Prisoners of the Ghostland — Episode 72
Hardcore film fanatics probably already know the name Sono Sion from his many works in Japan where he’s been hailed as “one of the most idiosyncratic artists of his generation.”
From films such as “Suicide Club” to “Love Exposure,” Sion had a reputation for grotesque violence, extreme eroticism, surreal images and complex narratives.
In 2018, Sion planned his first overseas production with an English language film that would star Nicolas Cage, who described the project as “the wildest movie I’ve ever made.”
The original script for the film was actually written as a more straight forward action film but Sion had to add his own personal touches, which the director says “added a little bit of weirdness.” The film is set against a dystopian society ruled over by a ruthless Governor who sends Cage’s character out into a nuclear wasteland to retrieve his granddaughter, which is a code name for one of his sex slaves.
In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to check the explosives strapped to our bodies and grab a samurai sword as we review the 2021 sci-fi fever dream known as “Prisoners of the Ghostland”….

Prisoners of the Ghostland, and an interview with a Liam Neeson impostor?
In the newest episode of the AIPT Movies podcast, Alex, Tim, and Matt discuss Nicholas Cage’s post-apocalyptic, Neo-Western/Samurai movie, Prisoners of the Ghostland! If you’ve always wanted to see Cage spend an entire movie in a booby-trapped leather jumpsuit, your wait is finally over.
As always, they also cover movie news and new releases, but this time they seemingly get a visit from Liam Neeson!? I’ll just give it away now: it’s not actually him, but you may be surprised by who it really is! Even more surprising, Matt reveals that he’s involved in a sinister plot!
The AIPT Movies podcast is hosted by Alex Harris, Tim Gardiner, and Matt Paul. You can find Alex on Instagram and Twitter @alexharriscomix. Matt is a terrific artist that you can find on Instagram @no_wheres_ville. Tim can’t be found on social media because he doesn’t exist.
You can find AIPT Movies on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends!

Then we get into The Eyes of Tammy Faye, starring Jessica Chastain, Andrew Garfield, and Jon’s personal, childhood memories (just wait). Nostalgic Revivals
On this episode, we review A Quite Place 2 and Wall of Chefs for this week's Crossing the Streams. For current events, we discuss the misunderstanding between Disney and Shang-Chi star Simu Liu, Ryan Reynolds mentioning that a Free Guy sequel is on the table, and the trailer for the upcoming Nicolas Cage film, Prisoners of the Ghostland. For our main topic, we jump on the bandwagon of taking old IPs and bringing them back as a movie or series. We pitch ideas for Speed 3, Goonies 2, a The Losers tv series, a Roger Rabbit prequel series, a Brendan Fraser Mummy 3 redo, and others.
