    S1E10: [10] A Dynasty Derailed

    S1E10: [10] A Dynasty Derailed

After raising the 17th banner to the rafters of the Boston Garden, the Celtics were the heavy favorites going into the 2008/2009 season. A series of injuries over the next few years, including a February night in Utah where Kevin Garnett landed awkwardly trying to finish off an alley-oop.

In 2010, a rematch with the Lakers, but another injury - this time to Kendrick Perkins - led to the C's squandering a lead in Game 7.

The years that followed included the dismantling of "The Big 3", with Ray Allen controversially signing with LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade in Miami. The team talks openly about Allen's disappointing departure.

Pierce, Garnett and Doc all left the following summer, with Danny Ainge hitting the reset button once again in pursuit of the team's 18th championship banner.

Also, the Duckboat Parade that Doc Rivers promised Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen becomes a reality.

With the "Big 3" in place, Danny Ainge now looked to add other pieces to what was considered a serious contender for the upcoming 2007/08 season. Insert Eddie House and James Posey.

Following adding the pieces together, it was now Doc Rivers task to get a collection of veteran All-Stars, critical young players and the entire organization on the same page. The introduction of a single word resulted in a strong bond and mindset for every player on the roster.

    S1E3: [3] Assembling the Big 3

Despite finishing the 2006/07 season with the second worst record in the NBA, Danny Ainge and the Boston Celtics once again missed out on any sort of luck in the NBA Draft Lottery, and a chance at selecting Kevin Durant.

Ainge turned a lower pick and several up and coming young players into two perennial All-Stars. The Celtics President of Basketball Operations was also able to hang on to a key piece that would pay tremendous dividends towards raising a banner.

Bonus Episode: The Players' Tribune Presents My Generation with Paul Pierce

This week R2C2 takes a break to present a special bonus episode highlighting a new short-run Players’ Tribune short-run audio series, My Generation. In the spirit of no-nonsense sports talk from the player’s perspective, Ryan and CC hand off the mic to Paul Pierce, who, after 19 years in the NBA, knows a thing or two about the game of basketball — and is not afraid to openly share his thoughts on the experience. During his tenure, Pierce has observed both advancements and regressions in the sport — from larger salaries and endorsement deals to the end of rivalries and the rise of the Internet superstar. In this episode, Pierce chats with Shaquille O’Neal, who is vocal about a league he thinks has become soft and lacks an abundance of nicknames. He also sounds off on why the big man position in the NBA has changed so much. Listen to more episodes of My Generation on theplayerstribune.com.
