    Episode Notes

"Fasten your seatbelts and join us for an enthralling episode on airplane cybersecurity, as our hosts Marco and Sean dive into a captivating conversation with expert Ken Munro."

Welcome to another exciting episode of ITSPMagazine Coverage of RSA Conference USA 2023, in San Francisco. Your hosts, Marco Ciappelli and Sean Martin, dive deep into an intriguing conversation with Ken Munro, a cybersecurity expert who shares a fascinating COVID story that led to some groundbreaking research on airplane cybersecurity. This episode is one you won't want to miss, and we encourage you to think about the conversation, share it, and subscribe to the podcast. If you happen to be at RSA Conference 2023 in San Francisco, be sure to visit the Aerospace Village!

When COVID-19 hit, the aviation industry experienced an unexpected outcome: an abundance of airplanes were retired earlier than anticipated. This led Ken and his team to explore airplane cybersecurity by accessing these grounded planes and learning about their systems. He shares his insights on the various networks found on airplanes and how these components interact with each other.

Our hosts dive into the burning question: can you hack an airplane from the passenger cabin? Ken assures us that it's not possible, as safety systems are carefully segregated from passenger entertainment systems. However, he does acknowledge that hacking could be possible in specific scenarios that require physical access to the plane's inner workings.

Ken's unique perspective as both a cybersecurity expert and a light aircraft pilot brings an engaging angle to this conversation. He emphasizes the importance of having pilots on board, as they have a vested interest in landing the plane safely. The thought of autonomous planes raises concerns, as pilots provide that crucial human element in critical situations.

So buckle up and join Marco, Sean, and Ken as they take you on an informative journey exploring the world of airplane cybersecurity. This episode will leave you thinking about the intricate systems that keep us safe while traveling through the skies. Don't forget to share this captivating conversation with others and subscribe to the podcast for more exciting episodes! First Day Blunders and Embarrassing Personal Items

Flying prawn tails across the First-Class cabin, spilling red wine over a high value customer and 300 economy class meals ruined just after take-off. These are just some of the first day blunders revealed in today's episode.

Plus - there are all sorts of reasons that a piece of checked luggage might be offloaded before departure... and a vibrating bag though? Indeed - so if it wasn't a toothbrush going off inside, what was it that caused our baggage handler to turn bright red with embarrassment?

    Seatbelts and Uniforms

    Seatbelts and Uniforms

We get into cars pretty much every day and put our seatbelts on without even thinking, but why when travelling by air do we act like it's more of a hinderance to wear one?

And Uniforms - not everyone is the same age, height or body structure, but airline uniforms need to be comfortable, durable and most importantly represent an airline's brand. Wearing a uniform takes out the stress of what to wear but what happens when airline crew have a uniform malfunction right at the start of their shift?

What does it take to land that prestigious job as an International Flight Attendant for a leading airline? Mayday Millie tells us what we can expect from selection, interview process to the 8-weeks of intensive training to finally get on the roster.

We also discuss the perks of Staff Travel benefits - flying Business Class (sometimes First Class) all over the world on your vacation, for a fraction of the cost! How does it all work and how cheap is it really? Simon and Mayday share their own experiences of when it didn't all go to plan.

    Surviving Economy Class and Sleep

    Surviving Economy Class and Sleep

Is economy class really as bad we think?

Are we becoming image snobs at the mere thought of entering the Y-class cabin, or are we simply happy to accept our seat at the back of the bus in return for the cost saving... allowing us to spend more cash on the ground at our destination?

And how do you deal with sleep on a long-haul?

Find out how the crew deal with passengers who snore so loud that holding a conversation at the opposite end of the cabin is near impossible.

Cabin Bags, Doughnuts and Plane Food

Cabin Bags, Doughnuts and Plane Food

Whether you're going away for a few days or a few months, the decision on what to pack and how much to pack in your cabin bag can quite a stressful part of your flying regime.

Why is it that so many of us still break the rules particularly when it comes to size, weight and the number of items we're permitted to take on board with us? Is it the thrill of getting away with something naughty? Or, simply for our own selfishness that we choose to ignore the rules?

Are you a plane food fanatic or do you dread the moment you lift that foil cover to reveal what’s hiding underneath? We discuss aircraft meals and how they've become an integral part of an airline's desire to compete for your loyalty.

Mayday Millie and Simon Bennett are watching everything that goes on in the air… as well as that little bit that happens on the side.

Next week...Sleep and our guide to surviving Economy Class.

    Your Shout Or Mine?

    Your Shout Or Mine?

We kick off this series with a drink…

You know how good that first drink always tastes when you're buckled in to your allocated seat... and it really doesn't matter whether you're on a business trip or about to start or finish your vacation, it still tastes great doesn't it?

But then there are those of us who just take that "free bar" at 38,000 feet just a little bit too far. I hope that wasn't you on one of our recent flights, you're lukcy we couldn't remember your name today! You must have had a terrible headache after landing.

We also talk celebrities in this episode. Who have we had the pleasure of bumping into on our flights over the years? More recently for us, it's been Lionel Richie and Michael Bublé and we'll tell you all about those two encounters right here.

You mark our words; we’re watching everything that goes on in the air… as well as that little bit that happens on the side.
