    Website Hosting Issues

[spp-timestamp time="1:48"] Dave has been with Hostgator.com forever (you can get 25% off using the coupon code " podcastcoach " ). He loves their support, but lately it seems like he is having more and more issues. He is thinking of moving the School of Podcasting to WPEngine.com before he does jim and Dave talk about some optional website hosting companies like Maplegrove Partners.

[spp-timestamp time="4:13"] Clammr Dicusssion with Daniel J Lewis.

Daniel is enjoying sharing other content, consuming other content (without subscribing to the show), as well as sharing his own content. Daniel is from the Audacity to Podcast

What do you think of doing a show that would be super short like 20 seconds long. A short podcast makes you get to the point.

[spp-timestamp time="10:45"] Is there a difference between a www.askthepodcastcoach.com and just askthepodcastcoach.com (looks like a caching issue - and it was).

The Simple Podcast Press plugin now allows you to jump to a certain point in your show.

Dave, Jim and Daniel talk about working with smaller companies.

[spp-timestamp time="17:40"] Do something nice for someone else

Dave contributed to Kathy Kelly's book about Autism. Kathy successfully raised Nine thousand dollars towards to publishing of her book.

    Small Company Discussion (Continued)

[spp-timestamp time="20:10"] The Simple Podcast Press plugin now allows you to jump to a certain point in your show.

It will also make a list of your past show (coming in the future) and you can also change the color of the player.

Workign with smaller companies that can pivot and change quickly unlike a bigger company that has to go through a committee.

Podbean Update - Now Available with a Redirect

[spp-timestamp time="25:45"] Dave is confused by their front page, and it turns out they do have a way to redirect your show podcast RSS feed. They do have support (I had to use them once when my downloads stopped working for no reason).

Podcasts.com kind of dodged the question to a yes/no question.

Podcasts.com came on the scene recently so I sent them:

    1. How do you make money (business plan).

A: Some of the podcasts have ads on their searchable directory index page on Podcasts.com page. Those ads pay for the costs.

    2. Do you change my mp3 file name?

    3. Do you change my mp3 ID# tags?

    4. Do you change the bit rate of my show (stereo/mono/bit rate)

A: 2 – 4 – Those are all part of our management portal.

These are yes no questions, and when you don’t answer them I assume the worst.

    5. Do you supply an RSS redirect in the event I don’t want to use your service.

A: We do not at this time.

    6. Is there a way to show my rss feed from my website (that I use to manage my show) instead of the RSS feed from podcasts.com

A: You could create a redirect URL on your site which you can give out and have it just redirect to ours.

Notice the tech support person is trying to get me to redirect my traffic to their website. (Or its a person who doesn’t understand podcasting, or they don’t want to display anything from your website).

In speaking with Daniel J Lewis of the Audacity to Podcast, he had stated that he had some email exchanges and they seemed open to putting a link back to your website.

Take it for what it’s worth. I see it as a platform for secondary distribution.

[spp-timestamp time="33:45 "]Podclear and Soundcloud are now out of Beta

Podclear is a way to record skype calls, and Soundcloud has been rumored to be losing money and looking for schedule D funding.

The worst case scenario in the past was Podango which was a media hosting company that gave their customers a week to leave.

[spp-timestamp time="38:29"] Mixlr free year for Jim ran out.

Their interface is a bit confusing at time.

Michael Ray Has Questions About Owning Your RSS Feed

[spp-timestamp time="41:17 "] Dave uses Libsyn's feed for his show. When his website had an issue, his show came out as it always does because Libsyn was fine (and his audience is subscribed to his RSS feed on Libsyn). The Ask the Podcast Coach using PowerPress (and the built in RSS Feed). You need to control your feed. Here is a video help explain why.

Dave recommend Backup Creator to backup your website/wordpress.

[spp-timestamp time="50:18"] ADHD Think Tank Menu Questions

Menus are used the create the navigation for your site. You should have at a minimum a Contact Page, and the About Page. From there its up to you. You can use the cryptx plugin to cut down on people spamming your podcast.

You can look at other websites to use as ideas on how you can create your menus.

Next Week Will Be the First Ever Dave-less Show

Dave will be out next week, but Jim is going to get the keys and Drive.

[spp-timestamp time="1:00:21 "]Recording On the Road

Kathy wants to know record on the road.

You can use the Voice Memo app and upload it to Dropbox.

There are other tools like Bossjock Studio, and Rode LE on your phone.

    Podcast Distribution Resources 4-25-15

    Podcast Distribution Resources 4-25-15
[2:45]What did you learn from New Media Expo?

People need to make sure what they say their podcast is about – is accurate. We come up with a great title, but it has nothing to do with the episode.

Dave is ready to see people blow up the podcast bluebprint, and do something original.

Podcasting For Free forced Dave to get out of his comfort zone.

Make the beginning of your show great to get people sucked in.

Its going to be interesting to see if people start growing their audience through podcast spots.

[11:52]Clammr Guys on Home Gadget Geeks

[11:52]Jim will have the guys from Clammr on Home Gadget Geeks

    [16:37] Cross Platform Knowledge

Jim explains how we should know how people consume your content. This means knowing phones, tablets, etc.

