Depp Perception: West Memphis 3, River Phoenix, Hunter S Thompson

Depp Perception: West Memphis 3, River Phoenix, Hunter S Thompson
River Phoenix was hot dosed with 8x the lethal amount of a liquid speedball at Johnny Depp's Viper Room only 2 months after Depp opened. They made him die outside. But there's way more to the weird world of Johnny Depp, and Amber Heard isn't even a significant part of it. Was River Phoenix a Hollywood-Cult murder? Was Hillel Slovak of the Red Hot Chili Peppers a fame sacrifice?

Deadly Doses Chapter 30 Director Conor McMahon

Deadly Doses Chapter 30 Director Conor McMahon
Tonight we have in the studio a past master of Irish horror. Bursting onto the scene in 2004 with Screen Ireland's first funded horror DEAD MEAT in 2004, what followed next was a cornucopia of gore and guts channelled through his own unique brand of horror comedy. From the TV show ZOMBIE BASHERS in 2010, notable entries include STITCHES in 2012, FROM THE DARK in 2014, and the 2015 short STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT – which features one of the best love scenes in horror history between a banshee and a bogger, right up to the hilarious vampire horror comedy, LET THE WRONG ONE, we are delighted to welcome director Conor McMahon

    Films discussed include
LET THE WRONG ONE (Dir. Conor McMahon, 2022)
BAD TASTE (Dir. Peter Jackson, 1987)
EVIL DEAD 2: DEAD BY DAWN (Dir. Sam Raimi, 1987)

    Faithspotting "Get Back" Pt. 2

    Faithspotting "Get Back" Pt. 2

Mike and Kenny and guest Rev. Eric Folkerth continue their discussion of the Peter Jackson film Get Back documenting The Beatles writing and recording of the Let It Be album and rooftop concert.

This episode focuses on the eyewitness to the creative moments of iconic songs such as "Get Back", "Let it Be", and "Something". One of the fascinating elements is watching and knowing history is being made yet the Beatles don't.  In this episode are the seeds of everything in this closing era of The Beatles, the seeds of creation as well as their dissolution.

Next week the series concludes with an extended conversation of faith and theology spotted in Get Back

    Faithspotting "Get Back"

    Faithspotting "Get Back"

Kenny and Mike are joined by Rev. Eric Folkerth to discuss the three part Disney+ series Get Back by director Peter Jackson. In this, the first of three Faithspotting episodes Kenny, Mike and Eric discuss the film that uses restored footage shot while The Beatles were preparing an album, live show, and television program. Get Back offers a different look at this pivitol time in the history of The Beatles and culture, and offers a different narrative than set by the previous film Let it Be. It is as Mike observed, the 'Dead Sea Scolls of Rock and Roll."

With the resoration of the film and audio, the film looks like it was shot yesterday, and audio that was previously difficult to hear is now clear and the conversations between John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. The film also shows the work of others including Mal Evans, Glyn Johns, Neil Aspinall, George Martin, and director of Let It Be, Michael Lindsey-Hall.

Faith Notes and discussion will be included the third episode.

    The Beatles: Get Back Review

    The Beatles: Get Back Review

    Welcome to Episode 176

This week, outside of a little unrelated banter at the top of the show we're dedicating our time to The Beatles: Get Back (now streaming on Disney+). We're also joined by Quinton Roberts of the Reel Zodiac podcast. It wouldn't have been appropriate for us to not include Quinton on this one as he's the biggest Beatles fan we know.

We'll be honest that if you're not into the Beatles then this episode may not be for you. But this is a Peter Jackson film we're talking about here and there's a lot to be appreciated. Listen in as we talk about our favorite highlights and why this film is such an important piece of work.

We'll go ahead and put in a very rare (for us anyway) time stamp so that if you just want to hear the review you can.

    The review begins at 00:53:38:15

We want to thank Quinton for joining us this week. It's always a pleasure when he does. Be sure to subscribe to The Reel Zodiac podcast any where podcasts are heard.

We'll be back next week with Episode 177. Have a great week.

    The Lord of the Rings

    The Lord of the Rings

20 years ago this month, the first film in an epic trilogy premiered. Join us this week as Ashley, Ethan, and Scarlett celebrate Bilbo’s 111th Birthday Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings! In this episode we reveal embarrassing childhood obsessions, sexual awakenings, freak out about the most beautiful film score ever composed, and argue whether Dan is the best or worst person to take to Mordor. All jokes aside, give this one a listen and venture to Middle Earth with us to celebrate 20 years of love for the greatest fantasy series ever filmed.
