    Moosehead Down

    Moosehead Down

A hard-hitting, brilliant, well-regarded scion of the community is bludgeoned so viciously his brain winds up spilled onto his back.  Who murdered the great man is not the question...The police know for sure it was the quiet, unassuming only son to the exclusion of all others.  But are they right?

    E191: Charlie Brandt

    E191: Charlie Brandt

Even veteran law enforcement were both shocked and disgusted by the gruesome sight of the three bodies discovered on September 13, 2004 in the home of Michelle Jones in Maitland, Florida.  Despite the bloodiness of the scene, it was clear who the perpetrator was. What is unclear is whether the crime could have been prevented had different actions been taken years prior.

S11, E3: One Disappointment From Murder: Chandler Halderson
Yeah, it sucks to disappoint others, but sparing them the disappointment by murdering them doesn’t really make it less bad. It makes it far, far, worse. Find out what this person did that was so bad, they had to kill to hide it. This is the story of Chandler Halderson.

Weird Annie, the killer housewife of Bemmel- Part 1

Weird Annie, the killer housewife of Bemmel- Part 1

On the first of May, 1962 market farmer Piet Evers dies suddenly after drinking a cup of coffee. 'A weakness of the heart' say the doctors. But in his hometown of Bemmel, the Netherlands, tongues are starting to wag... Piet's daughter Annie is... weird. Not very nice at all.

Maybe she had something to do with it?

A few years later Annie is arrested for the murder of her father and she ends up confessing to the crime a whopping fourteen times. She also retracts her statements twenty times.

So... Is weird Annie a cold blooded killer or was she convicted because the village thought she was ... weird?

And then.... there's another murder. This time it's Annie's mother and guess whose clothes are covered in mum's blood...?

311 - The Murder of Dee Dee Blanchard: Did She Have It Coming?

311 - The Murder of Dee Dee Blanchard: Did She Have It Coming?

In June of 2015, 48-year-old Dee Dee Blanchard was murdered in cold blood. Her murderer snuck into her bedroom at night and stabbed her in her sleep... seventeen times. A brutal crime. But, based on how Dee Dee had treated her daughter Gypsy Rose, was her murder justified?

For twenty-three-year-old Gypsy's entire life, her mom had been telling others she was sick. And convincing doctors and other medical professionals she was sick. And she wasn't. Nevertheless, she was paraded around in a wheelchair because she supposedly couldn't walk, and her head was shaven because she was supposed to have cancer, and on and on. Gypsy Rose was a victim of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, a rare mental disorder where a caregiver convinces someone that they are sick when they're not, and convinces others they are sick, often for financial benefit. Always for attention and control. Gypsy Rose was less of a daughter and more of a hostage, someone who'd been medically tortured for over decades. Can we really blame her for talking someone into murdering her oppressor so she could live free?

S2: Episode 20: The First Familicide in America- William Beadle

William Beadle would write in his journal: “I have lately had Sundry Intimations I really think from God, to convince me I am right but these I shall not define.” .. and then... he killed his family and himself.

271 - The Menendez Brothers: Parent Killing Sociopaths? Victims? Both?

271 - The Menendez Brothers: Parent Killing Sociopaths? Victims? Both?

I had a lot of fun on this one taking a nostalgic look at US culture in 1989 and 1993. Also found the story of Lyle and Erik Menendez incredibly interesting. Why did two brothers viciously murder their parents with shotguns in the summer of 1989? Erik was about to enroll in UCLA. Lyle was attending Princeton. Their parents spoiled them with money for lavish shopping trips, vacations, fancy cars, condos, and more. They grew up in affluence. Their parents lived in a Beverly Hills mansion that Michael Jackson and Elton John owned at one time. But, their parents had recently gotten frustrated with their continual mistakes - breaking into the homes of neighbors and stealing jewelry, destroying school and country club property, getting suspended from college for plagiarism, and on and on. And they'd threatened to cut them out of their inheritance. Is that why they killed? For money? Or, had they been so traumatized by years and years of sexual abuse that they felt like they has to kill their parents to defend themselves? Find out today on another true crime edition of Timesuck.

The Strange Case of Lizzie Borden

The Strange Case of Lizzie Borden
Lizzie Borden is known to most as an American woman who was tried and acquitted of the grisly murders of her father and stepmother. More than 192 years later, the crime continues to fascinate us. The evidence of hideous transgression, carried out with excessive strikes from an ax, indicated a clear-cut verdict. Yet Lizzie was acquitted. The details of the case are remarkable. EP87: The Diabolical Stew of Human Remains

EP87: The Diabolical Stew of Human Remains
In 2016, Joel Guy, Sr. (“Mike”) and his wife, Lisa, were planning on retiring and moving from the hustle and bustle of their lives in Knoxville, Tennessee to a quieter life in rural Surgoinsville, Tennessee. The couple invited their family to celebrate one last Thanksgiving in their Knoxville home before their move. The next Monday, when Lisa failed to show up for her last day of work, her co-workers called the police to make a welfare check. When police showed up at the house they found what prosecutors would later describe as a “diabolical stew of human remains.” Their killer left a four-page detailed journal of the brutal premeditated crime. Listen to this week’s shocking episode to hear all the horrific details of one of the most brutal crimes in the United States' recent history.

Inside The Twisted Van Breda Family Murder

Inside The Twisted Van Breda Family Murder

The Van Breda family appeared to be the perfect picture of success. So how did three of the five family members end up murdered in their family home on the De Zalze estate in South Africa?

Martin Van Breda was an entrepreneurial, hardworking and kind man. His wife Teresa was a loving mother, heavily invested in the lives of her three children; Marli, Henri and Rudi.

In 2014, the family sold their home in Buderim, on the Australian Sunshine Coast, for 2.5 million dollars and returned to their native South Africa, where they moved into a home in a gated community.  The golf estate in Stellenbosch where they resided, was said to be one of the safest places in the country.

But one night in January 2015, everything went terribly wrong.  Paramedics would respond to an emergency call in the early hours of January 27 to find a crime scene they would describe as the worst of their careers.

Three people were dead. One was clutching to life. And another had sustained serious injuries.

The emergency operator was told there had been a home invasion but there was so much more to this story.
In this episode we speak to South African journalist and author Julian Jansen, about the case that has become known as the De Zalze, Van Breda Murders.

Julian has written about the attack in his book The De Zalze Murders, The Story Behind The Brutal Axe Attack, and covered the case as it was unfolding in South Africa’s high courts.

    Give Me Murder #26 - Halloween's Cancelled

    Give Me Murder #26 - Halloween's Cancelled

It's our extra double special (or whatever the hell I say in the episode) Halloween episode!  We wanted to pick something extra gruesome and weird that took place around Halloween, and boy did we do that, we also rambled a lot but hey ain't this whole thing really just a bundle of fun?  Murder is bad, look it up.  This episode is about a small town in Ohio where a grisly double murder took place in 1995 which prompted the whole town to cancel all Halloween related activities that year, to avoid Satanists, it's pretty interesting.
