Tactical Tuesday #139: "What's The Best Way To Get All The Money In?" High SPR Value Betting in Poker
We've done value betting episodes before, but his one is a bit different. This week we examine the spots where you have thick value on the river, but there's just one problem... the SPR is pretty high and it's difficult to see how you can pile it all in and get called.

So what's the best way to get all the money in and get maximum value when you have nutted hands on the river? Spoiler alert: it's not as easy as dialing it up to "all-in".

Coach Brad is here to see what poker prodigy Jon Chai decided to do in a few of these spots in his recent poker travels. Welcome to Tactical Tuesday 139.

    Tactical Tuesday #138 - The Bet/Fold & Raise/Fold Poker Instruction Manual (YMMV)

    Tactical Tuesday #138 - The Bet/Fold & Raise/Fold Poker Instruction Manual (YMMV)
The pain train is right on schedule this week, as Jon digs... not very deep in the database to find a few hands that illuminate an important topic in poker: how to bet/fold and raise/fold.

It's not a difficult concept to understand... you think you can take down the pot with a bet or a raise, but, if the villain should somehow not fall for our lies and shenanigans, you've got to know the jig is up and not chase good money after bad.

But when exactly are these scenarios, and just because villain doesn't kick rocks like we want them to, does that always mean we're checking or folding to further action?

Jon's pulled up some of his strongest hands (so naturally one of them is 8 high) to walk us through his thought process on this intriguing topic. Welcome to Tactical Tuesday 138. It's free but tips are welcomed. Not sure where the jar is tho.

Tactical Tuesday #136: How To Play For Max Value When Out Of Position In No Limit Texas Holdem

Tactical Tuesday #136: How To Play For Max Value When Out Of Position In No Limit Texas Holdem
Position is everything in Poker, also known by its full, formal name: No Limit Texas Hold Them. But when you're playing the game at a positional disadvantage, it can be hard to extract full value in spots where you have good hands. What hands should you check and trap? What situations call for an overbet to hope to get bluffcaught? These questions and more are explored on Tactical Tuesday 136!

Also -- we've received requests in Greatness Village to upload the full hand breakdown, and that request will be honored immediately, starting... in the coming weeks! This and many more improvements are coming to Tactical Tuesday. Stay tuned for the revamp!

Tactical Tuesday #135: How to Play Multiway Pots vs. Fish in Poker (Rule 1: Don't Call Them Fish)

Tactical Tuesday #135: How to Play Multiway Pots vs. Fish in Poker (Rule 1: Don't Call Them Fish)
Tactical Tuesday is cleaning up its "bad boy" image this week and we're trying to come up with newer, more respectful ways to refer to unstudied, instinctual poker players who are not as good at poker as Jon Chai.

I said "trying" to come up with newer terms, correct? Because while we tried, we failed. They just do so many fishy things! There's no better way to describe it, so we're done trying.

Jon has brought 3 hands this week, and they just so happen to be multiway pots against fish in our favorite game: No Limit Texas Holdem. Join us for Tactical Tuesday 135!

#50 Philosophical Friday: What does prison life teach us about poker?
This week Duncan has the pleasure to have an in depth conversation with our very own Peter Bermingham about his experiences as a correctional officer. What are some facts and misconceptions about prison life and what does it teach us about poker? Tune in until the end for Peter's incredible insight on how to deal with toxic environments and mental issues that could be exacerbated as a result.

#118 Tactical Tuesday: River Raise Redux! Value & Bluff Spots in SIX HANDS from 500 Zoom & 5/10 NL
Jon continues to slave away in the 500 Zoom mines as part of his CPG Wolves R&D, and he's emerged from those murky depths with triple the amount of our normal haul of hands for review. Sometimes he has a pair, sometimes he doesn't. Sometimes he has thick value, sometimes he has garbage air bluffs. Is this... balance?? [butterflymeme.jpg] Let's see if Coach Brad can make any sense of it. Welcome to Tactical Tuesday 118.

#115 Tactical Tuesday: When To Go For Thin Value In Poker... And When Not To (No Limit Texas Holdem)

#115 Tactical Tuesday: When To Go For Thin Value In Poker... And When Not To (No Limit Texas Holdem)
Free poker course details in the description! Jon's back again this week, showing massive dedication calling in from the road with some great teachable spots in thin value betting. But how thin is too thin? As always, Coach Brad brings the sobriety and we reset the clock until next week. Welcome to Tactical Tuesday 115, where we're playing online poker and making friends along the way.

