Britain’s first dog Dilyn has been attracting.

Political leadership ain’t what it used to be. That’s the theme of this week’s Three Old Hacks,

We all think the summers were warmer (demonstrably not!) and life was rosier when we were young, but the Three Old Hacks put forward a pretty strong case that politicians in Britain are not of the same calibre as those who have gone before them.

Boris Johnson says we are facing the biggest challenge since the Second World War with the pandemic, but where is the Recovery Plan to get us out of the hole it has dumped us in? Where’s the Beveridge report and the Bretton Woods of the 2020s?

Sports journalist Mihir Bose, Economics editor of the Sunday Times David Smith and political commentator Nigel Dudley also miss the characters of their early days learning their craft together as professional journalists.

Remember George Brown, who served as Foreign Secretary in the Labour Government of the 1960s? And the exchange with the Bishop of Lima? ‘No I won’t dance with you. This is not a waltz but the Peruvian national anthem and you sir are drunk!’ or words to that effect.

Halloween is a time where we can, with good friends around, face some of our fears. In this episode we will hear some scary stuff. Don't worry though, we haven't forgotten the treat.

We start with the terrifying world of water.

Maude Barlow is the national chairperson of the Council of Canadians, and activist and an author.  Recently she launched the final installment of her trilogy on water, the book Blue Future. She spoke to a packed house in Ottawa earlier this month and this is some of what she had to say. Get the whole thing here.

Cancer is frightening. Yet when women get breast cancer there is, it seems, a cultural pressure to emphasize optimism and delegitimize anger. Emilia Nielsen is a sessional faculty member and ph.d candidate at UBC candidate whose research focuses on breast cancer narratives and feminism.
