The Event High: Neuroscience, Motivation, and the Blueprint for Lasting Change

The Event High: Neuroscience, Motivation, and the Blueprint for Lasting Change

Welcome to another enlightening episode where we dive deep into a phenomenon we've all felt but rarely understood - the event high. Picture this: you're at a grand event, soaking in every word, feeling on top of the world. But a week later, that blazing fire within reduces to mere ashes. Why? Today, we're unraveling the mysteries of our brain, exploring why we lose that motivation and how to make it last. I felt compelled to share this episode because understanding this can be a game-changer in our personal and professional lives. Let's dive in!

    Key Takeaways:

    • The power of events and the unique energy they bring.
    • The neuroscience behind the event high: Understanding dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin.
    • The alarming rate at which we forget what we learn.
    • The AARC Blueprint for lasting transformation: Awareness, Action, Repetition, and Community.
    • The importance of community in our transformation journey.

Step-by-Step Process to Ensure Lasting Change:

    1. Awareness: Recognize the event high for what it is - a spark.
    2. Action: Implement one thing you've learned immediately.
    3. Repetition: Practice daily to reinforce new learnings.
    4. Community: Engage with like-minded individuals for collective growth.

    Notable Quotes:

    • "It's not about the spark. It's about the consistent flame that follows."
    • "True transformation is a marathon, not a sprint."
    • "One is not a big enough number for success."

Always remember, while events can ignite a spark within us, it's the daily actions, habits, and community support that truly fuel our transformation journey. Embrace the journey, stay persistent, and surround yourself with a community that uplifts and supports you.

    FAQs:

    1. What is the event high? It's the surge of motivation and empowerment we feel during significant events.
    2. Why do we lose motivation after events? Our brains are wired to retain reinforced information and discard non-essential data.
    3. How can we sustain the motivation from events? By following the AARC Blueprint: Awareness, Action, Repetition, and Community.
    4. Why is community important in our transformation journey? A supportive community bolsters our growth, provides insights, and helps us stay accountable.
    5. How often should we practice new learnings from events? Daily practice is key to reinforcing new learnings and ensuring lasting change.

Family Playbook: The Goal Line | Pastor Ben Feldott | Cape Cod Church

Family Playbook: The Goal Line | Pastor Ben Feldott | Cape Cod Church

As we continue our series “Family Playbook,” Pastor Ben Feldott talks about the three important goals—to decide what we value, create an environment to grow our values, and give the gift of faith.

As parents, we have an enormous influence on establishing the pathway to take for our family. Our family values start from us, go on when we enter a relationship and set off to have family—with kids and grandkids. Then, we live them off through generations.

This brings us to the place of how we set and decide on these values.

    ABOUT FLO GROBERG
Florent “Flo” Groberg is a native of Poissy, France and became a naturalized citizen of the United States February 27, 2001. Flo was a Varsity Track and Cross Country at University of Maryland College Park, where he graduated in May 2006 with a degree in criminology and criminal justice, and later his Master's in Management with a Specialization in Intelligence Policies.

Flo entered the Army in July 2008 and attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Ga. He received his commission as an infantry officer on Dec. 4, 2008. After completing Infantry Officer Basic Course, Mechanized Leaders Course, U.S. Army Airborne and U.S. Army Ranger Schools, he was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colo., as a platoon leader.

On the morning of Aug. 8, 2012, U.S. Army Capt. Florent Groberg served as a personal security detachment (PSD) commander for Task Force Mountain Warrior -- responsible for the safety of 28 coalition and Afghan National Army (ANA) personnel, including several principals: two brigade commanders, two battalion commanders, the brigade command sergeant major, a battalion command sergeant major and an ANA battalion commander.

The patrol's escort mission included moving on foot from Forward Operating Base Fiaz to the provincial governor's compound in Asadabad, Kunar, Afghanistan for a weekly security meeting.

As the patrol advanced toward the governor's compound, they reached the choke point along the route, a small bridge spanning a canal feeding the Kunar River. The patrol halted near the bridge as two motorcycles approached from the opposite direction. The motorcyclists began crossing the bridge, but stopped midway before dismounting and retreating in the opposite direction.

As the patrol observed the motorcyclists, Groberg also spotted a lone individual near the left side of the formation, walking backwards in the direction of the patrol. The individual did not cause immediate alarm as there were other local civilians in the area.

However, when the individual made an abrupt turn toward the formation, Groberg rushed the suspect and shoved him away from the patrol. Groberg then immediately confirmed the individual was wearing a suicide vest, and with the help of Sgt. Andrew Mahoney, a fellow Soldier with the PSD, grabbed the suicide bomber, physically driving him away from the formation and down to the ground.

While on the ground, the bomber's explosive vest detonated. The explosion caused a second suicide bomber, who remained hidden behind a small structure near the road, to detonate his vest prematurely. Most of the blast of the second bomber's suicide vest went straight into a building, adjacent to the patrol.

Groberg's actions disrupted both bombers from detonating as planned, saving the majority of lives he was charged with protecting. On November 12, 2015, Flo received the Medal of Honor for his acts of gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above the call of duty from President Obama.

Flo has continued his embodiment of the Warrior Ethos and Service to his Country with Leadership roles at Department of Defense, Boeing and Microsoft. Flo now serves as a Microsoft Sr. Director for Strategic Missions and Technologies and leads many of the mission solution outcomes used by our Defense Business Unit customers. Flo serves on numerous organizations that supports fellow Veterans, including the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation, President Biden’s American Battle Monuments Commission, Adaptive Training Foundation, Merging Vets and Players, and LinkedIn expanding platforms for outreach.

Episode 155: Luke 18 Part 1 Prayer and the Persistent Widow

Episode 155: Luke 18 Part 1 Prayer and the Persistent Widow
Jesus talks to his disciples about prayer so he uses a story about a widow who wanted justice toward her enemy and an judge who didn’t fear God nor does he care anything about people. He keeps refusing to listen to the widow but she is persistent. Instead of giving up, she continues to nag the judge until finally he gives in and she gets justice. Jesus said the judge finally gave in because the widow was getting on his nerves. Then Jesus tells his disciples that God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night. He asks, “Will he keep putting them off?” Then he answers, “I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly!” Though it may not always seem like it, God knows what we are going through, and it may seem like He doesn’t care or He is nowhere around, but He is right by our side the whole time. Nothing catches God by surprise and He knows every tear that falls from our eyes. And if we are persistent like this widow and continue to ask God for help, He will come through in His time.
