ALTBAYS Table Talk 211 – Matthew Hulena (Politics/International Relations)

Born in the serene town of Waipukurau in Hawke's Bay, Matthew's journey is a testament to his unwavering determination to make a difference. From a young age, he embraced the values of compassion, empathy, and community, instilled by his close-knit hometown. However, his ambitions stretched beyond its boundaries.

Choosing to bid farewell to his small-town roots, Matthew set his sights on Auckland, driven by a deep desire to pursue a career in politics and diplomacy. His university years at the University of Auckland saw him double major in politics, international relations, and geography. Matthew actively engaged in grassroots initiatives and sought guidance from senior politicians, nurturing his potential for a brighter future.

The transition from the tranquility of Waipukurau to the bustling energy of Auckland was both exhilarating and challenging. Yet, Matthew embraced this change, immersing himself in the dynamic political landscape. He connected with like-minded individuals committed to making a positive impact on society and sought mentorship from experienced leaders.

As a youthful representative of the nation, Matthew believes in collective responsibility to foster progressive change while preserving humanity's essence and supporting left-leaning principles. He aspires to contribute to New Zealand's betterment, acknowledging past injustices and striving for an inclusive nation that benefits everyone.

ALTBAYS Table Talk invites awesome people to have an honest, laid-back conversation. Our platform focuses on bringing communities together and thrive.

The Power of Music with John Chester

The Power of Music with John Chester

In this episode, I'm back with Season 1 guest John Chester, and again we talk about the power of music and having a positive playlist. Ever wish you could somehow use all that music knowledge you’ve got in your head to somehow help the issues within your head? John believes this is a real possibility. The power of music is well known to those of us who love it and know of its quality to adapt our emotions for good or harm.

Listening to music for entertainment is normal, listening for motivation is productive, listening to enable a bad habit like fear and inactivity is harmful.

Most people don’t know all that music they’ve been listening to over the years is now a type of companion that travels with them to work, home, or vacations. It influences their choices, their hopes, their goals and the people in their social circle.

Check John out using any of the methods listed below.

Innovative Pathways to Crypto Education and Connectivity

Innovative Pathways to Crypto Education and Connectivity

Imagine a world where students are empowered to live in a decentralized world, learning about and participating in the future of cryptocurrencies. In our latest episode, we had an enlightening conversation with the visionary behind Project MAV from MAV 100, an organization dedicated to making this dream a reality.

We delved into the fascinating journey of how MAV discovered Cardano two years ago and became captivated by its potential to create positive change within communities. The discussion also explored their innovative project aimed at helping students gain access to ADA through a stake pool alliance, opening up opportunities for them to learn about decentralized projects and make a difference in the crypto world. One particularly intriguing segment centered around Project MAV 100's use of Cardano to create a student-led telecommunications network, which not only benefits students and their local communities but also encourages partnerships with schools to earn Cardano native assets.

Despite the technical and financial hurdles faced while creating their decentralized telecommunications network, Project MAV 100 has managed to establish a system that increases both local and global access for students. We also discussed how listeners can support their incredible mission by delegating to the MAV 100 pool and contributing to the future of crypto education. Don't miss this inspiring episode that showcases the power of educating and empowering our youth to shape the future of blockchain technology and decentralization.

Tea education for positive change, a chat with my wonderful tea friend Sooz :)
Another very special episode, I have the great pleasure to chat with my tea friend Sooz about her work as Award winning tea educator. I love that Sooz is so passionate about positive change, mental health and creating learning opportunities for people from marginalised groups in our societies. We hear about her work on scholarships for BIPOC practitioners and her views about tea education having the potential to being much more than scholastic learning. Absolutely fascinating, thank you so much Sooz for joining me for this episode. I loved listening to you and found it very stimulating. It made me think of my own tea work too. (PS of course we also chatted wild tea in Vietnam and nibbling on tea leaves :)
