The new, improved me – courtesy of the EU-conform driver's license

For years, I suffered from the lousy picture I had taken for my German license, not knowing I would have this document for decades. Trying to rent a car, get into a night club or bar, or even just have breakfast in a government building in Washington turned into an embarrassing experience when I had to show my picture ID. But in the end, this old-fashioned, pink cardboard license had some unexpected positive side effects.

Remi Wolf: Korean BBQ + Banchan

Remi Wolf: Korean BBQ + Banchan

When soul/funk/pop artist Remi Wolf hopped on Zoom to chat with host Rachel Belle, she was getting ready to leave for a tour that would take her away from her LA home through October. So she was trying to eat every last remaining scrap of food in her fridge and pantry. Stars, they're just like us! Remi talks about her love of concocting meals from the wee bits and bobs hanging around her refrigerator and her disregard for planning or using recipes.

Before she was a professional singer, Remi was a junior Olympics skier and she developed some...interesting eating habits on the slopes. One snack was strange enough that Rachel reached out to the FDA to confirm/deny its safety.

And Irene Yoo, the Korean American chef and creator of Yooeating, joins the show to talk about banchan, arguably the best part of a Korean BBQ meal!

Carol Platt Liebau: Defending What We Value

Carol Platt Liebau: Defending What We Value

Manhattan and Washington, D.C. are two of the bluest cities in the nation.  And both make no bones about it: In order to qualify for the coronavirus vaccine in either place, you must show at least two forms of identification, proving age and residency.

This makes perfect sense. What doesn’t make sense is that neither city requires any ID at all for someone to vote. This is true even though a recent Rasmussen poll found that every key demographic supports photo ID to vote, including African Americans.

The left insists requiring ID would depress voter turnout. But a 2019 report from the National Bureau of Economic Research completely debunks that claim, showing that ID laws didn’t suppress registration or turnout over a ten-year period.

It’s both rational and right to defend what we value. Just as we protect access to the coronavirus vaccine, we should likewise safeguard the precious right so many have died to secure for us: our vote.
