Classical Music Spotlight - Carmina Burana for Wind Band
This wind band arrangement of Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" is entirely instrumental in concept, the vocal music having been fully incorporated into the band itself. The throbbing rhythms, chaste tenderness and heartfelt simplicity of the original are fully captured in John Krance's exhilarating transcription. Arthur Bird's "Serenade" won the Paderewski Prize as the best chamber work by an American in 1901. Herbert Owen Reed's "La Fiesta Mexicana", subtitled "A Mexican Folk Song Symphony for Concert Band", depicts a religious festival dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