The first poker hand in question is from 1000NL, and Jon is holding Kd Jd in the big blind and decides to defend against the small blind apparently trying to iso a fish limping UTG. Plans change and Jon flops top pair, weak-ish kicker. What do you do when villain puts a whole ass bet into us and the fish? Jon breaks down his thought process behind whether to call and if he should eventually go for thin value with a hand this susceptible.

The next poker hand up for review is another 4-Bet battle of the blinds with our guy Jon holding Pocket Jacks in the small blind. Some people say it's the missed value that haunts you the most when you try to go to sleep at night after a session. Is this gonna' be one of those times? Let's find out!

#114 Tactical Tuesday: No Limit, No Pair, No F's Given. Calling Bets with High Card in Texas Holdem
Check the description below for a free poker course! This week's episode is a masterclass in skepticism, as we join Jon amidst his online poker exploits for a pair of hands in which he's faced with bets across multiple streets but fails to connect with the board. "Bluff catching without a pair" is not for the faint of heart, as we'll soon see.

So what's a young crusher to do when the dealer won't help you out? Call anyway, of course. Let's follow Jon and Coach Brad's thought process as they isolate reasons and rationale for why one might hero call in some circumstances but not others. Welcome to Tactical Tuesday 114.

Our first poker hand up for review is from 1000NL, and features Jon holding Kh Js in the big blind and flat calling a button open from a reg. Jon hits a whole lotta' nothing on the flop, but is this really a board that villain should be betting? Let's eff around and find out.

The next online poker hand up for discussion is a 4-Bet battle of the blinds with our guy Jon holding onto Ace King of spades in the small blind. Again we flop a whole lot of high card and don't improve. How do we proceed out of position?

#113 Tactical Tuesday: How to Play Flush Draws & Turning Pairs into Bluffs (Again) (Online Poker)
For Valentine's Day, we love you so much that we're offering a free poker course in the description below! For this week's poker training, love is in the air, but definitely not the good kind. Welcome to the first episode of Toxic Tuesday, where we've staged an intervention of sorts to make Jon face the hard facts that his love affairs with turning pairs into bluffs and chasing every flush draw with a pulse is causing him to lose money and preventing him from finding true love in this game of poker.

All's fair in love and war, however, and Jon's brought 10 (Yes, TEN) hands from his little black book to try to convince Coach Brad that it's not him, it's ALL OF US who can't see the value in the eight high flush draw with a heart of gold that comes home every night at 4am.

Will Jon see the error of his ways and finally swipe right on a nice pair of Kings that can take care of him? Or will he keep looking for love in all the wrong Aces? Find out in Toxic, err, Tactical Tuesday 113.

#112 Tactical Tuesday: Using Equilab To Calculate Equity in Poker (We Play A5 Suited Aggressive)
For your free poker course, just read the description below! For this week's episode, we revisit good 'ol reliable Equilab to drill down on calculation of hand equity in some all-in spots where Jon calls it all off with hands that obviously don't beat all of villain's range. But can he find enough combos in post-hand review using Equilab to feel good about the calls? Or does Coach Brad help Mr. Chai find some calculation recalibration? See how Join us for episode 112 and find out how to use this valuable tool!

Our first online cash game poker hand brought to us by Jon Chai is from 1000NL, in which Jon finds himself opening with A5s -- one of his favorite "aggro" hands with which he happily and routinely uses to increase his VPIP / adrenaline. While versatile as a starting hand, what happens when you get the river with top pair and a 5 kicker... when villain jams? Watch Jon try to cobble together enough equity to call when Coach Brad whips out the ultimate dreamcrusher: Equilab.

We find ourselves with A5s again in hand number 2, with Jon opening on button and calling a 3-bet from the small blind. We get a favorable flop, but a very unorthodox play from villain leaves Jon scrambling for equity calculation justification before putting it all in yet again. Does villain have enough weak combos to keep their range equity low enough for us to get it in? The numbers never lie when you run them through Equilab. THE EIGHTH COMBO WILL SHOCK YOU.
