Episode 145: Disrupting Maternal Mental Healthcare with Dr Shama Rathi of Lunajoy

Episode 145: Disrupting Maternal Mental Healthcare with Dr Shama Rathi of Lunajoy

On this episode of the MoneyfitMD podcast, we explore the critical issue of maternal mental healthcare and the ways in which it is currently failing mothers and their families. We discuss the barriers that prevent women from accessing the care they need and the devastating consequences of untreated maternal mental health conditions.

Joining us is Dr. Shama Rathi, a board-certified psychiatrist and co-founder of LunaJoy, a digital health network that provides personalized and comprehensive mental health care to women throughout their life span.

Dr. Shama Rathi and her sister-in-law Sipra Laddha, also a psychiatrist, realized that there was a significant gap in mental health resources and support available for women during vulnerable transitions, such as pregnancy and postpartum. With the pandemic accelerating the mental health crisis, they decided to start a digital health network that would enable women to easily access personalized and comprehensive mental health care from home.

LunaJoy is focused on providing mental health care to the 33 million women in the U.S. who experience depression, anxiety or other mental health disorders. They offer virtual mental health care clinic for women throughout their life span: puberty, pregnancy, postpartum, infertility, miscarriage, perimenopause, menopause, and aging. The company provides specialized in-network therapy, psychiatry, medication management, and group coaching, with the sessions covered by insurance.

By addressing the critical issue of maternal mental healthcare, Dr. Shama Rathi and her team at LunaJoy are making a significant impact on the lives of several women and their families.

If you or someone you know is struggling with maternal mental health issues, it's important to seek help. You can visit LunaJoy's website to learn more about their virtual mental health care clinic and how they can support you through the different transitions of life. Don't suffer in silence, there is help available.