    Fire tablets are really cheap.

Fire HD 7, 7″ HD Display, Wi-Fi, 8 GB – Includes Special Offers, Black

[20:00] RSS Feeds are Not For Humans

Think of your RSS feed as the paper in a player piano. Its gibberish until you put it into the piano. Likewise your RSS feed is just noise until you put it into software (like iTunes) to decode it.

Cast Feed Validator is a great service to use to see if your RSS feed is valid

    23:35 Podcasts.com Free Hosting

    Podcasts.com a Good Idea?

[23:35]This is to a good choice for a primary solution, but as a secondary point of distribution it may be valuable.

[25:30] How Should Politicians Use Podcasting?

Dave feels politicians can use “behind the scenes” and explain why they are the better candidate (instead of ripping on the other candidate).

[35:22] What Directories Should I Be Listed In?

I recommend iTunes, Stitcher, and Tunein. From there go to www.podcast411.com and use the directory of directories.

When you go to list yourself in directories have your artwork URL, your description and everything you will be asked in a document and copy and paste to speed up this process.

iTunes watches your RSS feed, and your RSS feed is updated by your posts.

[49:00] Why Do People Love SoundCloud?

[49:00]Different companies have embraced SoundCloud and they appear successful because of associations. They are technically not as cool as they were years ago, and they still need to make money.

Jim uses different services for different strategies. Some players look better in different places. If you have multiple websites you visit, organize the websites into a folder (as bookmarks) then you can right click on the folder and open all the websites in the folder with different tabs.

    [58:45] Subscribe on Android

[58:45] This is a great initiative from the folks at Blubrry to help make subscribing on an Android platform easier. The idea is you can make a button and if the person has the right app it wil subscribe. If they don’t have the app, they will be prompted to download one of the approved apps. Check it out at on www.subscribeonandroid.com

    [1:04:00]Dave’s on Facebook!

He made a Facebook for podcast people (and he has a separate one for Family only). Be his friend at www.facebook.com/schoolofpodcasting

    Building Your Brand with Podcasting

    Building Your Brand with Podcasting
It’s time to jump on the podcasting bandwagon, people.

    Or is it?
There are more than 200,000 English speaking podcasts today and over a billion subscriptions to podcasting on iTunes alone. Add to the hundreds of millions of people walking around with smartphones -all podcast-enabled- and you have yourself a pretty big reason to join the podcasting trend. As a business owner, you'd be a fool NOT TO.

The evolution of small business marketing and the onslaught of podcasting as a medium allows you to reach a far larger audience, but with so many podcasts popping up these days --- let's face it--- the competition has gotten steep.
Instead of creating your own podcast, consider being a valued guest for others.

Why not? They need guests and you need exposure. Being a podcasting guest can potentially generate more subscribers and sales leads, as well as improve upon your own message and brand.
While this is a terrific way to take advantage of someone else's dime and platform, you must be sure that you are bringing something of value to the table, or you will be rejected by the podcast community.
Be of service to the podcasting community.

You MUST prove to be in alignment with the podcaster's mission. Don't just blindly submit yourself with ego. No one owes you an appearance on their show especially if they think all you want to do is obnoxiously tout your products and plug your website. However, if you can convince them that your appearance is one that will benefit them-- either with valuable industry insight for their audience or with the number of listeners that will follow you to their show-- you will become a trusted podcasting guest and get booked more often.
    Provide value and be remembered.

Overall, this should be your number one focus. It’ll guarantee your brand will grow through your messaging and you'll become a big hit in the podcasting community. Once you establish yourself as a leader in your field (a go-to person, expert or whatever you want to call yourself!), podcasters will start to refer you to one another, and you'll soon find yourself with a packed schedule of public appearances.
Be sure to promote your appearance.

The podcasting hosts will adore you for this one. Every podcaster needs to grow their following and many are strategic in booking guests with a large sphere of influence. Be happily willing to jump in and help out with the promotion of your appearance! Mention your appearance on Facebook and Twitter as well as your blog, website, and subscriber list. This gives you more opportunities to reach out to your audience, as well as the opportunity for them to connect with you as a live caller on the show.
    Be creative.

You need to be memorable, exciting and full of fresh ideas. This will include everything from how you are introduced as a guest on a podcast to your talking points and interview questions. You should have a "Podcast Packet" ready to submit, complete with a headshot, business logo, bio and list of topics you are ready to discuss at a moments notice.

Get Your Studio Setup and Leave it - 2:250

I use asan.com to make a list of projects and when I am at my office I am uber focused.
Be sure to check with your family to make sure you're not neglecting them.

    STOP CHECKING YOUR STATS.

    Why Didn't You Start a Network?-15:27

Mobile Podcast Directories - Can I Verify If I'm Listed?

    Adding People To Hangouts 38:00
You have to send the link to the URL of the hangout window (top of the screen) not the links at the bottom of the hangout. You have to have a G+ to be in a hangout.

    Google Plus Shutting Down 42:00?
One person left the team does not mean it is shutting down.
